ベネディクト改革の背景
おはようございます。英語の歴史の研究者、ヘログ英語史ブログの管理者、英語のなぜに答える初めての英語史の著者、
そして、6月18日に研究者から刊行された英語語源ハンドブックの著者の堀田隆一です。
加えて、10月15日に夏目社より新刊書が出ました。同僚の井上一平さんとお届けしているYouTubeチャンネル

本日は先日開催されましたヘルアの某年会より収録したある回をお届けしたいと思います。
某アンドケイブル古典的英語史の名著ということでですね、こちら精読を進めてまいりました。
今のところですね、第62節まで完了したところなんですね。 ほぼすべてですね、このヘルディオにアーカイブが残っておりますので、まだお聞きでない方はですね、
できましたら第一節からお聞きいただいて、そしてさらにできましたら一緒に某アンドケイブルを読んでいきませんかというお誘いの意味を込めてですね、
このテキストを入手していただければと思います。 今回は第63節の冒頭部分ですね、最初の8分をじっくりと精読しています。
比較的短時間の割には8分というのは、この超精読シリーズとしてはですね、 ペース早い方なんですね。
今回8分ほど進みました。 話題はですね、10世紀末のイングランドにおけるベネディクト改革、
The Benedictine Reformというものですね。 9世紀までにですね、バイキングの信仰によってイングランドはボロボロになっていたわけですね。
そしてキリスト教の信仰もまたボロボロとなっていたところ、10世紀後半にですね、この改革がなされることになるんですが、今日読むところはこの説のまだ冒頭ということでですね、
このいかにボロボロ状態だったかということですね。 この後に改革がやってくるっていう、そんな流れをですね、描写しているところになります。
今回も定居科学大学の金田拓さん、 拓さんに進行をお願いしまして、またリモートの収録だったんですけれども、他にヘルメイトさんも立ち会っていただきました。

はい、それではですね、ちょっと堀田先生が登場するまでの間、今日はちょうど年末の楽しい回ということで、楽しい回といえばやっぱり精読はやらなければということで、期待されているところに応える形で、堀田先生が来られるまでの間の楽しみということでね、ちょっと先に味見をしてみようかということで、今日もArchitecture of the English Language の精読回を試みたいと思います。

司会は拓と申します。いつも堀田先生と最近こちらのArchitecture of the English Language を精読しておりますが、今日先生が来るまでの間、私がちょっとメインとして精読をリードしたいと思います。
というわけで63ですが、The Benedictine Reform ということで、ベネディクト修道会の宗教改革、まあ宗教改革では違うものになった、改革ですね、Reform ということで、ここまでの流れですが、イングランドがキリスト教化して、キリスト教化に伴いラテン語からの影響を小英語時代の英語が受けてきた。
また、62説なんかは、こちらボキャブラリーに対しての影響ということで扱ってまいりましたが、63説はBenedictine Reform ということで、ボキャブラリーの話からまた一点物語的な話になるのかなというようなところですね。こちら少し見てみようかなと思います。
