A man was killed when a dump truck collided with a utility pole in Minakami Town.
At around AM on the 20th, a dump truck ran off the road on National Route 17 in Sarugakyo Onsen, Minakami Town, knocking over utility poles and streetlights, and overturning.
The driver, Nagashima Susumu of Saitama Prefecture, sustained severe injuries all over his body in the accident and was confirmed dead.
The dump truck was traveling from Niigata Prefecture towards Numata City when it was unable to make a left turn, crashing through the guardrail and into the utility pole.
