Alright guys, welcome back to another episode of Kevin's English Room Podcast!
Echo right there.
Yes.
Yep.
Pretty little echo in Italian restaurants.
Yes, yes, yes.
I'm feeling more comfortable now.
Okay, thank you.
I'm used to it.
Okay.
Yeah, I'm used to it.
Okay, so here's another question from Mei-san.
Alright.
Thank you.
Thank you, Mei-san.
Oh, sorry, my smartphone is dying.
Oh, your phone is dying.
I can still read.
So, when is the moment when you feel 幸せやな?
Wow, that is a great question.
That is such a great question.
My life is all about happiness.
Oh, that is my life topic.
Okay.
To be 幸せ.
That is like the main...
Okay, I've said enough.
So...
So, do you have any...
Can I read the question again?
Is your phone dead now?
Yes.
Yes, it is dead.
So, you can use my phone.
人生で幸せやなと思う時はどんな時?
So, it's in Kansai dialect.
Right.
幸せやなと
Right.
幸せやなと
感情の瞬間はどんな時?
Hmm...
So, I'm interpreting this as like the little 幸せ.
Like everyday little 幸せ.
Right, not something like the goal of life.
Right, right.
You'd say...
So, there is a lot.
Okay, well, tell me about that.
It really depends.
It's up to the mindset, you know.
It gets down to your mindset.
Okay.
So, when I'm riding train, right?
When I'm in the train, right?
If you listen to like some 爽やか music.
And just look outside the window, I would feel 幸せ.
Right, right.
I don't know, it's the atmosphere.
Me, living in Japan, like every time I think about life,
I would be like, "Hey, I was in America, United States."
Me, I wanted to go to Japan.
And look at me now, I'm living in Japan.
I'm doing my own job.
I'm living healthy in Japan.
Doing things that I want to.
Going anywhere I want to.
How happy is that, man?
Like I'm living in Tokyo, Kanagawa.
That is some badass kind of happiness.
Right.
It's pretty happy.
Right.
But like, yeah.
So, let's talk about the small things in life.
Right.
I would have to say like...
Every time you feel that, you would feel 幸せ.
I do, I do.
Whenever I wrap my head around the fact that I'm in Japan,
That could be when you're on the train,
When you're at the supermarket maybe.
03:00
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
If it's like little things, it would be like ice cream.
Like eating ice cream makes me happy.
Is that differently?
Like, the tasteless thing you are?
What do you mean?
Like, it's not something that you feel, "Oh, it's Japan."
No, no, no, no.
Not幸せ in the sense of me being in Japan.
Right, right.
The sugar intake is what matters.
The sweetness and the sugar intake is what makes me happy.
Okay, so when you're taking sugar, you feel幸せ.
Right, when I'm taking sugar, yes.
And when I meet with old friends.
Old friends.
Yes.
Okay.
I'm not specifically old, but like just everyday friends.
College, your friends.
High school, your friends.
We get together and maybe drink and talk about the back days.
Kind of doggy that.
That's great.
幸せ.
Right.
When I provide someone with value, that's pretty幸せ.
So what I'm doing in the Kevin's English Room is pretty fulfilling to me.
Okay.
Like, people that are, that says thank you to me, people say thank you.
Because of your content, I'm now more interested in the English language and the culture and everything.
People DM me with those kind of messages and I look at them and I smile.
I really love the emotion that is spiraled off from the content that I put out.
So that's a happy point.
Right.
That's a good story.
That is a good story, isn't it?
Right.
Yeah.
What else?
It would be, when I see my father having fun.
That's pretty幸せ, right?
Right?
I'm a pretty cute boy.
Yeah.
I'm a sweetheart.
Sweetheart.
Yeah, I'm a sweetheart.
That's true.
So when you see your father having fun, you feel, I am very happy.
Yes.
You like your father?
I do.
I really do.
Well, you love your father too, right?
Right.
Yeah, you have lots of respect for your father.
I know that.
Right, right, right.
My father, so my mother passed away when I was a high schooler.
And a few years after that, he started dating a different woman.
Oh, really?
Right.
And I met her, we went to Las Vegas together.
Me, my father, and my father's new girlfriend.
Really?
My father was having fun.
I was so happy.
I see my father acting like a fucking college student.
Having fun with her, which is making me really happy.
He's living the life that he wants to.
And that's so much, that's great.
06:00
Yeah, that must be fun.
That is, yeah.
I felt it.
Right.
Yeah.
He was like in Vegas making jokes to her.
I was looking at it from afar.
And get this, he put me in a room separate from him.
Okay.
So me and my girlfriend, my father's like, "Oh, me and my girlfriend's gonna live here."
"Oh, Kevin, I got you a room for myself."
Right, it was a tiny room.
Yeah, a tiny room.
But it was a Las Vegas hotel, so I was ready.
Right.
Even if it was tiny, it was like unbelievable.
Yeah.
I stayed there for so long.
I stayed there.
Oh, really?
I did.
And they must have stayed at a suite room or something.
Probably.
You probably can't.
But I was happy for them, you know?
Right, right.
Oh, that's a good story again.
That's a good story, right?
Really?
Yeah.
Okay.
Yeah.
Right.
So basically, you're a happy man.
Yeah, I do, I do.
I think a lot about the happiness culture, I do.
Just maybe too much.
I think about this way too much.
Like, am I happy?
Am I doing this?
Is this making me happy?
Is the choice that I'm going to take will make me happy or not?
That is like the one and only factor that I go by when I make new decisions in my life.
And I made lots of new decisions.
Right.
Like, I first came to Japan, right?
That was a great big decision.
Huge one.
I moved to, I changed jobs twice.
Right.
And the third job was self-employment job.
So that was pretty high risk, you know, as culture would interpret it as.
Right.
Right.
And yeah.
Right.
Lots of difficult choices was all predicated on if it was me being in a happier situation or not.
So, yes.
That's about it.
Right.
That's kind of how I interpret happiness.
Am I happy enough?
Yes, I am.
Right.
Like, and I feel like I can be even more happier.
I think that's a really interesting topic.
Right.
Because I do feel happy, but I feel like I can be happier.
Right.
And I, you can fix all the many things.
Right.
That's like this little part of me that says the fact that you're craving for more happiness is making you unhappy.
Oh, that's like, yeah, that's what have you been talking about.
Like the fact that I'm not completely fulfilled right now is the problem.
Right.
I'm happy in general, but like, I feel like I can go even higher.
Right.
Like at the same time, I feel like that's an endless goal.
That's an endless loop of finding higher happiness.
It's just like money, right?
How people are into golden handcuffs, right?
You know what I'm talking about?
09:00
Like people who crave for money, who crave for fame, who crave for popularity.
When they get that level, it gets even more extreme.
They want more, right?
Right.
And I feel like am I in the same route of that, but the happiness version?
Right.
Right.
So that's a question for me.
Okay.
Okay.
It was very obvious for me that being in the rat race of money, more money, was not the
right track for me to be happy.
But like, am I now in the same zone just with the X factor being happiness?
Okay.
Yeah, I thought so.
So how about you, man?
Oh, you know, I'll be more than happy if I could have a cup of coffee when I finish
my karasumi and urino pasta.
Okay.
You want some coffee, right?
Yeah.
Yeah.
Well, thank you, my friend.
I'll be more than happy when my friend buy me a cup of coffee.
I don't think you're gonna be happy, man.
Not today.
I don't think so.
All right, that's 10 minutes maybe.
Yes.
But I want to hear your hot take on happiness.
Okay.
I'm really interested because I admire you for how you look at happiness.
Oh, really?
I admire level.
Okay, thank you.
Well, like, okay, I would more than happy when people who I respect are respecting me.
Like you said, like I respect you and you said, like, I respect me, you respect me,
then I'll be happy.
I'm flattered.
Well, not flattered, but okay.
Okay.
Right.
And also, well, basically, I completely agree with you.
Like, but I think the difference is between me and you is I feel happy when I learning
something.
Like when I learn something new, I will be happy.
So I read new books, like I listen new theory.
Yes.
Like I, you know, practice my guitar, piano, singing.
I'll be happy.
I don't have that.
So that's a difference.
Right.
We've been talking about that topic, right?
Yes, yes, yes.
Yeah, maybe that's the differences.
But yeah, but I respect you, mate.
You respect me?
Right.
Oh, have you?
Um, you met Naruchan, right?
Before?
Yes.
His house and did barbecues, right?
Yes, I did.
And I didn't, I don't know if you, if you guys talked about the, uh, my self-analysis.
No, you didn't?
No.
Okay.
Um, okay.
Then forget about that.
Okay.
Okay.
Maybe later in the episode, maybe.
Maybe.
Yeah.
12:00
Okay.
Okay.
Okay.
Alright.
Alright.
So, what, I think we gotta, we gotta go.
What?
Okay, nevermind.
Bye bye guys, thanks for listening.
