Welcome to Kevin's English Room Podcast!
Hello!
Hi!
How...isn't it a little cold here?
It's a little cold here. You want me to turn this off?
Yeah, thanks.
I'm gonna turn it off, right?
There you go.
There you go.
Okay?
You're wearing your Gap T-shirt.
I am wearing my Gap T-shirt.
I think I received this as a gift, I think.
Yeah.
It's, uh, I've...cute, right?
Cute.
The color matches with my pants that I'm wearing right now.
Cute.
Yeah.
The color matches your skin.
Thank you.
Thank you. Very, like, uh, very, uh, in the forest-like.
You know?
Yeah, like, wooden.
Yeah, wood.
Leaves, right?
Yeah, like a tree, you know?
Wait.
Your skin get tan.
I think my skin did get tan.
Uh, it was from two days ago.
Yeah.
Um, I was, uh, riding my bike.
Uh, on my, um, on my way to TikTok recording.
Okay.
It was so hot.
Yeah.
The sun was absolutely ridiculous.
Right. Summer's come finally, yeah.
Yeah. I had my sunscreen on.
You had? Really?
I did, and it fucking burned.
It is still, it still went through the fucking sunscreen.
Wow.
Unbelievable.
I think, yeah, I did, I feel like I did get tan.
I did.
You did?
Unbelievable.
Unbelievable.
But you tried to put your sunscreen on.
Yeah, yeah.
So it's not as tan, I think, I feel like, with, through that experience.
It, like, before I, you know, started using all these things, it probably would have gone much darker.
Much, much darker.
But still, if you, even if you put your sunscreens on it, you, you, you, that things happen.
My skin gets darker.
Yeah.
Unbelievable.
Unbelievable.
Then there's no, no way to...
I know, right?
Defend.
I just have to not go outside.
That's what I gotta do.
Which is impossible.
You know?
Is that, that's the reason why you took train this morning?
No?
Oh, no, no, no.
No?
No.
It was a tight schedule, so I thought I wanted to eliminate the...
Okay.
Maybe at the end of this summer you'll...
Oh, yeah.
Be very...
Oh, yeah.
Be excited.
Yeah.
Looking forward to.
It's, it's good with that I'm doing this right, I'm doing this, like, putting out content,
because I get to, I get to check, like, every date of, like, oh, in December I was this
skin, and like, oh, next month I had, was this dark.
True.
Like, yeah, I get to, like, you know, compare the differences of the past month of how,
how I've been doing with the sun tanning.
One day we'll compare.
Yeah.
You, in the middle of summer.
Yeah.
Mid summer versus mid winter.
Yeah.
Like, darker skin, yeah.
Okay.
So this is from me P san.
Me P san.
03:00
Or my P san.
My P san.
Okay.
Konnichiwa.
Konnichiwa.

Arigatou gozaimasu.
I think this question is for you man.
What do you think?
Me?
Yeah.
No?
How did you learn to get those intonations?
You know my way is intonation first.
Yeah.
So that's where I began.
Yeah.
So my intonation is kind of everything.
So if you're angry like you speak like "ahhh" that way.
Yeah.
I would recommend the same similar style to like listen to all those input get more input
on like the English speakers of their intonations right and then see how they're pronouncing
it as they speak.
You know how do they sound when they're curious?
How do they sound when they're questioning things right?
I think that's the best way to approach the problem right now.
Do you think Nihonjin wa intonation ga flat da no emotion da to iwarete shimaimashita
ga?
Do you agree with this?
I don't know.
Japanese people have flat intonation.
I don't think so.
You don't think so?
Hmm.
I just I think that's hmm.
I don't think so.
Yeah.
Okay.
Yeah.
Okay.
But I understand from the fact that like as they're thinking about how to say things
how to phrase things they're they're thinking so like they don't the flow isn't there.
The flow of the speaking isn't there that happens often maybe that maybe that teacher
is perceiving that as like a no intonation thing.
Why that is that happen?
Because they're thinking as they're speaking it cuts them off right?
Okay so they stop in the middle of the sentence to think what they say and then they continue
on the send.
Thinking about the words.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Remembering the phrases or those things.
Yeah.
Very Gen Z style.
Yeah.
Is that Gen Z style?
That's a Gen Z way of saying yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
06:00
Yeah.
That's a Gen Z way of saying yes.
Yeah.
Really?
That is sure.
It's very not cool.
Is that right?
Yeah.
It's well it's not I don't know I don't know about not cool but they're doing it.
They're saying it like this.
Yeah.
Ladies.
Ladies?
Yeah.
Girls.
Gen Z girls.
Gen Z girls?
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
The same as yes.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
That's the same thing.
Yeah.
But yeah.
Yeah.
They're saying yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
It's the same word just pronounced differently.
Yeah.
Yeah.
You need the first yeah.
Yeah.
I'm not a Gen Z professional so I can't speak of that speak for them that much but yeah
that sounds and looks very like Gen Z.
Yeah.
Those young girls.
Yeah.
I know.
Like it does.
It does.
Yeah.
Okay.
But that has very like clear intonation.
Mm-hmm.
You know.
Yeah.
Wave.
Yeah.
It does have the wave.
So you can say yeah.
That's a different thing.
Completely different right.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Okay.
All right.
Then the next question.
Okay.
Okay.
Um.
Um.
Hmm.
What?
Hot Wheels.
Hot Wheels?
Hot Wheel.
What is that?
Hot Wheels?
You don't know Hot Wheels?
No.
What is that?
Are you serious?
You don't know Hot Wheels?
Yeah.
I'm not serious.
Uh.
You're lying.
No.
No.
No.
What is Hot Wheels?
It's a something like bicycle?
No.
It's a you know it's a US version of Tomica.
Tomica.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Like little toy cars.
Yeah.
Hot Wheels.
09:00
Okay.
Are you seriously?
You've never heard of Hot Wheels?
Yeah.
Okay.
Maybe they didn't have it in France.
Hot Wheels?
I think it's like a global thing.
I don't know.
But maybe just I don't know.
Is that typical like the product name or maybe?
It's a product name.
Brand name?
It's a yeah brand name.
Brand name.
Hot Wheels is the uh yeah.
It's a collectible.
Okay.
Yeah.
You can I collected Hot Wheels too.
Really?
Yeah.
All these lots of cars like race cars and all these like.
You play.
Yeah.
You play.
They sell rails.
Uh-huh.
And then like yeah.
And then you like you smash the car and like see who wins.
You make them turn like you make them do like a.
Oh really?
Like a like a what do you call it?
Like hoop?
Yeah.
Hoop.
Yeah.
One hoop thing and those things.
That's a boys thing.
That's a very boys thing.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Very boys thing.
Yeah, I mean I did I did play play Beyblade.
Yeah me too.
I did that too.
Beyblade.
I know that.
I know that.
Yeah.

Oh.

I wasn't in the Pokemon.
You were not in Pokemon?
But I know that it's famous.
Is it card game is measured in the United States?
Those Yu-Gi-Oh.
You know in Japan there's so many Yu-Gi-Oh card, Pokemon card, many other.
It's a little bit geeky.
Okay.
Just a little bit.
But they're a popular subculture.
Yeah.
They are.
It's playing basketball, football.
Yeah like Nerf balls.
Like a little soft little balls and Nerf balls.
Nerf ball?
Nerf.
What?
Nerf.
How do you spell that?
I don't know.
N-U-R-F I think.
Nerf ball?
Nerf.
What's that?
It's like a little kid's ball.
Sounds like very weak.
It's soft fluffy.
Yeah.
How do you play that?
Is that any rule?
I think it's like a no it's just like a little like a soft football-ish kind of thing I
feel like.
Let me just I don't do it but I think it's popular.
Hold on.
I've never heard of a Nerf ball.
Nerf ball.
I may be wrong.
Oh yeah these these.
They're soft.
Football thing?
Yeah it's a kid's version of a football.
Okay.
Yeah you throw it and it doesn't hurt even if it hits you.
Okay.
You throw it and catch it.
