🌏 For our international listeners:
Welcome to The STEM Guys’ Life Board Meeting.
This episode features the first appearance of a guest: Daikon-san, a friend of both hosts, joining the year-end in-person session.
Daikon-san ran a half marathon this year — trained from April, competed in September, finished. The change he noticed wasn’t his race time. It was that the 4 PM energy slump, a daily fixture for years, had quietly disappeared. Physical training showing up as desk performance. That’s what fitness actually means.
The conversation drifts to evening resets. Everyone agrees the ideal is: exercise, long bath, YouTube, sleep. The reality is: shower, collapse. Each person has a workaround.
Daikon-san meditates by thinking at the “edge of his brain” — keeping the center empty. Kurage floods his mind with unrelated thoughts from every context of his life until causality breaks down and sleep follows. Tomato focuses on breathing until awareness dissolves into nothing. He admits this lasts about seven seconds.
The episode’s real conclusion: reset is not the same as restart. Daily, weekly, monthly, yearly — build in windows to step back and look at what you’re doing. Not to erase it. To reconnect it. Continuity is still there. You’re just giving yourself permission to see it clearly.
When “continuing” is still a goal, something is off. When it becomes invisible — just the texture of how you live — that’s when it’s actually working.
Year-end soba is the annual reset for the entire country. It’ll have to do.
