Welcome guys
This is Kevin's English Film Podcast
*singing*
*singing*
Okay
I'm here with a special guest
of Mr.
Yamachan
*cheering*
Oh great opening by the way
Thank you
So that opening
was very special opening
New opening
Tell us what happened
Take us through what happened
We've got jingle
We've got a new jingle on our podcast
That's the jingle for the radio
Yeah exactly
We should put that jingle on
We're kind of professional
professional podcasters
We should put jingles on?
So what happened was
We wanted to put jingles on our
podcast but we don't have the
audio file so why not
have somebody sing the jingles
That was Yamachan singing
Oh yeah actually it was me
Well I was reading the intro
I think that worked out great
Yeah
*laughing*
That's not gonna happen in the next episode
*laughing*
We're still fans
Okay so you said you have a question for me?
Alright bye
So now
You're doing hota
I'm feeling like
I wanna move my body and I wanna do some sports
Okay
I love soccer
And I know that you like playing tennis
Yes I do
Do you really like tennis?
I do! Why would you ask that?
Because you know actually I've never seen you playing tennis
Oh I think you're right
Actually you know
I think we have haven't we?
Once
In a park
In a park?
Really close to the nearest station of our college
No?
No
But you know I saw you playing table tennis once
*laughing*
Okay
But not
In Tokyo
But no tennis
And actually I've never heard
that you
were talking about
tennis
Okay
So I would like to
hear about that
When you started playing tennis
So the first time
I played tennis was
in
middle school in the United States
I joined
the
No the first time was
like
near the end of elementary
So
Back in Rome
Rome Georgia
No not that
Rome man
03:00
People always say that when I say Rome
Like Italy?
No you little fucker
Georgia! Jesus Christ
People doesn't know
that Rome and Georgia are
I'm so sorry about
the people in Rome
But did you know that
Rome Italy and Rome Georgia is
sister and sister
Oh really?
That must be
the most
The hierarchy
is extreme
Everybody in Rome Georgia knows that
Not sister
It's kind of
Grandparents and grandsons
God
God and servant
Right
So
Back when I was in Rome
There was a tennis court
Near very near
our house
It's probably unbelievable
when you're in Japan but it's
it's free to use
Free
That's amazing for Japanese people
We don't have that
No one is
Zero staff
I think occasionally
once a week maybe someone
who's taking care of that property
is cleaning and doing all the
maintenance work I guess
Usually there's no one
there that's regulating it
You can
You can use that 24/7
It's always open
It's just kind of a park
Right it's like a normal
public park
You can turn the lights on
I don't know how you call that
but like the professional
The lights
for athletic events
Oh really? Do they have that?
They've got that
So you can play even in the night?
Even in the night yes you can play
Midnight is okay
It's not locked
So
Being the
very
being a humble family
being a humble family
We don't use money
much often
So
We would go to the park
We would go to the tennis field
and play tennis
That's great
It's a great family
That's what we do
That's how I started playing tennis
It was with me
my father and my sister
That's how it all started
Then I
joined the tennis team
for
in the United States
Middle school
It was like
a middle school club thing?
Yeah it was a club
Like bukatsu?
It's supposedly a club
but it's not like the club in Japan
06:00
where you have to attend
every week
There is no
coach
No senpai
That's all fun and games
You go there
You
You move your body
Okay
It's like
It's like an exercising course
Not something that
you train yourself
being
like a professional tennis player
Exactly
You're not there to
be
you know
in Wimbledon
You're not there
You're just there to
exercise, get your body going
That's all
That's all
That's how everybody interprets that
No one's gonna
teach you some extra skills
You go there if you want
If you don't want to feel like going there
you go home
And so
That's how
clubs in middle school are
And then
High school
I did not enter a tennis team
because I heard that it was
extremely severe
I didn't wanna
I didn't wanna
suffocate myself
Because you were in Japan
Right, I was in Japan
And I heard that Japanese clubs were very strict
Right?
Physically and mentally
And I was very scared
I was very terrified
I would go to like
I would walk down the hallway
Right?
On a rainy day, the sports teams
would do Kinto-ren training
in the building because it's raining outside
And people were like
(Kinto-ren training)
Army, like
People from the army
I was terrified actually
Honestly, I was very terrified
So it was surprising for you
It was very surprising
Yeah
It was like
Very shocking
That's what I did
I didn't know
I didn't know if these people were finding happiness
During the clubs
I'm sure they do
I'm sure they got their own way of
Some people doesn't
They got a goal
They got a beautiful goal
They get fulfilled when they reach that point
I'm sure that's a great way of living
So, and then
I was in the drama club
I joined the drama club
But I separately joined a different
team, I guess
I was in a tennis team
Very separated from school
Like what?
Like a local tennis team
I was in a local tennis team
09:00
That's where I played tennis
Yeah
And that's about it
That was probably the end of my tennis career
It's end already?
Well, I mean, yeah
I'm not playing tennis that much often
But if you ask me to let's go
I'll probably go
I do still like moving my body
Yeah
I guess, yeah
Do you play tennis now?
I mean, no
I have different things to do
So you retired
I don't know
I was never in the game anyway
I never was in a tournament or anything
I never competed
With anybody in tennis
You know how there are tournaments in Japan, right?
I don't know what kind of tournaments there are
Kentaikai or things like that?
Yeah, things like that
I've never joined that
I was never
in the
competitive world
of tennis
I always played because I wanted to move my body
And it's fun for me to
run for the ball
That was fun for me
It's the only reason
So do you see any tennis matches?
Like professional
So sometimes like on TikTok
Tennis matches would
come up
I would watch that video
Full length
But I would never watch a full
Tennis match?
Full tennis match
I would never be excited for Wimbledon
Oh really?
You're just watching it
Just playing that
I don't know
I definitely enjoy playing more than watching
But you know
I wouldn't sit down on my couch
And watch
it on my television
But if it's like
If TikTok
If TikTok provides me
all my timeline
That's like a 60 second video
So I would stop
60 seconds for a tennis match
But I would not
I would not stay there for an hour and a half
For a full length tennis match
I guess you understand
I guess you get
How not
excited I am for watching it
So you like
playing it?
Yeah I like playing it
I don't know
I guess I'm not a competitive person
when it comes to athletic sports
Right
But I do like
I like team sports
What are you talking about?
I like team sports
when it comes to competitive matches
What do you mean?
Soccer? Football? Basketball?
Soccer, basketball, football
12:00
I want to win
as a team
I don't enjoy winning
just by myself
That's interesting
I want to enjoy
the success with teammates
That's fun for me
So if it's team sports
Yeah
You try to win
Yes
If it's team sports
I want to win
I want to win with a team
I want to share the happiness
Share the happiness
That's great
What kind of sports have you tried?
I mean team sports
In college
I've done
Ultimate
Oh yeah with the little disc
Yes
Frisbee
It's a similar sport
to basketball
But frisbee thing
Basketball I've done that too
In college
I've done
team sports
I want to do soccer
But I suck at soccer
I fucking suck at it
I just don't understand
how the ball on the feet works
Okay
So other team sports
I've done
Do you remember
we've done
once
When we went to
The big ball
No it's not
I don't know if you remember
Once we went to the
camping
To kind of mountain
With so many other friends
Yeah
When we returned to our home
We stopped at the
little park
It wasn't a park
It was a place
We stopped at the place
And we did kabaddi
What was the rule?
You have to keep saying
kabaddi kabaddi
Yeah I remember
Go to the
place
It's kind of American football
With that ball
Do you lose when somebody touches you
when you have the ball?
Yeah that kind of thing
So
So you're using some sort of
If you will be touched by enemies
You have to go back
to your territory
I remember
So there's a field
And it's separated into two sides
They have
We've got
I guess
The goal
On the very back of each
side's field
And
The team would try to
Go to the opponent
15:00
side's goal without being touched
by the opponent
Got it got it got it
When do you say kabaddi?
Well
You have to say kabaddi when you are
inside of the enemy's
territory
You have to keep saying that
Oh that's the rule
Got it got it got it
That was a fun game
So that was fun too
I like how
You team tag
You tag with somebody and then you do
a little trick
The opponent kind of move
That's fun for me
You can only do that with teammates
With basketball
There's a lot of ways
to trick opponents
and do trick moves with teams
That's fun for me
But it's not as convenient
It's not as
You can't just be like
Let's do some team sports
You need to get people
to open up their schedule
So
I enjoy it but
The logistics is just too
Too much of a barrier
for me
If it's tennis I'll just need
me and another person
Yeah I guess that's how
I do things
I've done futsal too
I sucked at it
Fucking sucked
Handball
Oh handball
I've done that too
You did so many sports
No but it was college
PE class
So it's just
It's just like one hour
One or two hours and you're done
And I guess that's it
We talked 16 minutes
It was a long episode
Alright thanks for listening guys
Bye bye
