At around 12:40pm on the 13th, a beach house employee called 119 to report that an elementary school boy had drowned and was unconscious at Naoetsu Beach in Joetsu City, Niigata Prefecture.

A second-grade boy from Oizumi Town drowned and was taken to the hospital, but is still unconscious and in critical condition.

According to the Joetsu Coast Guard, the boy started playing in the sea with a relative child of the same age around 10am,
