Welcome to Kevin's English Room Podcast!
Alright!
I just had my quick...
Quick energy intake.
Yeah.
Got some sugar bread.
And some karaage.
Yeah.
Some quick charge.
Energy boost.
I am... I feel good.
Okay.
God, I was hungry.
God, I was hungry.
I'm really happy that you came back.
Mm-hmm.
Alright.
Okay.
So, um...
Do you remember Kano-san?
She's, uh...
Kano-san.
Right, the girl who gave us...
First and only one who gave us a voice message through our podcast.
Yes.
And, uh, she's back!
Wow, she's back!
She's back!
Wow.
And, uh, she has sent us another voice message.
Uh-huh.
Um...
And, uh, we got 'em right here.
Okay.
Alright, let's listen to it.
So, I'm going to play this.
Yes.
Okay?
So, this is the first time that...
That it's being aired on...
Right.
...online.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Get ready.
Okay.
Oh, you stopped! You stopped!
Why'd you stop?
So cute.
Right? It's cute, right?
I couldn't stop, I mean, smiling.
You can't stop smiling? Okay, why?
Because it's...
It's really cute?
It's cute. Yeah.
Oh, yeah. I mean, it's sweet, right?
Just giving us voice messages.
Like, it's really...
...happy.
Yeah!
That I can hear the real voice.
Exactly!
Not the text, like...
...the screen.
You value the human connections, right?
I guess voice information...
Yeah.
...really gives you the connections even...
Right.
...much more.
Yeah.
You wanna continue?
The message, or...
Why'd you stop?
Yeah, I'm just tasting, you know.
You're...right.
Having time to...
You're marinating with your...
...feelings right now.
Yeah.
You...
You good?
Yeah.
You good? You good?
Okay, I'm gonna...
Okay.
...blame.
If you'd like, I'd be happy if you could tell me...
...what you were happy about doing in college...
...or what you think you should have done.
Thank you for everything.
Okay!
Thank you for everything.
Thank you, Kanon-san.
Thank you, Kanon-san.
Thank you.
And, um...
We're always open to receive messages through voice, you know?
Yes.
Just like how Kanon-san's doing.
So, can you explain how we do this?
Yes, of course.
I think you need to download the app called Anchor.
Okay.
A-N-C-H-O-R.
Anchor.
It's a purple...icon.
03:02
Okay.
It has a purple icon.
This app is...it's a podcast publishing application.
It's the one that I'm using to actually publish my Kevin's English Room podcast.
It distributes it out to Apple, Spotify, Google...
...all the other podcast platforms.
Mm-hmm.
Um...
So, what Anchor does is you upload it on Anchor...
...and it distributes it to everything else.
So, you can send messages via Anchor.
Oh, okay.
To me.
To us.
To Kevin's English Room.
So...
That's how you do it.
Alright.
So, you do need to get the app called Anchor.
Okay.
Which could be a barrier for many people.
For people who, you know, doesn't have much memories in their smartphone.
It's gonna be a barrier.
So...
Yeah.
That's all.
Um, yeah.
Yeah.
Alright.
Okay.
So...
Yeah.
Okay.
Okay.
No, just...
Yeah.
Okay.
Okay?
Yeah.
Did I step into something?
No, no, no, no, no.
No.
No problem.
I mean...
I'm just, you know, I'm just stating general facts, you know?
It's a general statement that I'm making.
Yeah.
Yeah?
Of course.
Yeah.
Oh.
Mm-hmm.
So, is that available for Android?
Are you sure?
Um, yeah, I think it's available for Android.
Okay.
Yeah.
I think so.
Oh.
Okay.
Probably.
Yeah.
Alright.
No problem then.
Yeah.
So, right.
That's how you send us voice messages.
Okay.
Okay?
Well, it's really happy to receive that real voice message.
Yeah, it is.
It is.
You get to hear their emotions and, like, their hype and everything.
And that's...
That's more emotions.
Yeah.
On it.
That adds another layer, right?
Mm-hmm.
So, you will be very, very much welcomed.
Yes.
The voice messages.
Please do.
Please do.
And we are getting a little bit overwhelming with the DMs too, right?
It's hard to keep track of.
We're getting so many DMs.
And I'm sure that we missed...
Right.
...several of the...
Maybe.
...the requests.
And I'm sorry if I did.
Yeah.
I'm trying our best here.
Sorry about that.
You know, there's so many, like, message for podcasts...
For...
Right.
...TikTok for YouTube.
YouTube.
Some...
Just personal messages too, right?
Personal messages and corporate messages.
Yeah.
So...
So, I guess this anchor thing is another open space...
Mm-hmm.
...that we're...
Get clear attentions.
Yeah.
Right?
So, there you go.
Okay.
That's one.
Mm-hmm.
Okay.
Well, great.
Thank you, Kanon-san.
So, what was it that you...
You think, in hindsight, you should have done when you were in college versus, like...
Is there anything that you...
What was the question?
What...
What do you look back now...
Mm-hmm.
...that you thought that you wanted...
Should have accomplished?
Mm-hmm.
And what was the good things that you have done...
Ah.
...while you were a college student?
Hmm.
Uh...
06:02
Being a member of a great circle...
I was about to say...
Yeah.
Biggest thing...
100%.
Yeah.
Exactly.
Biggest merit...
Mm-hmm.
...is that I met you, man.
Oh, wow.
Thank you.
[laughter]
I met you in Kake-chan.
Oh, thank you.
Yeah.
Of course.
It's a big life changer...
Of course.
...for me, you know?
Yeah.
Like, I...
The human connections are, I think, the biggest upside...
Right.
...for a university.
So, I guess...
One thing is...
Make the connection...
Mm-hmm.
...with a lot of people.
Meet new people.
Have the social skills to do so.
I know it's hard to some people.
I know it's...
Some people are introverted.
I'm introverted, too.
Like, but, like...
But, connect with introverted people.
Like, I'm sure there's ways...
A lot of people...
...can relate to your feelings.
And I...
There's several...
What am I...
I don't...
I'm gonna stop talking right now.
[laughter]
Why you stop yourself?
The sugar just came in now.
Okay.
So, you're a little overdosed.
Yeah.
But I'm back. I'm back.
I'm back.
I'm sure there's lots of people who, you know, you can...
Who you'll feel close with.
So, make friends with them.
Some of those friends are gonna be a lifetime friends.
Yeah.
So...
That's treasure, so...
Sure.
You know?
And also, besides from making friends, try new things, right?
It's... I think in college, it's like the best time to...
You're not so much pressured into doing club activities and homeworks and...
True.
You have free time.
You have time.
And at the same time, you don't have the luggages and the barriers, like, when you become an adult.
Like, you don't have to pay for rent.
Your parents are...
If that's the situation, man.
If you're fortunate...
Your parents maybe are...
You're under the safety net of your parents.
Right.
So, you go and taste a lot of things, you know?
Right.
It could be the time that you are able to find the passion, the thing that could really affect your line of profession.
So, you could use that time to taste a lot of things.
That's a good way of using time in college.
True.
Like you did a shop.
Yeah, I did.
I did a kitchen car, kind of... Yeah.
It was a good thing to taste, you know?
I learned a lot about myself by experiencing that.
Right.
That period is really like...
Allows us to do everything we want, actually.
Right.
And if you...
If you're the...
If you...
I mean, I don't think this is the wrong answer, too.
Like, going...
Like, entering a "charasakuru" and drinking your ass off.
I think that's an experience, too.
Like, you experiencing that...
09:00
Like, being...
Like, fucking around to the extreme will teach you something that could be something beneficial in the future, right?
Like, so...
Anything you do would be a right answer, but go all in would be kind of my advice here.
Right.
Yeah.
That was great advice.
Yeah.
All in. Go all in.
Go all in on what your heart says.
Yeah.
Right.
Try new things.
Like, a little bit.
Try this, try this, try this.
And everything.
Just try.
And if you find something, go all in.
In hindsight, college was when I really built my empathy, my human skills.
It was during my college days.
Oh.
For real.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Right.
And also, the one thing that I'm really happy right now that I could've done was go on a trip by hitchhiking and went to a different city with my friend.
Really?
You wish you would've done that.
Yeah, I mean, we cannot do this after we, you know, like, the age of 26, 27, 30.
Why not?
Because everyone will be so suspicious.
You know, the driver side.
Okay.
If we were like, "Ojisan."
Uh-huh.
No, it's a little tough to do this.
I mean, it's not too late now.
For us?
Yeah.
Yeah, of course, of course.
Like, luckily we have time and we can manage all that time and schedule and everything so we can do this.
But if we were in a usual company job, it's really tough to have time and having no plan and go out, you know.
Did you have that desire when you were in university?
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
I really wanted to do some kind of, like, Chikyushu or hitchhiking or backpacking and things like that.
I didn't do Chikyushu and backpacking, but that was so fun, hitchhiking.
You know, it felt like we can do anything we want.
We can go everywhere we want, actually.
Right, right.
You're right.
Yeah, the college students period is something that, timing that makes us realize that we can do anything you want, actually, if you wish and try hard.
12:10
Yeah.
That's something I learned from the circle activity and all the things we did.
Right.
So, try things.
Right.
That's a great advice.
Yeah, and do some mistakes.
Yeah, make lots of mistakes.
That's important, too.
Yeah.
It's what teaches you the most.
Yeah, as hard as you can.
Yeah.
That's really important.
Like, going hard and then being punched in the face.
Yeah.
It's a really good experience.
Right.
You know?
The harder the punch is, the bigger your gain is.
Exactly.
It's a good thing.
Right.
Rejection's a good thing, you know?
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
We're making mistakes.
Exactly.
Especially in the college students period.
Yes.
But, you know, you can recover.
Exactly.
You have nothing to lose.
You don't have family.
You don't have kids.
Some of you have kids.
Right.
You got to think about that.
But, like, yeah, majority, you don't have the baggages.
So, like, go all in.
Right.
Right.
And one more thing is just fall in love.
Ah, yeah.
Deeply and strongly, as hard as you can, and break up.
Yeah.
That is so important, right?
Yeah.
Like, it's the time you can, where you're, I think university is the place where in life
you can enjoy romance the most.
You can meet so many people in the reality, and you can have so many time.
Right.
But I do argue that with the current technology, with the online dating society, there's a
lot of opportunities opening up.
You don't have to be in a university society.
There's so much more.
If you're in a university, you could only realistically meet with the people in the same community,
right?
But with the current technology, with Tinder and things like that, you can meet anybody
in the world.
Right.
So, like, that opens up a whole new stage of possibilities.
And that's another thing.
Yeah.
So, like, right.
Right, right.
Just wanted to sneak that in.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Yeah.
True.
Right.
But, right, it does teach you a lot.
And romance does teach you a lot, you know?
Yeah.
Like...
What else?
I remember being a freshman in high school, or when I first...
15:02
High school?
Oh, sorry.
University.
Being a freshman in university, and I didn't know how to date anybody.
Like, I didn't really, really know how to, like, make that relationship.
Like, I did have...
I did go on several dates with my girlfriend when I was in high school, but I didn't really
understand, like, the whole concept of it.
I was doing it because everyone else was doing it.
When I went to university, I saw this...
I saw Terrace House.
Oh.
Yeah.
That actually taught me a lesson.
Wow, really?
That TV show.
Yeah.
That TV show actually taught me a lesson.
I was like, "Okay.
Okay, so that's how you date people."
So I'm like, "Okay.
Oh, so that's how you carry out a conversation?
Like, oh, you be honest about yourself and tell them what you think of this problem.
Okay, so that's how you build relationships.
Okay, I'm trying that on my own."
Yeah.
It kind of really built that...
That knowledge of, like, sympathy, empathy, and, like, the human relationship skills.
It really started with that TV show.
Okay.
Better to say, but that's the truth.
I have to see that, Tell Us House, then.
Have you never seen it?
No.
Really?
I have to learn from that.
You know what it is?
I mean, that's a shared house.
Yeah, there you go.
Six people get together.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
It's kind of like a reality TV show.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
It's not on air anymore, but...
Oh, really?
No, it's over now.
Oh.
All right.
Oh, maybe I can find a clip.
Yeah, you can.
You probably will.
Yeah.
So what we want to tell you, Kanon-san, is after you enter to the university, watch
Tell Us House.
Exactly.
Watch Tell Us House, eat a fuckload of sugar.
No, you didn't say that.
Eat a fuckload of sugar, sleep 17 hours a day.
Yeah.
And you will be deeply regret your days.
And that will teach you something.
Teach you a lesson.
All right, there you go.
Thanks for the message.
Yes.
Bye-bye.
Thank you.
