Around 8:00 AM on the 11th, a fire broke out at the home of a 76-year-old man in Otashi, completely burning down the wooden, single-story house measuring approximately 60 square meters. Part of the wall of a vacant house on the property also burned, and the man suffered minor burns to his right hand.
According to Ota Police Station, the man lived alone, and lit candles on the Buddhist altar around 7:00 AM, lit incense, and then left the scene. A short time later, he noticed a burning smell and discovered the altar on fire.
