Welcome to Kevin's English Room Podcast. Hello. Hello.
So, what were we talking about? Oh, Singapore. Yeah. Yeah. We're talking about foods. Foods.
Yeah. How it was good. So, overall, do you recommend visiting Singapore? I recommend
visiting Singapore. Yeah, it's a great country. Yes. Yes. I feel like there are many places that
I've never been to before. Like, even like close countries, like East Asian countries.
中国への興味
Anything in your mind that you want to go to? So, I've never been to China, actually. The
mainland China. Oh, okay. So, that's interesting. Yeah. Yeah. Must be one of the closest countries.
Yeah. And we hear a lot and many times, and we see many Chinese people coming to Japan.
But I've never actually been in like being in the culture of the country. So,
must be interesting. It's very close, but I mean, it's half really similar to Japan,
but half it's really different from Japan. So, yeah. I have a friend. He's a banker. Yeah. He's
in, he was in China. He used to be in China. Yeah. Now he's in a different country. Okay. Oh,
yeah. He was like, you go to China. Yeah. I think it was Shanghai. Did I say it was Shanghai? I
think so. Yeah. So, and he loves it there. Oh, he loves there? He was like, yes, he loves it there.
Because at first, he didn't like that country. Like, there are like park without anything and
some benches. And then that was the only place that the people go. Yeah. He did say that. Yeah.
But I guess he's busy. He's very busy. Even in the weekends, he has to go golfing. So, I guess
if you're like busy, it's okay. Okay. He said the people, like he said he loved the people.
Oh, that's the reason why he loves that country? He loves the fact that people just don't give a
fuck about you. Just treats you like a fucking, like doesn't treat you with respect. That's what
he said he doesn't love. That's what he said he loves about it. Okay. I don't know, but he said
中国文化の理解
he loved it. It was hard for me to understand. Yeah. But he was like, it's the rudeness.
When you go to a restaurant, you're not treated like a customer.
You are treated like you're just some random object taking up the space in the property.
And he loves that? And he said that's what makes things, that's what makes it easy for him to,
he doesn't have to care, worry about anything. He just has to care about himself.
Yeah. And that's very easy is what he said. I see. Yes. Okay. I didn't understand it,
but I'm just, that's what he said. Wow. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. It's okay. I see.
I see. Do you think it's kind of, kind of similar to the United States a little bit? Like the
rudeness from the customer? Yeah. I mean, if only I knew what China looked like, right? I'd never
been there as well. Okay. So I don't know, but maybe, I don't know. Yeah. But I'm, you know,
if you, there are people in Japan, right? Yeah. I'm sorry. There are Chinese in Japan that are
tourists. Yeah. And we sometimes feel the China, right? Yeah. And looking at that, I don't think
it's that similar. I see. I think it's a different type of like, you know, I think it's a different
type. Yeah. That's what I feel. I see. You know? Yeah. I feel like, you know, so let's say for
example, Americans, it's just, when it comes to like, people, they're very like, caring. Okay.
Very caring. Let's say you're in the elevator, someone comes, they'll definitely open the door
for you. True. They'll definitely say thank you if you open the door, if somebody opens the door
for you. Yeah. That's culture. Yeah. Right. True. Yeah. I'm just saying that, right? That's all I'm
saying, but. Yeah. You'd love to try that. Like, we wouldn't know that, like, the actual. Yeah.
You know, vibe and culture and everything. But he did say that if you actually get to know them,
they're very nice. Yeah. That's what he said. Like, the people are very caring.
中国文化の習得
Like, the people that matters to you, they care about you a lot. Right. I've heard of it before.
Like, if you, once you get inside the circle, then you've been trusted. You're a family. Crazy.
Yeah. Yeah. That's culture. That's culture. Yeah. Culture. Yeah. Does he speak Chinese or?
Yes, now. Now he speaks Chinese? Yeah. I mean, back then, he had zero Chinese, right? Okay.
But now he's, like, fully fluent. Wow. He's, like, rock on Chinese. That's great. Yeah.
That's great. I, the boys went to China together. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And then he was like,
I got this. He was ordering in Chinese. Wow. Yeah. He was, yeah. He's now, he can speak Chinese now.
Oh, great. Yeah. Great. Great. Yeah. I see. So once you are able to, like, speak,
once you became, like, fluent in Chinese and kind of know the culture and, like,
if you get inside the, you know, the people. Yeah. I guess it's very comfortable. I see. Yeah.
It's very comfortable. I want to know that. You know. But, you know, the interesting part was that,
you know, when, so after he has become accustomed to the Chinese culture, when we got together,
right? And we were eating at a Japanese restaurant. Okay. In Japan? In Japan. Right.
He came back to Japan for some, I don't know, but. Yeah. He was Chinese.
He was Chinese. Wow. He was, these little, I don't know, these little details. Okay. Okay. Okay.
How he would talk to the employees. Okay. How he would leave to, how he would leave the table.
Wow. He was Chinese. When these little interactions, right? Like, you accidentally
bump into somebody in the streets. Yeah. You, I don't know. I don't know. You'd say,
you tried to take the same product at the same time with another stranger. Yeah. And you're like,
oh, I'm sorry. Like, oh, go ahead. You know, those moments, right? These little, these small moments.
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. He was Chinese. I'm not saying how, but it's just, it did feel like he changed.
中国の文化と都市
He was not how he was when he was in Japan. I see. Yeah. I see.
I mean, that's a good thing. Yeah. That's a good thing. Like you, you get inside fully, like,
right. Get inside the country and became a part of the country. That's, that's a great thing.
Yeah. Yeah. I see. And he loves it. That's great. And he loves it. So, yeah. Where is he now? Like,
he's in Jakarta. Okay. Yeah. I see. Yeah. I see. Okay. Yeah. I see.
Been to Jakarta before? No. No? Not yet. Yeah. Me neither. Yeah. Yeah. But I want to know that.
The actual, it's close, but far country, but it's far, you know, so. He also did say that
the urban areas, the cultures are very different from the rural side. Oh, I see. Yeah. He was in
the city side. He was on the very, very urban side. Yeah. One of the most centric. Yeah. The buildings.
The business street. Yeah. I see.
Right. So interesting. Yeah. That's the country that I, now I want to go and see.
Thanks for listening, guys. Thank you. Bye-bye. Thank you.
