私は小学5年生の息子と幼稚園生の娘の母です。
主人と私自身の仕事の関係で、子供たちを連れて年に2回ほど渡米し、ジョージア州に年間合計2ヶ月ほど滞在する生活をここ3年ほど続けております。

小学生の息子は現地でも友達ができて英語にも興味を持つようになってきたのですが、そんな息子が新学期を迎えた学校から帰ってきて、日本の学校から帰ってきて、ALTの先生が変わったんだけどさ、インドから来たって言ってて、で、今日の授業の内容が挨拶だったから先生がハローって言ってきたのね。
それで僕はハローって答えたんだよね。そしたら、違う、ハローの返答はハーイだって言われてさ、ハローの返答ってハローじゃダメなの?ハーイじゃなきゃって決まりなんてあるの?インドではそうなのかな?と聞かれました。
今の学校ではこんな感じで教育をしているのか?それともこの先生独特の考え方なのか?はたまたハローの返答は本当にハーイしかダメだという決まりが私の知らない間にできていたのか?
いずれにしても子供には学校のテストの時はそう答えなさいと伝え、ハローの返答はママの知る限りではハローでも大丈夫だと思うよ。だからアメリカに行った時はそんなこと気にしないでみんなと気軽に挨拶していいからねと伝えました。
ハローの返答にハーイ以外はダメなんてことあるのでしょうか?また現地の小学生同士ではどんな感じで挨拶しているのか教えていただけたら幸いです。

So, okay, yeah, you don't, do you feel, for example, you say, you meet, let's say, I'm
your colleague, or your tori shikisaki guy, or whatever, in your school, and you say hello
to me, and if I say hello, and then I say hello, do you feel, like, not connected?
You feel the distance between me and you, or?
If that guy was, like, at a 100% native speaker, with the right tone, I might feel distant.
I might feel, like, ooh, this person's not ready to, he's not with me to sort of connect.

So he has, so this teacher, kind of, partially, kind of right.
Yeah, from my perspective, I'm never, I'm not a teacher, so I can't really speak for
him, but from my perspective, I don't, yeah, he's partially right.
If somebody says hello to you, and the most natural way of replying is, hi.

But you're not saying, hello, hello, is the wrong answer.

was a solo female person on the elevator, that's like a little younger than me.
