Welcome to Kevin's English Room Podcast.
Hello.
So, this one.
Thank you.
It's a difficult question to understand.
Easy to understand for them.
You know Trump can't understand Indian accent?
Really?
Yeah.
So there was this video that went viral, right?
Some reporter or something asked a question to Trump.
In a press conference?
In a press conference, yeah.
And he was Indian, right?
And Trump, in the middle of the question, goes,
I can't understand your accent.
Can you...
I don't...
Wow.
Can you...
Next question.
Wow.
Next question.
And then like the next video, next moment, he's like...
Now he has a translator to translate the Indian accent.
Wow.
But the translator, if you listen really carefully,
you can actually hear from the microphone of Trump, right?
Yeah.
He's speaking in Indian accent as well,
but like a little bit lighter version.
That's weird.
I don't get him.
I don't get what he's doing.
I don't get it.
Yeah.
It's strange.
But I guess it's...
I don't know if he has any special feeling
or special thought about those accents,
but in general, it's kind of difficult for you
to understand some different accent,
like Indian accent or like British accents.
For me?
Yeah, in general.
Yeah, I mean, yeah.
More thicker the accent, the more difficult it is to understand.
In general.
I guess that goes for all language, I think.
Yeah, of course.
Let's see.
True, true, true.
So in this question, in this message,
I guess he's saying...
So like what?
Like Japanese accent?
Yeah.
I don't...
I've never seen anybody go for that style, though.
Me too.
That's what I was thinking.
Really? That's what you were thinking?
That's what I was thinking.
Oh, OK.
But sometimes it's...
You're not...
I don't think you're doing it right.
Sometimes it's...
Yeah, it's difficult for me to do that.
Yeah.
Like, but do you think it's one of the ways
to be a better English speaker?
Hmm.
I don't know.
I don't know if that's a good idea or not.
Do you think it's easier for American people
to understand if I speak like this?
I don't think so.
Because...
OK.
Because in general,
Japanese accent is considered to be
very difficult to understand.
Right, right.
That is why I don't think that
going for the Japanese accent is a good idea.
I agree with that opinion.
Thank you.
Oh, yeah.
I think Japanese accent is one of the thicker accents.
OK.
True.
Yeah.
If the Japanese accent guy asked the question to Trump,
I would...
I think he would be like,
I can't understand you.
Next person.
He will hire a translator.
I think he would try to hire a translator.
Yeah, I see.
So we have to...
Like for Japanese,
it's kind of really, really easy
to understand Japanese accented English.
If I speak like this,
every Japanese can understand.
It's easier than American accent or British accent.
But you have to think
this Japanese accent English
is one of the thickest accents
for the native speakers.
Right, right.
I mean, like what you said,
I hear this from Kake-chan as well.
He's like, when somebody speaks in a Japanese accent,
he says that it's so easy for him to understand.
That's one of the things that I do not get at all.
It's one of the harder ones.
It's one of the harder ones.
Right, right.
I see, I see.
So at least you shouldn't go for
like this Japanese accented English.
I think if you're going to practice,
spend your time,
might as well spend it on, you know,
if you were to choose Japanese accent or American accent,
I guess go for the American accent
because that's, yeah.
Outside of, right, outside of Japan.
Right, right.
It's much more easier for people to understand.
True.
Yeah.
But I feel like as a result,
it's no problem.
Like if you ultimately speak
a little Japanese accented English,
just like me,
it's not a problem.
But it's a bad way, I guess,
to set a goal in that way.
True.
You don't want to go all in on Japanese.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Okay.
Thank you so much.
Oh, no problem.
Thank you for your advice.
Anytime.
Come back again.
Yeah, I mean,
that's really clear and crispy,
easiest English.
Is it?
Yeah, I mean,
well,
for many of the Japanese people.
Okay, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Easiest, I would say.
Okay, interesting.
Okay.
All right.
Cheers.
Thanks for sitting guys.
Thank you.
Cheers.
Cheers.
Cheers.
Cheers.
