連綿と続き、刷新するたびシリーズ化してきたゴジラですが、ここのところ国内映画においては単発です。そんなわけでいよいよ、シン・ゴジラ、そしてゴジラマイナスワンです。

ゴジラマイナスワンを語るためにスタートしたこのゴジラマラソン、最終エピソードは大ヒットしたシンゴジラとマイゴジの抱き合わせ回だったわけですが……盛り上がりすぎてシン・ゴジラのみの回になっちゃいました。

てなわけで今回は、改めて国内においてゴジラ旋風を巻き起こした2016年版「#シン・ゴジラ」を語りました。

Hey, I’m Mako — your movie podcast host who literally skipped recording last week due to being dead in bed. (I'm back.)

Oma joins me again for Episode 8, which is also Part 5 of our ongoing Godzilla Roundtable.

Yeah… it just keeps going. And honestly? We’re still not done.

Godzilla has evolved with the times, spinning off into era after era — Showa, Heisei, Millennium. But in recent Japanese cinema, the King of the Monsters has been more of a one-shot legend than a long-running series.

And that brings us to the two most recent titans:
Shin Godzilla (2016) and Godzilla Minus One (2023).

This whole Godzilla marathon was supposed to lead up to Minus One.
But, well… this final episode kind of exploded into an all-Shin Godzilla deep dive. We got carried away.

So in this episode, we focus entirely on Hideaki Anno’s 2016 film, Shin Godzilla — the one that reignited the kaiju flame in Japan.

Godzilla returned to the silver screen — but what was that thing?
