HyperOS 4の新しいガラス調デザイン
Hello, Shrunkle Spurt here, and today it's time tocelebrate because Xiaomi's HyperOS
version 4 is finally here! Boasting a fresh newlook and feel, and so many AI features
you could pack them all down your pants and reallyimpress the ladies. Now I've had a
chance to play around with the HyperOS 4 Beta hereon the Xiaomi 17 Ultra for a few days
now, and because I've had a lot of people askingabout it, here's a quick squint at
some of the new features, some of the things thathave changed up, so you'll know what
to expect when HyperOS version 4 rolls out to yourXiaomi or Poco Blower. Hopefully be
out of Beta soon, but of course it'll be astaggered rollout as usual, starting with
those more expensive flagships. And for more onthe latest and greatest tech, please do

So first up, with HyperOS 3, Xiaomi is introducingits Soft Light Glass aesthetic. Seems to be
quite fashionable, the old glassy transparencything. It's quite different certainly if we
compare to the old HyperOS version 3. Severalelements now have that fogged glass effect
where you can sort of see a hazy outline of thewallpaper underneath, whereas before
it was just a solid colour. And while I'm stillnot entirely convinced by the transparency
vibe at the moment, it certainly does help to adda little bit of texture to the control
centre for instance. You've got some subtleshading, makes everything look a bit less
flat. And same thing for your notification centreas well. And also the apps draw all
sort of transparent background by default. You candive on into the settings and tweak
that for the light and dark, but on auto modethere's no buggering about with it, it's
just fully glassy. It's also completelyunnecessary, but still kind of nice. Effects likefor instance
when you're dragging an app icon around on thedesktop for whatever reason, it sort of
has this glow and halo effect on your widgets andother bits. And if you head into the visual
style section of the settings, you do have achoice between soft glass and frosted glass.
As you can see, frosted glass is a lot moresimilar to how it used to be if you're not

really a fan of the fresh new transparency andshades and effects. One of the big whoops
of HyperOS 4 is the fact that the navigation hasbeen made smoother and faster. Apparently
Xiaomi has fully rewritten several of their ownfirst party apps, including the weather
app and the photo gallery, as well as the actualsystem launcher. And so HyperOS 4 allegedly
boasts faster app loading, especially for firstparty apps, as well as smarter memory
allocation in general. And certainly even afterhours of pretty intense action, I found
that HyperOS 4 loaded up apps, first party andthird party, the likes of Instagram, TikTok,
Spotify and YouTube, about as quick as you couldpossibly want. No hanging around, just
straight in there. And those first party apps dorun beautifully smooth as well, skimming
through the likes of the gallery, for instance.You're not hanging around waiting for pictures
to load up or anything, even when literallyskimming through years worth of content in
just a second. And you certainly can't see that'sthe case with HyperOS 3, as you can
see here, even running on the almighty Poco F9Ultra, still got to wait for that content
to load up. That is a marked improvement. Now I'vealways given HyperOS a bit of s***
for being a bit chonky, a bit clunky. Not exactlybuttery smooth, even on the most powerful
of handsets. But certainly HyperOS 4 does seem tobe a step up in that area, which is great
to see. Of course, that does come with the caveatthat I am running it here on the Xiaomi
17 Ultra, which is the best possible showcase forit. The true test for HyperOS 4 is going
to be, can it run this smoothly on the likes of aPoco M series of Redmi handsets? Something
that isn't anywhere near as beefy as the Xiaomi 17Ultra. Sadly, I can't answer that
right now, but it'll certainly be interesting tosee. Not many changes for a lot of the
other Xiaomi first party apps for HyperOS version4. The likes of security is basically
the same. The weather apps changed up a littlebit. The animations are a little bit more,
I don't know, sexy, I guess. Slightly more depthto them. The cloud effects in particular
appear to have been improved a bit. They look abit more natural, got a bit more depth and

texture and everything as they partially obscurethat temperature. Folder management is a bit
easier on HyperOS 4 as well. So for instance, ifyou long press on any folder, you can resize
it just by dragging out the corners. You can makethem super tiny or get them to fill up
a good chunk of that home screen. And with alarger folder like so, you can just tap
directly on the apps to load them up. Andapparently in HyperOS 4, you can also stack
widgets of the same size, one on top of the other,but I'll be buggered if I know how
to do that. Because whenever I attempt it, I endup just chasing the other widget around
the place like it's a f***ing Benny Hill sketch.I'm extremely jet lagged as I shoot this.
My brain just cannot cope. So certainly let meknow, please, in the comments below where
I'm being such a cack-handed twat how to actuallydo the stacking thing. That would be great.
Thanks. You've also now got more control of yournotifications and how they're presented
to you in HyperOS 4. So for instance, if you diveinto the lock screen section, you can
now choose to have those notifications presentedjust as a list like before. Otherwise, you
can have more stacked up neatly at the bottom,which is more 100 friendly, which is presented
as a number. Didn't have that option before. Oneof Xiaomi's first party apps that really

has changed up quite a bit is the Notes app, whichhas now been absolutely plugged full
of AI. So you've got a new voice note feature,which can transcribe your recorded ramblings
in real time. So for instance, I just did a memorydump last in just over a minute of
all the crap I need to do over the next few days.Lots of ums and ahs and oh, maybe do
this tomorrow. Actually, no, make it Mondayinstead, etc, etc. And then Notes has succinctly
summed up as a number of bullet points. I'veactually got a full on to-do tasks list, which
I can tick off. Bloody hell, I've got so much todo. I also quite like how during a recording
you can quickly scribble down any notes onwhatever. I even take a photo, which is quite
handy, I guess, if you're in a lecture or abusiness meeting where someone's scribbling
on a whiteboard, you want to capture all thatinformation as well. And of course, you've
still got the good old Recorder app here inHyperOS. And this is now slightly smarter
again, stuffed to the gut with AI, so this can cutout any pointless silences, for instance.
And once again, during a recording, you can createa mark, you can also take a photo again
just to help remind you of something or other. Soonce you've got your recording, just go
back into playback mode, tap this little icon downhere. As you can see there, you can enhance
your voice and everything. Now you can also skipsilence segments. So whenever you hit
one of these wee silences, as you can see, thatjust jumps forward in time. Although if
there is a wee bit of background noise, sometimesit seems to get a little bit confused and
doesn't skip those moments, which is a bit of ashame. And you've got some fresh theming

for the lock screen as well, lots of differentgraphical and visual options. I really like
quite a few in the classics section there, thepeople section, you've got again some
different options compared with HyperOS version 3.And also in the scenery section, the usual
sort of atmospheric offerings. And then finally,also Eastern aesthetics. Really like some
of these options, quite elegant looking. You'vegot a wee bit more customization for that
lock screen as well. So now you can actuallyresize your clock there nice and easy. Drag
it about the place as well, so you can have it atthe bottom, the top, wherever you fancy.
And that goes for any style and size of clock. Andpretty much apart from these big old stylized
chunky ones. But then you can change up the font,the style, the effect as well, gradient,
fuzziness, blended into the background, bit of anoverlap, etc. Anyway, there you have
it, my lovelies. There is a super quick, slightlyjet lagged look at HyperOS version 4. Some
of the fresh new features and aesthetics you canexpect. I'm hoping once it moves out of
full on tips and tricks guide, some of the bestnew bits in there, how to really get the most
