Zatsudan Room with Taiki. Welcome back to my podcast and thank you for tuning in again. I'm Taiki.
So, it's already past 11pm. As December arrives, time seems to move faster each day. Why does it feel that way?
Okay, today, I'd like to talk about きんし or in English, each part of speech.
It might not be familiar to native English speakers. Also, for Japanese people, it's difficult
to explain the difference between が and あ because we understand it by feeling rather than by rules.
While, grammars or each part of speech plays an important role for learners who want to acquire
second, third, fourth languages. So, I'll dive into each part of speech today.
There are seven parts of speech in English. Noun, Verb, Adjective, Adverb, Pronoun, Reposition,
and Conjunction. If you understand the roles of the first four parts of speech,
that's good enough for a noun. Nouns are used to name people, places, things, or ideas in a sentence.
Also, it has roles of subjective, objective, and comes after a preposition like in, on, or with.
For example, the flower is beautiful. In this sentence, the noun is the flower and it has the
role of the subjective. Also, I like music. In this sentence, music is the objective.
Next, a verb is the heart of the sentence because it tells us what is happening.
For example, I run in the park every day. In this sentence, run shows an action.
Also, I feel happy. In this sentence, feel shows a state of being.
Third, an adjective tells us what kind of noun it is. For example, you can see a beautiful flower.
In this sentence, beautiful is an adjective and it gives more information about a noun.
Also, the sentence, she looks happy. In this sentence, the word happy describes
our state of heart. If you understand the difference nouns, verbs, and adjectives,
you can create sentences by following English sentence patterns.

Lastly, an adverb modifies a verb, an adjective, and another adverb. For learners who learn English
again, you sometimes get confused between adjectives and adverbs. For example, I study
English very hard. In this sentence, there are two adverbs, very and hard. Very modifies heart,
and hard modifies study. Also, this bag is very durable.
In this sentence, very modifies durable, the adjective word.
For adults, understanding the rules of the first four parts of speech leads to improve your overall English skill.
When you relearn English grammar, please keep this in mind along with the previous episode.
Okay, so I will pick up one or two responses to explain, but this might be boring for my listeners.
Also, I want to talk about another topic, just a casual topic.
I'm going to Tokyo and I'll stay for two days to meet my colleagues and my friends.
I have worked remotely for one and a half a year, so I've hardly ever met my colleagues in person.
Most of my time in Tokyo is taken up by work, though. I'm hoping to visit a few places I want to
go to in my spare time. Apparently, the flu is spreading in Tokyo, so I'll be extra careful.
I'd rather not get sick. So, today's episode is very short, maybe. That's all for today's episode.
If you have any comments or questions, please feel free to reach out through Google Form in the
description. Thank you for listening until the end. This is Taiki Arai.
