Kusatsu-Shirane Volcano: Alert Level Raised to 2 Near Yugama Crater

The eruption alert level for the Yugama area of Mount Kusatsu-Shirane has been raised from level 1 to level 2. The Japan Meteorological Agency has restricted access within approximately one kilometer of the crater, citing the need for caution regarding large volcanic rocks.

Crustal movement has been confirmed since around June last year, and volcanic earthquakes have increased near the Yugama area, with 40 having been observed by the morning of the 4th.
