せーの What's up amazing people, this is YASASA RADIO by Akane and Minami. In this
radio we are going to talk about random topics in Okinawan Japanese and
English. はいたーい グスーよちゅーがなびら、イヤササレディオのアカネとミナミやイビーン。

A research team from the University of the Ryukyus has revealed that the ancestors of people from
Okinawa Island and the Miyako Islands belong to the same group known as Ryukyu Jomon people.
The study analyzed the genomes of 25 individuals each from Okinawa Island and the Miyako Islands
showing similar genetic backgrounds and a mix of mainland Japanese and Ryukyu Jomon
genomes after the 12th to 16th centuries Gusuku period. The team believes that expanding the
analysis to other areas like Yaeyama Islands and Amami Islands could further elucidate the detailed
history and connection of Ryukyu Islands from the genetics perspective.
But for me like it's farther my it's not from my memory.
It's like researching. It doesn't feel like the family thing.
I don't know that is right.
How do your family trying to like make the map?
It's like hearing who is your ancestor and matching together.
I mean we have we understand our family tree like from
to me to grand grandparents, right? It's easy from these people right now.
Because we remember everyone.
Then we make that like small version of family tree first.
It started from our the biggest tomb.
It's like the main family tree of Munchu Baka.
It's a common family tree.
My grandfather and grandmother died last year and two years ago.
So it came out a lot.
So we did it again. Like please check it.
So it's stored somewhere?
No, we made it ourselves.
So who is in this tomb?
Yes, everyone in Munchu Baka.
It's also written in Butsudan.
Every time we make Butsudan, we leave it as a record.
So at some point, we print the picture.
We put it in the museum.
These five volumes are still in my grandfather's house.
I think the one before that is also written.
I see.
But it's impossible to remember.
Even if I look at it all the time, I don't know what it means.
So your family is in Okinawa and Brazil?
Because my grandpa's brother went to Brazil after World War II.
And they have family in there now.
Third generation Okinawan in there.
So they want to know about it more than me.
That's right.
They have much more database than them.
Because they are more mixed together.
And I think the more application the people apply, then the more data they have.
But Japanese people don't do it.
Because most of Japanese people are not Konketsu, right?
I mean, compared to the different countries.
But I think also people in the States, America is not their home.
They immigrate.
Yeah, immigrate from European and Native American.
Who are already there, mixed.
And in your country, they have German, British, French.
There are a lot of people there.
My friends in America, who is white, he told me his parents or his ancestors are mixed
with other countries like Poland and other cold countries.
So they know few of the relationship with ancestors.
They try to research who is who.
So when I heard that, I was like, I thought you are American people, but your DNA is
different country.
And then it's normal thing.
It was the first time I knew how it is in the States.
States is unique.
There is no American genes.
So they are from everywhere.
Native American people and other people have different face too, like features.
Native American or Indian, I don't know.
They look similar to Okinawan or Asian people.
And Hawaiian.
Yeah.
Like light, dark skin.
Yeah.
I can see that.
They have sharp eyes and clear bones.
They have black hair.
Okinawan people are tall and have sharp faces.
Their hair is thin.
They look Okinawan, but less hair.
Yeah, and lighter.
Before we recorded this, we tried to research about why Okinawan people are short.
Before we recorded this, we tried to research about why Okinawan people are short and hairy.
People in mainland Japan are taller.
Also in Korea, Chinese people have long legs.
They have different features.
We found out that people who live in warmer countries don't need to be tall.
Because of the muscles.
If people live in cold countries, they need to have more muscles to protect their body.
To warm it up.
If you are in warmer countries, they don't need to be taller with big muscles.
Because it's already warm.
But hair makes sense because we want to protect from the sun.
Yeah.
It makes sense to Okinawan people and Hawaiian people.
They are not really tall.
And Spanish people in Spain.
Yeah.
They are shorter than other European countries.
Yeah.
But it doesn't make sense for Africans.
They are so tall.
And have muscles.
But without hair.
They have hair, but they are not hairy, right?
Like Okinawan people.
Because they are already dark.
I don't know.
From my personal experience.
I've met black people.
Dark people.
Like Spanish people in Okinawa.
Like American military.
They are like on arm.
In the back.
It's less hairy than Okinawan.
They look cool.
Yeah.
They have dark skin.
But they don't have arm hair.
They look beautiful.
I think they are the strongest human beings in the world.
They are the ancestors.
For us.
For everybody.
Right?
And we can't start talking about who were the first.
It's gonna be a god.
Or Adam and Eve.
Or Inazuma.
It says Ryukyukoku.
Some people change to Ryukyukoku suddenly.
We start saying Ryukyukoku.
It's kind of wrong.
How to call it?
Ryukyukoku is short period.
We really don't know.
We don't know how it starts.
It's vague.
It's more mysterious.
People want to say many things.
It's probably like this or that.
Or not this.
Okinawa seems more special.
Sometimes.
It doesn't sound like conspiracy theory.
It's just history.
But it's so much mystery.
Yeah.
Till now.
Shurijo is burned many times.
And we lost many information.
Because of the war too.
That's why it's kind of hard to
find
the real story
of Okinawa.
That's why
we didn't know
our roots.
It's all mixed together.
And it's complicated.
I think people in our generation
are not really into where we came from.
They don't really care about it.
I think it's influenced by
the lack of
storytelling.
Like you said, lack of information.
Like documents also.
But it's lack of
Japanese entertainment industry.
It doesn't make that kind
of storytelling TV show.
Like taiga drama.
That's popular.
Other than that,
we don't make
fun dramas based on history.
And we don't have budget.
I always think like
TV show from the states,
it's so much bigger scale.
And I wanna know
like their history.
You know what I mean?
It's entertaining.
Recently,
if we can make a great drama,
we don't care about the history.
But in Japan,
teaching history is so boring.
We're interested in like...
Maybe just for us.
Oh, I don't know.
Maybe
to speak out
even if your
grammar is wrong
So when
it's gonna be Japanese people
can speak English?
Never
More immigrants
come
No, immigrant people here
are so fluent in Japanese
But
I don't know
Maybe in the future
if your boss
In many companies
have
the boss only speak English
and we need to learn
Like
when the time comes
to become a major
you can't live
If you can't live
in that situation
you can't speak
But if you can't live
in that situation
it's really bad
It's the worst version
I think so
So it's better to speak
But
it's possible that it's not English
Chinese?
It doesn't matter
Chinese or Spanish
are big
To be able to speak
like a second language
is a plus
no matter what language is that
But
Hong Kong people
they are fluent in English
because the England people came to Hong Kong
right?
And they have good English education
in a country
and they even have English name
for everybody
What if the American government did that to us?
We're gonna be
fluent
But we're not
But the English education
in China
made Chinese people
speak English
But for us
American created education
with Japanese government
didn't succeed to Japanese people
to speak English
It's so rare to see people
speaking good English here
Unless they have some background
or they have some money
Okinawan people are an exception
Like all my American friends here
impressed by
Okinawan people
can't speak such a good English
than mainland Japanese
So I think it's a compliment
But
if there are so many bases
we can make more use of them
and make everyone bilingual
But there are many people
who can't speak Japanese
