Kenji Miyazawa was a poet and fairy tale writer who left a significant mark on the world of Japanese literature. His works are known for their unique perspective. He was born in 1896 into a family that ran a pawnshop and secondhand clothing store, and he grew up in a harsh environment marked by crop failures and famines. In 1914, upon graduating from Iwate Prefectural Morioka High School, he was deeply moved by the Lotus Sutra, and he remained a devoted believer in it throughout his life. His religious faith had a profound influence on his poetry and stories, and his works are recognized as a distinctive presence in Japanese literature.
