Alright, here we go. Welcome to Murapyon's Monologue Channel. This is episode 14.
Alright, everyone, thanks so much for waiting... Actually, you weren't waiting. Um...
It's been a really long time. I've kind of been slacking off big time when it comes to putting out episodes,
今日のテーマなんですけど、but I thought I'd finally get back to recording a podcast episode. So, today's topics are...
Um, I had an amazing time during Obon. I went back to my parents' place, so I'll talk about that,
先週は彼女の誕生日だったんで、その 彼女リクエストのバスクチーズケーキを作りましたよand last week was my girlfriend's birthday, so I made the Basque cheesecake she requested.
So those are the two topics I'd like to talk about today. Alright, so...
Um, so yeah, we've got those two topics,
how should I put it... Let's start with my trip back home.
So, during Obon, the Obon holiday here in Japan,
お盆休み、何日からだっけ、8から16まで、when was the Obon break again? From the 8th to the 16th,
I took the weekdays in between off as well, basically treating it as my summer vacation.
And during that time, I went back home to visit my family.
Well, not for the entire break,
その、 えーと、12からbut, um, from the 12th
to the 15th, I went back home.
It's not like I did a whole bunch of different things,
I mostly just relaxed at my parents' place.
I did eat a little too much delicious food and ended up gaining quite a bit of weight, though,
but hey, that's what happens on a long vacation. That's just how it is.
And, um, one thing that especially stood out to me was...
Well, usually, um, for one day,
どっかで夏のお盆の時って、どっかの、えーと、sometime during the summer Obon holiday, there's this, um...
姉の、なんだろう、 ふっくり校生の一つで、なんか、something through my sister's... what do you call it... employee benefits program, where...
ホテルみたいなのがめっちゃ安く泊まれますよっていう、you can stay at certain hotels for really cheap,
大正のホテルに泊まるときはものすごく安く泊まれますよっていうのがありまして、and there's this program where you can stay at eligible hotels for a really low price,
まあそれ使って、その毎年夏、so we use that every summer,
お盆休み、一日、and during the Obon holiday, for one night,
そのホテルに泊まるんですけど、we stay at one of those hotels.
And that hotel has this sort of beer garden,
and you can have barbecue there.
On the night you're staying at the hotel.
And the meat there was insanely good. Like, seriously delicious.
I was like, "Wow, I didn't know meat could taste this good."
So I ate that, and, um, how should I put it...
I ate all that, and then I drank a ton of alcohol too.
Beer, highballs, sours,
あといろいろ飲んじゃって、and a bunch of other stuff too.
I mean, um, how should I put it...
いろいろなやつを飲むのは良くないって言われてるんですけど、they say it's not a good idea to mix a bunch of different kinds of alcohol,
but I just can't help myself. I always end up trying different things.
I don't even know why.
Well, I do like drinking, so I guess that's why.
I've been drinking a little too much lately,
and my parents really gave me a hard time about it.
They were like, "Don't drink so much."
Even though my parents drink a ton themselves.
I have no idea why, though.
Well, I mean, about my health,
I think they were probably worried about my health,
まあそれは、はい、素直に受け止めて、so yeah, I took that to heart,
ちょっとお酒の量は控えめにしながら、and tried to cut back a bit on how much I drank,
and that's basically how I spent my Obon holiday.
And speaking of the Obon holiday,
it was really hot, as always.
I was surprised it was even that hot back in my hometown.
And at night, when I was staying at the hotel,
the stars were beautiful, as you'd expect.
You can barely see any stars in Tokyo,
so it felt like, wow, it's been ages since I've actually seen the stars.
Yeah, you really just can't see them there.
I think Venus was about the only thing I could see.
You can see Venus, but for some reason, you just can't see the other stars.
Well, anyway, that's how it was.
I didn't really do enough over Obon to spend that much time talking about it, so yeah.
My family grows all kinds of crops back home, too.
Watermelons and things like that.
And I think they gave me some of the watermelon.
Yeah, they gave me some of the ones they'd grown at home,
で、それを食べたんですけど、and I ate some,
and there were a few ripe watermelons that were absolutely delicious.
Watermelons are ridiculously expensive if you try to buy one around here,
見えないんですけど、so you don't really see them much,
so it was nice getting to enjoy some watermelon, and it tasted great.
Apparently, though, the watermelons are being targeted by monkeys,
because monkeys have finally started showing up in the countryside—or rather, in my hometown.
It's pretty scary.
Yeah, exactly.
And what else was there?
Um, what did I do again?
Oh yeah, I played catch with my younger brother for the first time in ages.
Playing catch might sound kind of crazy,
and yeah, playing catch was intense, but it was a lot of fun.
Of course, my shoulder ended up really sore,
and since I was wearing a sleeveless shirt, my shoulders got seriously sunburned.
They turned completely red after just one day,
その泊まる、ホテルに泊まる日の夕方にやったんですけど、and we played catch that evening, on the day I was staying at the hotel,
まさか、それで焼けるとは思ってなかったんで、so I really wasn't expecting to get sunburned from that,
and it caught me by surprise, yeah.
I got really sunburned, and yeah, that's pretty much how I spent my Obon holiday.
Moving on, last Tuesday—oh, no, Wednesday—
あの彼女の誕生日でしたんで、was my girlfriend's birthday,
この彼女にリクエストを受けて、ハンバーグと、and she requested that I make hamburg steak,
or rather, cheese-stuffed hamburg steak, along with a Basque cheesecake.
And as for the hamburg steak, last year I made this giant one in a huge frying pan,
ハンバーグ、一個丸々ドーンってやったようなホットケーキみたいになったんですけど、just one massive hamburg steak filling the whole pan, so it ended up looking kind of like a pancake,
それを作ってあげて、今年はちゃんとしたハンバーグを、so that's what I made for her last year, but this year I made proper individual hamburg steaks,
7個くらい作ってあげたんですけど、and I made about seven of them for her.
Well, I got a ton of compliments. I don't usually cook, though.
They were like, "Wow, your cooking is actually really good!"
You know, when you're working, by the time you get home, you just don't feel like cooking,
I'll make simple things like stir-fries and stuff,
but I don't really make things from scratch, like hand-kneaded hamburger steaks. Yeah.
So yeah, I was a little surprised that I got so many compliments.
I mean, even I was surprised, honestly.
While they were cooking, um, all these juices started sizzling out of the meat,
そう、で、間からチーズがトロリーって出てきて、and then the cheese started oozing out from the middle,
and I was thinking, "Oh man, there's no way this isn't going to be delicious." Yeah.
And they told me it was delicious, so I was really, really happy.
So they were happy with the hamburger steaks,
まあ、誕生日なんでね、but, well, it was a birthday, after all,
私の手作りケーキのバスクチーズケーキを、えーと、出して、so I brought out a homemade Basque cheesecake that I'd made,
It was my first time making Basque cheesecake, but it turned out incredibly delicious.
I was honestly surprised that I could make it turn out that well.
I mean, I'm not trying to brag about my own cooking or anything,
but something I wasn't sure I could even make turned out way more delicious than I expected. Yeah.
I was like, "Wow, this is amazing."
I mean, all I did was mix the ingredients and put it in one of those microwave ovens,
and that was pretty much it. I just baked it in the oven. Yeah.
It really surprised me, honestly.
So yeah, that's how it went.
Anyway, Basque cheesecake is really easy to make, so definitely give it a try.
Once you've mixed the ingredients and poured them into a cake pan, all you have to do is put it in the oven and bake it,
so if you're interested, definitely try making a Basque cheesecake yourselves. Yeah.
So yeah, that's about it.
Thanks so much for listening again today.
I'll see you again next time.
All right, take care.
See you!
