入院準備と必要なもの
Welcome to Kevin's English Room Podcast.
Hello, hello.
So, I've never been to...
I've never been hospitalized for...
Okay.
...like the new-ing before.
What are you preparing for the days?
What are the things that you have to do?
So, one of the things that the doctor told me was to bring change.
Bring change, bring towel, bring skin care.
Skin care?
Yeah.
個室の特徴
So, okay.
In hospitals, in general, you have like shower rooms?
Yeah, you have shower rooms.
You do 洗面所, mat, toilet, you know, all of that.
I guess that depends on if you reserve the 個室, or a shared room, like with four other patients.
I went for the 個室.
So, there's different grades, levels of like quality in the 個室.
If you go for a higher one, there's shower.
In the room?
Yeah.
Okay.
If you go for a cheaper one, it's a shared shower.
So, you reserve a spot.
Like, I want to go there at 6 p.m., and then they'll be like, oh, yeah, it's open, go ahead.
Yeah, that's kind of it.
Okay, that's how it works.
Okay.
And I think every 個室 has a TV and a fridge.
And a fridge.
Yeah, you can use it anytime.
Okay.
Yeah.
But you cannot eat the things you...
It's not like...
Yeah, I can't.
Like, because I'm doing the 直腸 surgery.
But for other, like, just digestion-unrelated people...
Like, broken leg.
Yeah, for those people, they can eat anything they want, I guess, you know.
So, they can use the fridge.
Cakes in a fridge.
Yeah, yeah, sure.
Whatever, man.
Yeah, I think, yeah.
I see.
Yeah.
So, other than that, I'm not...
They didn't tell me anything about it.
Yeah.
I don't have to do anything.
Right.
Okay.
You have to bring your change.
Right, I have to bring change.
I have to bring...
Like, laundry?
They have...
Yeah, they have washing machines.
Washing machines.
So, yeah.
You can do that.
So, I can do that.
That's it.
Yeah.
It's actually not that big of a...
Like, I don't have to do anything, like, huge.
Okay, you just go and...
That's right.
Right.
Okay.
Like, table at a barbecue, you know?
You just go and...
With a pink...
Yeah, like that.
I see.
Yeah.
食事とその制限
And all the meals are controlled?
Yes.
And...
Yeah.
Look up to you.
They're controlled.
Yeah.
Looking forward to having them?
Like...
You know...
So, one thing I'm worried about is I can't eat anything.
Yeah.
Or in total, like, six days straight.
I can't...
Yeah.
Okay.
I have to live six days straight with just tenteki.
So, that I'm a little bit scared.
Like, what if my body weight drops drastically?
Yeah.
Or my muscle just disappears.
I'm a little bit scared of that.
Yeah, I mean, don't worry about muscles.
You can regain everything.
Don't worry about it.
What if it's all gone, right?
Yeah, I mean, focus on what's inside.
入院中の過ごし方
I've muscle trained since college.
What if it's all gone?
Don't worry.
You have 20, 30 years from now, so...
Yeah.
Yeah, I understand that, yeah.
I did ask the doctor, like, hey, can I do some training?
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
And the doctor was like, well, you can.
Oh.
Just don't make sudden movements.
Like, if it's, like, slow and steady thing, it's okay.
Just don't, like, do, like, instant, like...
That could be dangerous.
Okay.
Just slow things?
Yeah, just slow and gradual pressuring, that's okay.
Okay.
So, you can bring dumbbells.
You can bring, I don't know, like, heavy things, maybe?
Yeah, yeah.
It's possible, but I'm not going to.
I'm not going to.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Do so.
But I do need to prepare things that I'm going to do while being hospitalized.
True.
Because I can't just sit there the whole day.
That's going to fucking make me crazy.
Are you going to, like, sit or, like, lay down?
Yeah, lay down in bed, like the usual, like, the normal hospital bed, you know?
The one you see?
Yeah.
I'm just going to sit there 24-7.
That's...
Right.
So, if I don't prepare anything, I'm just going to sit there for two weeks.
That is going to make me fucking crazy.
That is.
Yeah, you cannot eat, you cannot drink.
Yeah, I can't do anything.
True.
That is pretty crazy.
And you don't have, like, a guy or somebody...
I don't have anyone.
Right?
You're alone in the hospital.
Oh, no!
Right.
So, that's one of the reasons I kind of hesitated.
Maybe I should go in those shared rooms with the four other patients because I could be, like, fucking paralyzed.
Like, I could go into, like, fucking mental state of, like, weird.
But, like, there was also this possibility of what if the other patients were, like, fucking, like, weirdos?
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
And just fucking, like, that could be a risk, too.
True.
So, I was like, I'd rather just be alone and avoid facing very, like, stressful...
Right, depending on the...
You know, everybody has, like, situations.
Yeah.
Using medicines and everything.
Right.
Yeah.
So, like, I decided to take the risk of just being alone and figuring that out.
Yeah.
Right.
So, what I did was I rented a VR headset.
Okay, okay.
You already rented it.
Yes, I already rented it.
Okay.
I'm planning on visiting places around the world with VR.
Nice, nice.
That's one.
Nice.
You can bring anything?
Yeah, I can bring anything.
Laptop?
Yeah, I can bring laptop.
Anything.
Yeah.
Anything.
So, yeah.
I am a little bit worried, though.
Of what?
Like, what if the nurses come while I'm in the VR?
I might look a little bit weird.
Creepy, though.
I'm sure they've never had anyone with a VR headset while hospitalized.

So, I'm worried about that.
Yeah.
But I'd rather enjoy my time.
Yeah, that's better.
You know, than worrying about what people might give me, so.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Yeah.
That's better.
I'm going to do that.
So, that's definitely one thing I'm going to do.
I'm also going to bring my Nintendo Switch.
Oh, yeah.
Video game.
Okay.
I'm going to buy Zelda.
Okay.
Yeah.
So, you can do that, like, you can do that, like, whole day if you want to.
Right.
Childhood dream, right?
Video gaming all day.
Yeah.
So, I'm going to do that.
Yeah, I'm going to bring my laptop, you know, maybe do a little bit of work.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
If I can.
But that's it, though.
That's all I got.
Yeah, like, all of those, like, physical...
Activities, right?
Yeah.
You can do that?
I can walk, though.
Oh, you can walk.
Okay.
Yeah.
If anything, I'm advised to walk.
Oh, okay.
As much as I can.
I don't know how this works, but it makes it faster.
The recovery makes it faster if I walk.
I don't know why, but the doctor said that, so, yeah.
But I have to walk with a nurse.
So that's, like, that's kind of stressful.
Yeah.
Like, I want to be in my...
I mean, if one is, like, very friendly or, like, very good people, then maybe you can
have conversation and just have time together.
Sure.
Or maybe be friends together, but...
Yeah.
You never know.
But, you know, I want to listen to music and walk and just enjoy outside, but, like, no.
It's, like, it's inside the hospital.
Okay.
Yeah, you just walk around the hospital.
The hallways and everything?
Yeah.
Yeah, I see.
So, that's that.
With, I guess, like, tenteki.
That's right.
Kara kara kara kara, right?
That's right.
That's right.
Yeah.
You know, so, that's that.
Yeah.
Well, hopefully your days will be...
Over.
Fast.
Yeah.
Or, like, just days will be fun.
Yeah, right.
You know?
Right.
Not, like, you know, too boring or, like, you know.
I'm going to try to make it as exciting as possible.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
You don't really get to experience hospitalization, right?
So, I'm going to try to get the best out of it.
Yeah.
How big is your, like, koshitsu?
It hasn't been finalized yet.
Oh, okay.
But I think, like, I'm assuming it's, like, the size of an upper hotel.
Okay.
Yeah.
So, it's not...
Not big, big.
Somewhere, like, we, like, three, four guys can come in and just stay together.
Bring all those nebukuros and just...
Oh, that...
No, no, no.
So, the visitors have to leave.
Oh, we have to leave?
They have to leave around a certain time.
They only have, like, yeah, they only have a certain window of, like, you're allowed to come.
入院中の楽しみ方
Can we, like, stay all night and just...
Yeah, they're not allowed to do that.
Do some little nomikai in the room.
There's definitely no alcohol to begin with.
But, yeah, you can't do that, unfortunately.
I know, it would be fun to, like, you know, be in the hospital just at night, just, like, partying.
But, like, yeah, I don't think they'll allow you to do that.
Yeah, it's obvious.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I'm going to try to enjoy it.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Kind of a...
Hopefully a once-in-a-lifetime experience, so...
True.
Try to enjoy it.
True, yeah.
All right, so thanks for listening, guys.
Thank you.
Bye-bye.
