いわゆる高級ホテルで
夜勤をしています。

入ることもあるのですが、
ここ最近主に中国語圏からの
インバウンドのお客様がかなり多く
留学経験があり
多少英語が話せる私は
気が付けば朝食の間
お客様と日本語を話さず退勤することも
増えました。
お料理は和食でコースのように
一品ずつ提供、説明するのですが、
まず和食を英語で説明することの
難易度が高いのはもちろん、
お料理提供前や
空いたお皿を下げるとき、
お水やお茶のおかわりを聞くとき
などの前に日本語では必ず言う
失礼いたします。
の最適な英語表現が見つからず
モヤモヤしながら日本語で
失礼しますと言っています。
なるほど。試験でおなじみの
May I come in?は
Yes please と言ってもらわないと入れない
イメージでしっくりこず。
Excuse me もちょっとどいての
イメージが強く、これも違うような気がするので、
何か最適な
最適な表現があれば教えていただきたいです。
席はカウンターと
個室があり、個室はノックして
失礼いたしますと言ってから扉を
開けるというのが一連のお作法になっています。

I feel like that's okay if you're only going to do it once.
If you're going to do it five times,
I feel like that's too much
if you do it every time.
You're saying sorry, but you're
doing it multiple times, right?
I feel like, right,
your words, the message,
and your action don't match, right?
You're literally apologizing
every time.
So it feels like it's too much.

And I like that, your phrase,
like you guys enjoying the meal and things like that.

being out of my bag.
He was like,
he picked it up.
Excuse me, you dropped this.
It was, yeah.
It was very nice.
I was happy that he said that to me.
It was very nice.
At the same time,
there was zero hesitation.
Like, oh, maybe this person
doesn't know English.
Not even a slight hint
of like,
oh, maybe this person,
maybe there's a Japanese
for excuse me.
Maybe I should say something.
It's okay.
I feel like this person's going to change
even if he grows up to an adult.

hey man, you dropped your 100 yen.
Hey, you don't speak English?
It's in Japan, right?
Even from a kid, I felt the fact that
you should speak my language
because I'm an American.
I felt that.

in the United States,

I think I would try to speak English.
