Hi, I'm Koba Yasu. This is Carpe Diem Seize the day. I'll be mumbling my thoughts in daily life.
In this episode, I'd like to talk about two things. One is about the importance of having principle.
And second is that what is my principle. The first importance of having principle.
Having principle is important, I think. I especially see values in thoughts
that all Japanese had in early 1900s. Today, August 15th, is the day that Pacific war ended in Japan.
I'm not an advocate of war, but I would like to say prayers for the fallen who sacrificed themselves.
In Japan, we do not have the Memorial Day like in the U.S., but I personally think
that August 15th is Memorial Day. Last week, I saw a documentary film called 442 Live with Honor, Die with Dignity.
I will put the link of the page referring about this documentary film.
Well, the 442nd Regiment Combat Team was, quote, as a fighting unit composed almost entirely of
second generation American soldiers of Japanese ancestry, Nisei, who fought in World War II, unquote.
In this film, Daniel Inoue, who was a service in the 442nd during World War II, and also the
senator for the United States, mentioned about talks between his members, quote,

What did you think at the night before the first attack? Everyone said same answer, which are,
I hope I do not dishonor to my family. I hope I do not being ashamed.
I hope my family not ashamed. Honor is very important. To bring shame to family is unbearable,
unquote. That was their principle as Japanese Nisei. Watching this film,
I felt the importance of having principle in yourself. That leads to my second topic,
in this episode. What is my principle? Looking back myself, what is my principle? I thought for a
while and it came up to me was that the, do the right thing or do the ethically right thing.
There are many values I respect, but I thought it all comes to do the right thing.
Having watched this documentary film, it gave me a good chance to reflect into myself,
and it resulted to think about my value. It was a good time. In this episode, I shared about
the documentary film, 442, that was honor, that was dignity, and what and how did the American
soldiers of Japanese ancestry, Nisei, have as their principle. I also shared my reflection
to search my principle, which is do the ethically right thing. Thank you for listening. See you next
