But what if, somewhere along the way, we became better at teaching children than at discovering them?
For generations, millions of children have moved through broadly standardized classrooms, schedules, curricula and examinations despite being profoundly different from one another.
This episode asks an uncomfortable question:
How much human potential did we never discover?
Not because teachers didn't care. Not because schools achieved nothing. Quite the opposite. Mass education was one of civilization's greatest achievements. But a system created to educate millions efficiently may not be the system humanity needs forever.
And then came AI.
Suddenly, machines could explain, translate, tutor, generate, simulate and assist with increasingly sophisticated forms of intellectual work. The meaning of knowledge began to change. So did the meaning of skill, employment and perhaps the purpose of education itself.
What happens when education stops being primarily about putting knowledge into everyone's head—and starts becoming about discovering what is already possible inside each person?
Perhaps the greatest waste was never the knowledge we forgot.
Perhaps it was the human potential we never discovered.
