Welcome to Kevin's English Room Podcast.
Hello. Hello.
Hello guys.
So, yeah, messages.
Last one.
Okay.
Okay.
Thank you.
I was gonna say SpongeBob.
I was gonna say SpongeBob.
Does he speak weirdly? Like typical way?
I don't think so. He has his SpongeBob style, but I guess that's what he's talking about.
What do you mean SpongeBob style?
SpongeBob style. You've heard of SpongeBob talk before?
I don't know.
You've seen SpongeBob before?
Yeah. Twice, three times.
Okay.
I know there was SpongeBob who looks like Sponge with a little red crab guy.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
That's my whole image.
To watch SpongeBob while you were just standing there whistling, someone threw a snowball at me!
Oh really, Patrick? Did the snowball look like this?
Yeah, okay.
But I think every kids' show, if you think this is a little bit too Kusetsuyo, then most of the kids' show is Kusetsuyo than I think.
I see, I see.
Don't you think?
Yeah.
I'm sorry to say this, but it's funny if your son speaks like that all the time.
Hey, my dad. Hey, daddy. Hey, dad. I'm trying to cook some breakfast. You want one, dad?
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
If you're trying to make your voice sound like SpongeBob, that's bad.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
I picked up a lot from SpongeBob, actually. I did. I did pick up a lot of English from SpongeBob.
I see, I see.
Yeah, I mean, I'm down for SpongeBob.
Yeah, and you don't talk like SpongeBob.
I don't talk like SpongeBob. I don't.
Sure.
You know, yeah, Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon was my...
I see.
Yeah, I saw a lot of those while I was picking up English, so I guess not sticking to one show would be good.
True.
Yeah.
That's important, like catching many different types of voices.
Yeah.
Many different types of accent or the ways so that you know what's the common...
The core.
The core, yeah.
You can right now, you can pay to watch Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network in Japan, right? I think.
Okay, I don't know.
I think so, yeah. I think, yeah, there's a provider there, I think.
Right, so...
Yeah, yeah, yeah. True, like those anime characters tend to have typical way of speaking.
Yeah, yeah.
True, if somebody wanna, you know, want his son to speak Japanese and have him watch Doraemon, for example.
Right.
What are you doing?
Yeah, that's funny. True, true.
But I don't hear that much Japanese kids sound like that.
Yeah, even though they watch like Crayon Shin-chan or like Doraemon or like Sazae-san, I read those.
They're all, they talk really weird.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
We don't... So I guess kids pick up...
True.
They learn, they understand that it's a special way of speaking, I guess.
True.
But at the same time, they have Japanese environment.
So...
True.
They hear from their parents, their friends, teachers and everything.
That's not their only, right.
Yeah.
It's not their only source.
You cannot know if he's strange or like not.
That's true.
Yeah.
But I've never heard any Japanese speak English in a specific character's way.
Oh, I see.
Right?
And I'm sure I've come across at least one person that grew up only listening to, I guess, a certain type of cartoon.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
But I've never, you know, never crossed my mind.
So, I guess you don't pick up on it.
Yeah.
Hopefully.
Yeah, hopefully.
There are some foreigners learning Japanese by watching animes.
And then some of them speak like...
And then that happens sometimes.
Yeah, I've heard...
Oh, you've heard of, okay.
Of those.
Got it.
So, you don't know actually how bad it is.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Okay.
But I hope...
I see.
Yeah.
But to be safe, watch multiple cartoons.
Mix things.
Right.
Mix everything.
Yeah.
Yeah, so I would go for Cartoon Network or Nickelodeon.
Yeah, that's better.
Have you seen Nickelodeon or Cartoon Network?
Or Disney Channel?
Disney Channel is great, too.
Yeah.
Cartoon Network, yes.
Cartoon Network, yeah?
Yes, yes, yes.
Powerpuff Girls.
Powerpuff Girls.
The Doctor something.
Dexter's Laboratory.
Yeah, that one, yes.
Yes.
And we're looking at the same thing.
Some other random...
Then I'm sure you know Kim Possible.
Kim Possible?
Kim Possible.
Kim.
Possible.
No?
I don't know.
If I see the face, then I would...
Maybe.
Ed, Edd n Eddy?
Ed, Edd n Eddy.
Yeah, I know that name.
Yeah.
Ed, Edd n Eddy.
Three guys.
Three guys.
Yes, yes, yes.
Yeah.
Well, I cannot remember the faces.
I know the name.
I know that sound.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Courage the Cowardly Dog.
Oh, I know that guy.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Yeah, but...
The reason why I was watching the Cotton Walk was...
I wanted to see the football games.
And that was like on cable TV.
I see.
Yeah, there are times that there's no match.
No games.
So I just, you know, do like...
I only had like four, five channels.
That was called J-Sports.
J-Sports 1, 2, 3, I guess.
And then Cotton Walk.
I see.
And you have other like golf or like mahjong or things like that.
Which doesn't...
I wasn't into.
So I mainly like switching four and just...
Randomly hit on like those...
Cartoons?
Yeah, and just watch.
I see.
Until the game starts, so...
Oh, I see, I see.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Got it, got it.
So you weren't full into Cartoon Network or Disney Channel?
No, I don't...
Yeah.
I don't remember like precisely.
I see, I see.
But I know Powerpuff Girls and Dexter's Laboratory.
Yeah, I remember those two.
Yeah, classic.
Nice.
Alright, so...
Yeah, give that a try.
Yeah.
Alright, thanks for listening, guys.
Thank you.
Bye-bye.
