At around 12:50 pm on the 1st, a 90-year-old man who was hiking in Oze National Park in Katashina Village slipped about 20 meters down a snowy slope. The man was rescued by a Gunma Prefecture disaster prevention helicopter and taken to a hospital in Maebashi City, but he had broken his head and neck and was later confirmed dead.
According to the police, the accident occurred on the snow about 600 meters north of the entrance to the mountain, Hatomata Pass, when the man strayed from the hiking route and was climbing up the slope to return to the original route.
Numata Police Station is investigating the exact cause of the accident.
