私たちは前回もお話しした通り、自転車でね、沖縄本島まで、いりおもて、いりおもてじゃないや。 We took a bicycle from Yonaguni Island to Okinawa Peninsula.
与論島からね、だんだんと回ってきて、沖縄本島まで行って、で、一回帰って、バイクに乗り換えてきたっていう経緯があるんですけど。 We took a bicycle from Yonaguni Island to Okinawa Peninsula and came back to Yoron.

このカウンターカーブでの一番南で、与論から沖縄本島、江戸岬を見て、前回自転車で来たときにね、江戸岬から与論を見てということをやったんでね、沖縄をもっかい眺めてやろうということで、与論にやってまいりました。 We took a bicycle from Yoron to Okinawa Peninsula and came back to Yoron.

与論はね、鹿児島県の最南端なんだけど、沖縄本島からわずか23キロしか離れてない。 Yoron is the southernmost part of Kagoshima Prefecture, but it's only 23 kilometers from Okinawa Peninsula.

なんでここが鹿児島県なの?っていう不思議な島だね。 Why is this a mysterious island in Kagoshima Prefecture?

まあ、そうですね。 Well, yes.
実際、戦後、まだ沖縄がアメリカ統治下だった頃は、ここが日本最南端だったこともあります。 After the war, when Okinawa was still under US rule, this was the southernmost part of Japan.

名前もかわいい、ヨロン島ですが。 The name is also cute, Yoron Island.

結構、中に入ってみると、意外と結構でかいなっていう、でかさを感じる島だった。 When I went inside, it was a pretty big island.

こんなちっちゃい島なんだけど、なんと5000人も人口がいるっていう。 It's such a small island, but there are 5,000 people.

よく、中学生終わったら、高校から外に出ちゃうから、もう若い子は帰ってこないんだよっていうのがみんなあり。 It happens a lot. After middle school students graduate, they go out of high school, so young people don't come back anymore.

高校までは一応、4人でいられると。 There are 4 people in high school.
なんか、原付バイクのさ、高校生のナンバープレートすごかったね、あれね。 The number plate of the原付バイクの高校生 was amazing.

ゲストハウスでの体験

今回はフェリーに乗って、鹿児島から、鹿児島新港から、ヨーロンの港まで、 We took the ferry from Kagoshima to the port of Yoron, Kagoshima,
マリックスラインっていうのと、マルウェーフェリーっていうのと、2つね、船が就航しているんだけど、交互にね、1日ずつ出ている感じで。 and we took the ferry from Maruie to Marix Line.

マリックスのクイーンコーラルプラスっていう、ちょっと、マリックスの2隻のうちでは古い方の船ですね。 Marix Line's Queen Coral Plus is one of the oldest ferries in Marix Line.

古い方なんだけど、その代わりお風呂があったりして。 It's an old ferry, but there was a bath instead.

そうね、こっちは台浴場がついてて、新しい方の船は個室の代わりにシャワーしかないっていう感じですね。 Yes, there was a bath here, and the new ferry only had a shower instead of a private room.

で、えーとね、夕方の6時出航して、翌日のお昼の1時、40分だっけ。 We left at 6 p.m. and arrived at 1 p.m. the next day.

ちょっと遅れて、50分過ぎくらいに着きましたね。 We arrived a little late, about 50 minutes late.

なので、1日半くらいか、船の中でいるような感じだったね。 So we were on the ferry for about a day and a half.

おかげさまで、私は熱が出たりとか前日して、体調不良だったので、ゆっくりと過ごさせてもらって、かなり回復をさせてもらいました。 Thanks to that, I had a fever the day before and was not feeling well, so I was able to relax and recover a lot.
ちょっと調子悪いときに、かわいそうだったけど。 Yeah, when you were not feeling well.
お天気もよかったしさ、頑張って行ってよかったなって感じだった。 The weather was nice, so I was glad to go.

両岸に着いたら、すごい快晴で、ここまで久しぶりに南国感を感じましたね。 We arrived at Ryodan, and it was a sunny day, and I felt like I was in the South Pole after a long time.

私たちが行ったのが、ゲストハウスを予約してたんですよ。 We booked a guest house.
ずっともそうっていう、名前がさ、まずさ。 It's been like that for a long time.
名前がちょっとね、うーんって思ったけど。 I thought the name was a little weird.
でもなんか楽しそうだなーって思って、やっぱちっちゃい島に行くからにはさ、なんか旅人同士で交流できるところがいいなーって思って。 I thought it would be fun to go to a small island, and I thought it would be nice to be able to interact with travelers.
あえてゲストハウスに泊まったんですけど、かなり楽しかったです。 I dared to stay at a guest house, but it was a lot of fun.

オーナーさんがね、二人の共同経営者でやってくるような感じで、二人ども私たちの同級生だったね。 The owner was a co-owner, and they were both our classmates.

マルさんの料理と宿泊体験

同級生と同じ誕生日だったんですよ。 It was the same birthday as my classmate.

そう、後で判明したんですよ。今日?昨日?昨日判明したんですけど。 Yeah, I found out later. Today? Yesterday? I found out yesterday.
同級生だと知ってたんですけど。同級生?同級生か。同い年だねっていうので盛り上がったんですよ。 I didn't know that we were the same age. I didn't know that we were the same age.
そしたらね、後日インスタの投稿に35歳になりましたって言うのを、総理に上げてるんだって。 Then I posted on Instagram that I turned 35. I told the Prime Minister,
今日ですか?つって、僕も35歳ですよ。つったら、マジで?って言うので、先ほど盛り上がっておりました。 I asked him, today? I'm also 35. And he said, really? And we were excited.

で、もう一人のね、経営者さんのマルさんという方は私と同級生だった。 The other one, Maru, the manager, was my classmate.

が、宿をやろうっていう話になって、立ち上げた宿なんだよね。 We decided to open a hotel.

そう、チリでしょって。チリじゃねえのかよって思うんですけど。ラーメン屋ホテルにくださいよ。無限に出てきて。 Yeah, it's not just a ramen shop.

いや、その人でも一番はラーメン。ラーメンが好きで、食べ歩き。特にラーメン専用アカウント持ってったら。 Yeah, he loved ramen. He had a ramen account.
ラーメンアカウント見せてもらったけど。すごい。 He showed me his ramen account. It was amazing.
レビュー。なんか、ラーメンのレビューするお仕事というか、依頼が。レビューの依頼が来ている。それくらいの人です。 He was the kind of person who would ask for a review of ramen.

すごいね。ずっともそう、止まったら。ドミトリーとあと個室とあって、私たちは個室に泊まらせてもらったんだけど、チェックインしたときにご飯どうしますかって聞かれるんだよね。 When we stayed there, there was a dormitory and a private room, and we stayed in the private room, but when we checked in, we were asked what to do with the food.

で、毎晩マルさんが手作りでご飯を作ってくれるんだけど、1500円でね、みんなで夕飯食べましょうみたいな感じになるんだけど、ご飯がめっちゃうまい。 So, every night, Mr. Maru would make dinner for us, and it was 1,500 yen, and we would say, let's have dinner together. The food was so good.
だから最初、料理人だったんですかって聞いたら、いや、これが趣味ですっておっしゃられてたんだけど、趣味でこのレベルってすごいですねって思ったら、もう一個の趣味が食べやる気なので、美味しいお店いっぱい知ってるから、やっぱり料理は納得のクオリティーだった。 The first time I asked if he was a cook, he said, no, this is my hobby. 美味しいし、地の物いっぱい使ってくれて、食べる前にどれがよろの地の物ですよって教えてくれるんで、食べて美味しいしって嬉しい。 It was good to eat, and I was happy.
特に外食の予定ね、入れてこなかった方はぜひご飯をみなさんで囲って食べるとより楽しいんでね。 If you didn't have a plan to eat out, it would be more fun to eat with your friends.
国際的な交流とアニメ文化

日本白が今回国際食豊かで、半分以上外国の方。 There was a lot of international food this time, so more than half of the people were foreigners.

フランスからの方が3人くらい。 And 3 people from France.

ドイツの方が1人。 And 1 person from Germany.

日本人が僕らともう1人って感じですね。 And 1 more Japanese.

ヘルパーさんがいたから、ヘルパーさんと私たち入れて日本人がって感じですね。 There was a helper, so we joined and became Japanese.

なかなか楽しかったよね。日本語と英語と両方でみんなで会話して。 It was a lot of fun. We could speak both Japanese and English.

でも海外から来られた方はみんな日本語できて、びっくりした。 I was surprised that everyone who came from abroad could speak Japanese.
何で日本語学ぶんですかって言ったら、アニメ。アニメオンリー。 I asked them why they were learning Japanese, and they said it was for anime.

マジで日本学校とか行ってないって言ってた。 I was like, really? I didn't go to a Japanese school.
ひさぽん
アニメ見たけど、ナルト大好き、ワンピース大好き。 I saw an anime, but I loved Naruto and One Piece.
二人とも一致したら十字回線だったの。 I was in the Jujutsu Kaisen with them.
誰でも十字回線最高だって言ってて。 I was like, Jujutsu Kaisen is the best.
俺、十字回線見てないって言って。 I was like, I haven't seen Jujutsu Kaisen.
読んでないって言ったら、鬼滅の刃なら分かるって言ったら、 I was like, I haven't read it. If it was Demon Slayer, I would know.

日本を好きで来てくれるから、やっぱりリサーチがすごい。 They came to Japan because they love Japan, so they did a lot of research.
予習具合がすごいですね、やっぱり。 They were very well prepared.

そんなね、みんなでお話ししながらご飯食べて、ワイワイして楽しくて。 We had a great time talking and eating together.

2日でもね、深夜までね。 We talked until midnight.
ご飯食べ終わった後にさ、あれなんだよ、世論憲法っていうのが。 After we finished eating, there was a thing called the Yoron Kenpo.
世論に謙譲するの剣に、縦祀るの法ですね。 The Yoron Kenpo is a ritual to worship a sword.

っていう文化が世論等に代々伝わっているものがあって。 There is a culture that has been passed down to the Yoron.

250年前からある儀式だそうですね。 It's a ritual that's been around for 250 years.
お客さんが来た時とか、初めての人が来た時とか、お客さんが来た時にやるって言ってました。 When a guest comes, or when a new person comes, they do it.

縦祀りは多分神様にお酒を謙譲するとかそういう形なのかな。 I guess the Yoron Kenpo is a form of worshipping a god.
なんだけど、うちら宮古島に行ってそんな話を聞いたじゃん。 We went to Miyakojima and heard about it.

実際に体験はしなかったけど、ゲストハウス泊まった時にさ。 We didn't actually experience it, but when we stayed at a guest house,

そう。親がいて、親がグループ全員に一杯ずつお酒を注いで、回し飲みをしていく。 Yes. There was a parent, and the parent would pour a glass of sake for each group.
で、最後に親がまたお酒を一杯。 And at the end, the parent would pour another glass of sake.

飲む前にみんな挨拶、一言二言、二、三分スピーチというかね、お話をして、飲み干して、親に杯を返して、また親がそれを継いで、次の人に渡してっていうのを繰り返してくる。 They would say hello to each other, say a few words, and finish the conversation.

で、それ、例のお通りっていう文化が宮古島にあって、で、その宮古島のゲストハウスの人いわく、さすがにやべえからちょっとお通り禁止な、みたいなところも結構最近増えてると思う。 Yes, there are a lot of places in Miyakojima that prohibit people from going out.

うんうん、お店ではダメだよ、とかね、いうのがあったりして、ちょっとあんまりいい、まあね、文化だから、否定はしないけど、あんまりいい伸び方ではないので、公の場ではやめましょうみたいなところも最近増えてるよっていうお話を聞いたんです。 Yes, there are a lot of places that prohibit people from going out. ゲストハウスでの交流

で、しかも世論の方はそれをもう復活させよう、みたいな。 And the public opinion is trying to revive it.

一番のスーベニアだっつって。携帯の裏にさ、貼ってね、喜んでて。 He was the best Slovenian. He was happy to put it on the back of his cell phone.

その人たちと世論憲法をやってきたんですよね。 He was doing the law of public opinion with them.
島の人もね、相手が日本語を話せないフランス人だろうが、何だろうが、もう容赦なく世論憲法を浴びせるっていう。 The people on the island, whether they were French or not, were shamelessly abusing the law of public opinion.

一生日みんなで開けたみたいなこと言ってなかった? They didn't have a day off?

一生日にかけ散らしたら、4人で、5人で終わらし合ってて。 They broke up on the first day.
日本も行ってたって言ってたもんね。 They went to Japan.
焼酎よ。黒糖焼酎。 Black sugar shochu.
このゲストハウスでもやるんですけど、ほんとにちょびっとだけ。 This guest house also does it, but only a little bit.
お酒ダメな人は飲まなくていいし、ちゃんと一周で終わる。 People who don't like alcohol don't have to drink.
自己紹介タイムのことを世論憲法って呼んで、みんなで一杯ずつ飲みながら、クイッとやりながら、自己紹介をするっていう時間を世論憲法ってずっともそうでは呼んでます。 We call it the self-introduction time, and we drink a cup each and introduce ourselves.

でもあれだよね、ゲストハウスって言ってもさ、結構オーナーさんが不在のところとかさ、今どきあるけど、本当にオーナーさんたちがご飯を作って、みんなに振る舞って、皆に話題をまんべんなく振ってくれるような形だから、みんながみんなのことを知れるし、仲良くなれるような。 Even if it's a guest house, there are quite a few owners who are not here, but the owners make the food and serve it to everyone, and spread the word to everyone.
みんながみんなのことを知れるし、仲良くなれるような。 So it's a place where everyone can get to know each other and get along with each other.

ずっともになる宿でしたね、あそこまで。ここまでだけだったらもったいないよね。 It's a place where you can stay for a long time. It would be a waste if it was just a place to stay.
若い経営者さん2人が頑張って、いろいろサウナを立ち上げてみたりとか、キッチンカーを立ち上げてみたりとか、いろいろチャレンジして。 The two young managers do their best to build a sauna or a kitchen car. They do a lot of things.
宿泊体験と新たな挑戦
かなえ
そう、でもそれも全部買い付けてきたところは手作りでやってらっしゃるので、すごいバイタリティーにあふれてて、いい宿でした。 It was a good inn.
でさ、笑っちゃったのがさ、ゲストハウスが満室のときは今まで庭にテント張って寝てたんですよ。 I was laughing because when the guest house was full, I was sleeping in a tent on the rock.

どういうこと?って聞いたら、ゲストハウスに自分たちが寝る場所がないらしいんですよね。 So I asked what was going on. I heard that there was no place for us to sleep in the guest house.
空いてたら、満室じゃなければ客室で寝てたそうなんですけど、満室の場合は僕ら居場所がないから庭にテント張って寝てましたとか言って。 If it wasn't a full house, we would sleep in the guest room. But in the case of a full house, we didn't have a place to sleep, so we slept in a tent in the garden.

すごいよね。だから地元のおじいちゃんとかにさ、よく頑張ってんなって評価してくれるとかって言ってたよね。 I thought it was amazing. So I told my local grandfather that he was doing a great job.

昨日も満室だったのかいって言って。通り上がりに庭にテントがあるとね、満室だって言うのがわかるんですよ。 I asked if it was a full house yesterday, and I could see that it was a full house if there was a tent in the garden.
で、今ちょっと新しいことを始めようとしててね、そっちの方で建物がもう一軒手に入ったらしいので、ついにちょうど僕らが泊まりに行った日から、満室でも僕らも屋根の下で寝れる場所ができましたって。 Then, we were about to start something new, and we got another building over there, so from the day we moved in, we finally had a place to sleep under the roof.
ちょっと喜び半分、寂しさ半分ぐらいのことを言ってましたね。 I was saying about half joy and half loneliness.

ヨロン一番の高台で西側が開けてる場所なので、ここはゲストハウスのヘルパーさんがね、お勧めしてくれて。 The Yoron Castle was the highest point and the west side was open, so the guest house and helper recommended it to us.

ヨロンはね、いろいろね、ヨロンを見て、一周もしたりしたんですけど、やっぱりビッチで自分が来れるのはオーガネック海岸だし、今日僕が良かったのはサダンクロスターバンセンターか、銀ペンだったし、っていうのでね、いろいろ見てたらなんかね、なんか標識が立ってたんですよね、ヨロンに。 And when I saw Yoron, I thought, what is this?
あとある海岸に看板が一つ立ってたんですよね、アマミトレイルっていう看板が立って、なんだこれと思って、よく読んでみたら、アマミ群島全部にトレイル、ロングトレイルのルートがついてるんですよ。 Yoron has a long trail route all over the Amami Islands.
ヨロンもそのルートの中に入ってるって、なんだこれと思って調べたら、そういうのがあるらしいんです。 Yoron is also in that route. I was like, what is this? And when I looked it up, there was something like that.
これは歩き止めてこないと、っていうので、今角度を見つつ、トレイルがどこについてるんだろうっていうのをちょっと調べつつ、旅をしてます。 I have to walk to find out where the trail is, so I'm looking at the angle now, and I'm looking at where the trail is.
