A 31-year-old Vietnamese man has been arrested for fraudulently using Mebuku Pay, an electronic local currency operated by Maebashi City. According to police, the man conspired with his accomplices to illegally obtain the credit card information of a woman in her 60s living in Kiryu City in December of last year. He is suspected of using that information to fraudulently charge a total of 116,000 yen to her Mebuku Pay account over 13 separate occasions.
Mebuku Pay, the company that operates the currency, confirmed the damage and contacted police in December of last year.
The man has reportedly denied the charges.
