Cases of severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome (SFTS), a viral infection transmitted by ticks that live in fields and mountains, are being reported one after another across the country.
According to the National Institute for Health Risk Management, the cumulative number of patients this year was 161 as of the end of September,
the highest number since the first infection was reported in Japan in 2013.
