私は高校3年生の受験生です。
最近共通テストのリスニング練習をしているのですが、
その中で非母国語話者の人が時々出てきます。
あまりにもひどいカタコト英語の時があり、気が散ります。
英語を聞けるようになるためのリスニングなのになぁと思うのですが、
流暢な英語でない人の音源が試験に取り入れられることについてお二人はどう思いますか?
気になったのでメッセージを送ってみました。
当日カタコト英語が出てきても満点取れるように頑張ります。

アクセントの多様性
I didn't know that they would do that.
I remember when I did the TOEIC test,
or at least a few years ago we did a TOEIC collaboration.
And in those questions I remember they have some excellent English.
Maybe British, maybe Indian.
That's what only I know about those things.
As far as I remember, when I was around high school and I had to take the TOEIC and everything,
it was all American accent.
And then a few years, like two or three years after that, it was British and I was kind of surprised.
I was like, oh wow, they do different accents now.
And then when we did the TOEIC, the Kikaku Doga,
and I was so surprised that they had the Indian accent now.
It was just so global.
And now, maybe the Japanese accent they're talking about?
Yeah, I don't know.
The amount of accent.
Maybe that's the Indian accent.
I don't know.
I'm not trying to diss the Indian accent.
The Japanese have a hard time understanding the Indian accent, right?
It's very difficult for us, but yeah.
Maybe.
Or maybe Japanese.
If it was Japanese accent,
I mean, if it was Japanese then it would be easier for them to listen to, no?
Yeah, it's easy, but Kigachiru, I kind of understand.
It's like, oh, oh, kind of, you know.
Yeah, they're going more and more like Jitsuyoteki now, right?
Because in the real world, maybe you go out and do business,
you're not going to have all perfect English speakers, right?
It's going to be mixed of accents and everything and different levels of English.

Yeah, but I kind of understand what she's saying about,
what she's complaining about.
If somebody's speaking too much Katakoto,
that's like as a test.
Well, accents are very good, I think.
You know, variations, but because it's the test.

Fluency should be high.

And with many accents.

It contradicts with what the current English education system is built for.
It's right now mainly American accent, right?
All the English pronunciation is done in American accent

This is a question for a younger generation,
but do you think they have different accents now?

I don't know about your classes, but at least my age,
I had like American English and British English was introduced.

But maybe right now they have many more maybe.
