Ota Police Station has rearrested a 19-year-old unemployed man with no fixed address on suspicion of refund fraud.
The man conspired with his accomplices and called an 85-year-old woman around 10 am on June 19th, posing as a financial institution employee, and lied to her, saying "Your refund is due" and "Your cash card is old and needs to be replaced", and then tricked her into giving up one card.
A total of 1 million yen was withdrawn from the woman's card, and the loss was discovered the next day when the financial institution contacted the woman to confirm.
The man has admitted to the charges, and had already been arrested on suspicion of fraud in June for defrauding another woman of her deposit passbook and other items.
