突然ですが、日本の祝日と英語のホリデイ、ホリデイズってなんか違うと思いませんか?
私の友人でとっても気のいいアメリカ人のおじさまがいるのですが、その人はいつも日本の祝日にメッセージを送ってきてくれます。

ハッピー子供の日。
などはまだわかるのですが、
ハッピー春分の日。
ハッピー山の日。

ハッピー春分の日と言われたら、今はハッピー春分の日と返しているのですが、もっといい返し方があれば知りたいです。

So, I think this is an outcome of the difference in the culture of the word holiday between US and Japan, right?

Holiday is more like, it's more like Christmas, you know?

That's kind of like the holiday.

It's more like, it's not, you're not calling it 休日。
During the holiday season, it doesn't mean your work is all the way off, right?

It's just around that season, around that holiday season where it's joyful.
You meet your family.
It's happy time.
That's kind of the connotation around the word holiday, right?
It's just, the connotation is stronger.
It's more like, they're kind of like, it's attached to happy, fun, love is kind of the message that the word holiday gives out.
Whereas Japan is just, it's just a category of the day, right?
It's just the red calendar day.
That's it.
That's it.
No work.

Really not that much emotion attached to it, right?
日本の休日と祝日
It's happy, but like, not because it's a 新聞の日, right?

So that's different.
It's a holiday, 休日.
Right?

Well, in Japan, we have like certain days that you celebrate too.
Like お正月。
お正月, yeah.
Sure.

That's like, happy お正月, that makes sense.
Or like, you know, like 子供の日,桃の節句, those are like more like a celebrative 休みの日,
祝日.
But like 山の日, or like 海の日, those things are just kind of, kind of like a, just
people made it, kind of.
Yeah.
Now, the question is, why did someone in Japan make 山の日?
Yeah.
And then make that a 休日?
Right.
Because originally, that was like a birthday of like emperors, or like those.
Oh, I see.
They've got a reason, for sure.
Oh, okay.
And it turns into like things like that.
I see.
But like, for like, in general, like, we don't, so we can celebrate, of course, because,
you know, if that's the history behind it, you can celebrate that.

But like, it's more like becoming more general, just like a day off.

In modern culture, right?

That's how it's perceived.

You just have to make him understand that the culture of the word holiday is different.
