Welcome to Kevin's English Room Podcast.
Hello. Hey guys.
Welcome back to Japan. Oh yeah.
Yeah. Thank you. When did you go back to Japan?
Um, uh, two days ago. Two days ago. Wow.
ハワイ旅行の延期と実現
That's right. Tell me how was it. Two days ago.Yeah. So, I went to Hawaii.
Yes. For one week. Very exciting. Very exciting.
Man, I was, uh, the plan, the trip was supposed to
be held, you know, last year, but due to my healthconditions, I had to, you know, postpone it.
Yes. And finally, I was able to go. That's right.Yes.
Um, so, the one week of staying in Hawaii. Yes.Very exciting. So, you were more than ready, Iguess.
Oh yeah, man. Oh yeah, definitely. Absolutely.Yeah.
ハワイでの豪雨被害
I would say there's two parts to it. Okay. Firsthalf and second half.
Okay, okay, okay. So, the first half, it wasraining like crazy. Oh, really? Yes.
So, yeah, you told me that. Right, before I wentthere, I talked to you about it.
How the weather is very unstable right now inHawaii and how it was flooding.
Yes, it was. Yeah, it was. So, they said that itwas the worst rain,
uh, worst rain in 20 years.
That's like a, I guess, historical. It was ahistorical rain.
Right, so. Worst in 20 years. In 20 years, it wasthe worst rain in 20 years. It flooded. Okay.
Right, and northern part of the Oahto, it flooded.Wow. Right, it flooded. It was terrible.
It was heartbreaking. But the main part, the Honolulu, the most, I would say, the most
touristy area, right, Honolulu, is in the southernpart of the Oahto. Okay.
And the southern part tends to be a little bitmore calmer. So, not as severe as the north,
but it still did, you know, flood in some parts ofHonolulu.
It definitely did rain heavy. Okay. I mean, yeah,I mean, I saw trees just falling down.
Oh, that bad? Yeah, it was a huge tree, just like,it, yeah, it was like, it was laying down.
So, it's not, I guess, something like very funnystory. Like, it was just all rain, kind of likethat,
but it was very serious. It was severe, man. Itwas severe. Wow. I mean, yeah, I mean, it was, thewind was crazy.
The rain and the wind was just, it was, it feltlike I was in a tornado. Wow. Really.
Were you guys okay? Yeah, we were safe. Like, flight and like, transfers and everything.
Yeah, luckily, flight-wise, we were okay. Okay.Yeah, the airplane was okay. And, yeah.
I didn't expect Hawaii to be like this, you know.Oh, yeah. I really didn't. Nobody expects that
Hawaii to be raining like that. Right. It was, itwas cold.
Like, literally. Oh, wow. Literally, the daybefore, when I was in Japan, that was so muchweather.
That was so much better. Really? The weather wasso much better. Like, it was just, it was calmer.
It was not as cold. Wow. And, like, the rain ofHawaii, it's, it's very unique, right?
It's very different from Japan. So, when it rains,it rains hard, but it's shorter. It's about, like,15 to maybe 2 hours of heavy rain.
And then comes sunshine or clouds. Okay. Right. But no rain for maybe, like, an hour or maybe 2hours or 3 hours.
And then it's a cycle of that. Wow. And, so, whenyou get to that, you know, sunny cycle, right, itlooks great.
You know, you're seeing that view of what you'vebeen seeing in the pictures. Nice. That's great.
But the thing is, the humidity is so high. It'slike, it's like the humid part of Asia, you know.Really?
The sun is really hot. The sun's, yeah, right. Thesun's really hot, and that's really humidifyingthe air.
So, it's like, oh, my God. It's so, like, jime jime, like, worse than Japan. Oh, really? Yeah.
Like, the tsuyu season in Japan. Yeah, it's worsethan the tsuyu season in Japan. So, like, right, the weather was not very good during the firsthalf of Hawaii.
Okay. Yeah, I guess you have, like, lotus in theground after the rain, and they were, like, vapingout.
Oh, yeah, that's right. It's coming up, you know. You can feel it. I get it.
天候回復とハワイの気候
Oh, yeah. The second half, right, was, luckily, that huge rain, I guess, season sort of endedhalfway during my trip.
And after that, it was quite sunny. You just get, like, a little bit of rain here and there.
But it really didn't bother you on your, you know, here and there. You go to these restaurants, andit didn't really affect you that much.
But, yeah, so... So, at least you enjoyed thelovely sunny... Yeah, the second half was verylovely.
I mean, the temperature was perfect, you know. Imean, the humidity is great, perfect.
You just sit outside with your coffee, and, youknow, it's a perfect day, yeah.
Seeing the blue ocean, blue sky, sunshine. Yeah, yeah, yeah, absolutely, absolutely.
The Hawaii days, I guess. Yeah, yeah, absolutely.Nice. So, that was good. So nice.
冷たい海水とアクティビティ
The beaches were quite cold, actually. That was alittle bit surprising as well.
I don't know if it was because of the weather ormaybe it's the rainy season. I don't know why, butit was cold. It was pretty cold.
Okay. Yeah. I thought Hawaii is, like, alwaysavailable, swimming, being, you know, seas andeverything.
No, pretty cold. Yeah. So, you didn't, like, getinside the ocean.
Yeah, but once you get inside, your body getsadjusted to it. So, like, when you go throughthat, like, that moment of, like,
Oh my god, it's so cold. Like, once you bear that, then you can sort of enjoy, you know, the swimmingand all that stuff.
But, like, the first 10 to 15 minutes, it's quitetough. Yeah.
Okay, okay. But you were not, like, it's soallowed to get in.
Oh, yeah, you're allowed to get in. Yeah. Good, good, good. Absolutely. Absolutely. Yeah.
Oh, that's Hawaii. Yeah. So, that's, I would say,the biggest, you know, highlight. The weather, youknow, of my Hawaii trip, I'd say. Yeah.
It's very rare. Yeah.
You, I mean, it's difficult to say this, but you're kind of lucky, I would say.
Right. That I got to experience, you know. It'ssomething very rare like that.
Right. Like a once-in-a-lifetime Hawaii worstweather, you know.
That's how I'm trying to, that's how I'm, like, processing it positively, you know. Like, this isa rare opportunity.
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So, you enjoyed the whole, the activities that you reserved, you said?
Yeah. Right. I did snorkeling. Snorkeling. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I did that. Very cold.
It was very cold. It was tough. Was it? Yeah. Butthe fishes were, you know, pretty.
Oh, nice, nice. You know, the coral.
The reefs were. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. They were, they were fantastic.
交通網の寸断とノースショア
The diamond head. Diamond head. The climbing ofthe diamond head. It's like a little mountain youcan climb.
Beautiful. Oh, nice. Beautiful. Nice. And this. You got the weather too?
Yeah. Luckily, the weather was okay. Oh, nice.Like, I rescheduled it to the last half.
Yeah, that's better. Yeah, I prayed on it. Yeah, great, great, great.
But I couldn't go to this one place, which was alittle bit up north, because the roads were closeddue to the weather, so I couldn't access it.
So that I couldn't go. The jungle thing that you. That's right. Yeah, yeah, that I couldn't go.
That sounds very interesting, but. Yeah, right. Iwas planning on doing, like, a horseback ride, right, but couldn't do it.
North Shore, it's a different beach where it'smore local. It's more quieter.
But that, of course, it's the north, so, you know, they're not ready for tourists. They're just, youknow, they're still recovering, so.
Oh, okay. So the damage is, like, quite severe.Yeah, especially the North Shore. Oh, I see, Isee.
It must be very tough for the local people. Yeah, right. Yeah, didn't know that.
ハワイでの食事と物価
So, yeah. But you enjoyed it. I enjoyed it. I did, man. I enjoyed it. Yeah, it was such a greatvacation.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Your health condition?Yeah, yeah, yeah. My health condition was okay.Yeah, I didn't have any trouble.
Good. That's great, right? Right. Yeah, yeah, luckily. Nice, nice. Yeah, food was great, too.
Oh, was it? Yeah, I ate a lot of pokebowl. Pokebowl. Yeah, pokebowl. Yeah, yeah, great.
I mean, the fishes were extremely fresh. Oh, yeah, because it's an island. Right, very, very fresh.
I read that you can get a lot of tuna in Hawaii. Not salmon, tuna. Yeah, yeah.
And a lot of the pokebowls, they serve the tuna.Fresh tuna. Very fresh. Oh, nice. Lovely. Oh,nice, nice, nice.
Price, you know, how the inflation in America andalso the weekend. True. The double punch rightthere.
Oh, that was a big punch. Was it? It felt like, you know, triple or even quadruple the price ofJapan.
That's how it felt like, you know. Well, I guess, especially Hawaii, it's a very pricey place.
Right, even within the United States, Hawaii is, Ithink, at the top with the gobukka. Wow, triple.
That's what it felt like, man. Yeah. So, how muchwas like one pokebowl?
I mean, it's like in yen.
That, we're going to do a video on that. Oh, okay, okay. Keep it. Yeah, yeah, but like, all right.
旅費と支払い方法
So, I charged, you know, the card wise, that wisecard that I introduced. I used that as well.
The green one. Yeah, the green one. Yeah, and whatyou do is you charge yen and then every time you
use the wise debit card, it just automaticallytransfers to dollar. So, I was like, oh, let'sjust like it.
I put some random yen in there, like, I don'tknow, like Juma or something like that.
It's gone, right? I was like, oh, it's almostgone. So, let me recharge it. No big deal.
Let's make sure that it doesn't run out. Let mejust put Juma in there. Okay, right.
No, I'm sure it's going to be okay. Like, severaldays, like, wait, we're almost out of
We're almost out of the Juma. What the fuck? Yeah.
It's pretty crazy with all the Uber rides you haveto use to get to a restaurant and
the food and, you know, the breakfast andactivities and, you know, all that stuff.
It hit hard, man.
It was pretty expensive, man. Yeah.
I was staying in Hawaii for a week. Yeah, it mustbe very expensive then.
I can't wait to calculate all the costs, like theairplane and the hotel and the actual, you know,
the Genji money. Very, very interesting. Veryinteresting. Yeah. Honestly, I really want toknow.
Yeah, I'm very excited.
