「Made of」と「Made from」の違い

英語の質問コーナーがなくなって少し寂しく感じているリスナーを代表して質問をします。
「Made of」と「Made from」の違いはどう理解すればいいでしょうか?
これは英語を学んだ全日本人がわかったようでよくわからない代表的な質問です。
学校の日本の学校の先生は大抵次のように説明します。
それが材料ならば「Made of」原料なら「Made from」
でもそれって人によって理解の幅が違いますよね。
例えば私は仕事でお団子を売っているのですが、
外国人の方にどう説明すればいいか毎回迷います。
外国の方の多くは団子が何からできているか知りません。
団子は原料としては米、材料としては米粉からできているので、
日本の学校の先生の説明に従えば
が正しいと思うのですが、
このfromとofが入れ替わったらネイティブの方はどんな印象を受けるのでしょうか。
実際に使い分けを正確にできるのでしょうか。
もしかしたらどっちでもいいんじゃねというふうに思っていませんか。

In casual conversations, I'm not going to catch any difference
when somebody says made from and made of.
But if I were to really squeeze out the difference,
what I thought was it could be something like
when you say made of,
it feels like you're made just with...
Let's say you say made of wood.
You just made it only from wood.

And then you say made from wood,
you could add something else to it.

Something like that.
Let's say this is made of sugar.
It's 100% sugar.
If somebody says this is made from sugar,
maybe it's like 80% sugar, 20% starch.
I don't know, something like that.
Like a matter of 100% pure of it or not.
It's the difference I may be feeling.
