Welcome to Kevin's English Room Podcast.
Hello.
Hello.
Okay.

Not a good message?
Weird one?
Not weird, but...
Yeah, no.
Okay, this one.

You're welcome.
Well, yeah.
Okay.
You're welcome.
Yeah.
I feel like that's like the easiest topic you can approach.
Because you're Japanese, you know.
You probably know more than that guy, so.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
True.
Yeah.
That's nice.
Yeah.
What do you, how do you deal with conversations of like,
if like a non-Japanese comes up to you,
you tell them they're Japanese, that you're Japanese.
They're like, oh you're Japanese, that's so cool.
I love anime.
Yeah.
And you don't consume as much anime as the people who say they love anime, right?
Yeah.
Me too.
Yeah.
That's always a kind of a hard conversation for me.
I get it.
How do you deal with that?
I don't have any like perfect solution for that.
I just, I just say, try hard, as hard as I can to utilize my knowledge.
Yeah.
Do you say you're not into anime?
Yeah.
Do you tell them?
Yeah.
Like at first?
Yeah.
I'm not that into that.
The anime realm?
The world.
So I'm not that, you know, professional, but I try to speak.
Or like, at least I know, for example, like One Piece.
I love One Piece.
Yeah, you love One Piece.
Yeah.
So I try to put the conversation into One Piece.
Ah, I see.
I read One Piece and, you know, that's the only thing I can do, honestly.
But that's a hard one because many people love animes.
When I went to France, every time I introduced myself, I'm from Japan.
And they were like, anime manga lovers come to me, came to me.
And they're like, oh, you're from Japan?
And I know this, this, this, and this.
But most of those I didn't know about anything.
And I was like, oh.
I mean, they are, you know.
They were kind.
Kind enough to come to me and try to be friends with me.
But I couldn't do anything.
Yeah.
I couldn't, you know, give back anything to that kind of person.
And I was so sad.
Right, it's a shame to let that go to waste.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
That opportunity.
Yeah.
Every time I said, oh, I don't know that anime.
And they'll go, oh.
You don't know the anime?
Yeah.
And they looked so sad.
Oh.
And they're like, I'm so, I'm so sorry.
Oh.
Yeah, that was a sad moment.
Yeah.
The saddest moment.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I get it.
I get it.
Or like, Japanese idols.
Yeah.
You know.
Sure.
Yeah.
Like the seiyuu signs and all that stuff.
Yeah.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Yeah.
So.
But yeah.
Were there anybody that were into like, Ghiblis?
Yeah.
Oh.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Did you carry out a conversation with Ghibli?
Well, yes.
I mean, not, I don't cover whole Ghibli world, but I know some, you know.
But you know the classics.
Yeah.
Like Totoro.
Yes, yes, yes.
Sentou Chihiro.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So one tactic.
Yeah.
Tactical.
Tactic, yeah.
Is like, pull into the places you are.
Familiar with.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Like, Sentou Chihiro, or like.
Yeah.
In my case, One Piece.
Yeah.
Or, you know, those.
Uh-huh, uh-huh.
Yeah, I guess that's.
Absolutely.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah, but I get it.
Yeah.
How do you do that?
I, well.
It's kind of, I don't, I just, yeah, I just straight up tell them.
Yeah.
You know, I'm not that into those anime realms, so I don't know that much about it.
But they're good, right?
They're good.
They're good, no?
I try to let them talk about what's so good about the anime.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Yeah.
I try hard to keep the conversation going.
Yeah.
Yeah.
There was a, when we were just abroad just a week ago.
Yeah.
You know, we went to the shop, the shop near the university.
Oh, yes, yes.
I bought a chocolate.
Oh, yeah.
You know what I'm talking about.
Yeah.
That shop, that little shop.
There was another customer.
Yeah.
They were, it was a Korean couple.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
And they were at the cashier, right?
Talking to the employee there, the cashier.
And that woman was like, you're from Korea?
Man, I love Korea, guys.
Man, Squid Game, I love Squid Game.
Oh, you guys don't watch Squid Game?
Oh, you don't watch Squid Game?
Oh, all right.
Well, that's okay.
That's okay.
But I know another drama, right?
I know this.
Y'all must know this.
Y'all gotta know this.
And they were like, oh, no, we don't watch any of those dramas.
She was like, oh, y'all don't watch any of those?
All right.
The exact same thing was happening.
Right.
True, true, true.
I felt them.
I felt, I was like, ugh.
It's like, ugh.
Right.
Hurtful.
And I also heard the conversation was like, that store was like specific for one, one,
you know.
Yes.
One sakuhin, right?
One sakuhin, right?
Yeah.
And the store clerk went like, oh, this is a famous character, and this is the, you know
this?
And the couple went like, oh, no, I don't, I don't know that.
That was funny.
That was funny.
Y'all came to the store that's specifically designed for that, that story, that, that
fairy tale.
Right.
And y'all don't know the story.
The store clerk went like, oh, have you not any, like, read or seen any movies or books?
And I'm like, no.
No.
We have not.
No.
And then they're buying something.
Yeah.
They're actually buying something from that store.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
It's like, it's like going to the Pokemon store, right, in Japan, right?
And they're like, I don't know what Pikachu is.
What was that?
Can you tell me?
This one.
But I want to buy this Pokemon ball.
Ball.
Yeah.
That was funny.
Yeah.
That was funny.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Every time they come to Japanese and want to have a conversation about those manimes,
mangas, they're so excited.
Yeah.
They're so, you know, looks happy.
They're passionate about their hobbies.
Yeah.
And kind at the same time.
Yeah.
Right.
It's a missed opportunity.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Thanks for listening, guys.
Thank you.
Bye.
