Welcome to Kevin's English Room Podcast.
Hello.
Hello.
Alright.
This one?
Uh-huh.
Okay.
Catch up.
Yeah.
Hit me up.
Yeah.
I don't think there's a 法則
of when up is used.
It's just if that exists or not.
I see.
I tried to look for like 法則 before,
but I don't think there are any.
Okay.
Catch up.
What did you say?
Hit me up.
Hit me up.
Look up.
Look up.
Hook up.
Hook up.
Okay.
Fuck up.
Yeah.
There's a lot of them,
and I don't think I could find any.
Okay.
Yeah.
You don't say drink up, do you say?
Yeah, I think you could say drink up.
Drink up.
Drink up.
Maybe, yeah.
But I can understand the meaning.
Drink up.
Drink up.
Yeah.
Button up your shirt.
But not all of the verbs,
they can put,
they can tie it up with...
No, like run up.
Run up?
No.
No.
You don't say?
No.
Walk up.
Walk up.
まあでも I walked up to みたいなね。
Don't walk up to me みたいなね。
I can't find a 法則.
Okay, okay.
But...
I see, I see.
Do you have like certain visual...
Like up?
Like...
So like, drink up.
Ah, up.
But I...
But...
There's so many...
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Yeah, yeah.
So...
Yeah.
By the way, the word catch up...
I've been using this in Japanese as well.
Okay.
Catch up.
Yeah, but...
Is that not used in Japan?
One of my friend was like...
It's a weird thing to say, Kevin.
I was texting, right?
I was like,
Hey, um...
In Japanese...
In Japanese, yeah.
Um...
With Japanese friends?
Yeah, with Japanese friends.
Let's go out to eat.
「Let's catch up.」の意味
Let's catch up.
Is that not...
True, we don't say that.
Oh, you don't say that?
Yeah.
Oh, really?
What do you...
What's... wait.
What does it mean to Japanese people?
So...
If you know English,
you can understand what you're saying.
But...
So, first of all, it's not that major in Japan.
Okay, I see.
Katakana, catch up.
And then, catch up in Katakana means it's like you...
For example, like you...
It's like oitsuku.
It's like you're behind from certain...
Average thing or whatever, like certain thing.
I see.
And then you have to...
You have to catch up.
For example, like you...
Let's say you got kaze.
And then you missed two jugyos.
And then I have to...
I see.
All those situations.
It implies you're in a negative.
Yeah.
You have to...
It's like you have to...
So, if I say, hey, let's catch up.
Let's catch up.
So, it's like, for what?
For what?
True.
Like, are we gonna study?
What are you thinking about doing?
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
To where, kind of.
To what?
I see.
I see.
That's why.
Yeah.
Okay.
The friend wasn't...
Well, I mean, that friend told me.
That's a weird thing to say, man.
Well, like, I've been using this...
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
For, like, many different, like, occasions.
And there was this weird laugh.
Okay.
In the text.
What's the laugh about?
I see.
They're laughing that you're being given
and using, like, some kind of
little strange English word that we don't use usually.
And they thought maybe I was doing it on purpose.
You know?
Maybe?
Maybe?
Or not, maybe.
But they know who you are.
But, yeah.
So, they're okay with it, I guess.
Right.
They're probably gonna be like,
Oh, he's probably, like...
Yeah, he's doing that again.
Yeah.
Probably, like, from, like, that.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Okay.
Yeah, in business...
Business...
English.
It's business English.
Business...
Katakana.
Okay.
So, it's a heavily...
Yeah.
Business...
Katakana.
I think.
Yeah.
Some people use it for, like, at school.
Okay.
Somewhere.
But it's not that very, very common.
Okay.
I see.
Okay.
Okay.
Got it.
You use it for how...
I use it as, like, hey.
We haven't...
I'm not caught up with your latest shit.
So, we need to talk.
Yeah.
And let's get together and update our situation.
Because I want to know what's up with your life.
And that's catching up.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
I say that all the time.
Hey, let's catch up.
Catch up.
Sure.
Shit.
Okay.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Okay.
Yeah.
All right.
Thanks for listening, guys.
Thanks, James.
Bye-bye.
Bye.
