Welcome to Kevin's English Room Podcast.
Hello.
Hello, guys.
You cut your hair?
I don't think... I can't take showers during hospitalization.
So, I was like, I'll cut it short.
Yeah.
Make things easier.
Cleaner.
Yeah.
I even thought about, like, maybe going, like, near bald.
Because that makes it easier.
But, like, I thought that was going to, like, give a little bit of a confusion of, like, cancer and baldness.
And be like, oh, is Kevin okay?
So, like, I just thought I'd do it.
Yeah.
Yeah, I can imagine why.
So...
This one?
Yup.
USBの説明と関連語
Okay, this is from Momosuke-san.
Okay.
毎日欠かさず楽しみにポッドキャスト聞かせてもらっています。
Thank you.
本当にありがとうございます。
先日ふとUSBって何だろうと思い調べると、
Universal Serial Bus
Pronounce the same, same pronunciation, but both meanings are very common, so like people
can understand in context of like if they're talking about the breakfast or like the cereal
number cereal.
Yeah.
So, yeah, that's very common.
So, if they say like USB, universal cereal bus, then they'll know that the word cereal
is probably not the breakfast cereal.
Yeah.
They'll know.
Right.
That's for sure.
Yeah.
True.
So, like, the number, that's kind of common in Japanese.
Right.
That's true.
We say cereal number.
Yeah.
Yeah.
That's like from, I don't know, 0001 to 5, like it's...
Yeah.
Right.
Cereal.
It comes from, I think it comes from the series, right?
Like season one, season two.
Yeah.
Those are all series, right?
So, like, cereal.
Right.
And cereal, serial killer.
We say that in America, like serial killer.
Yeah.
Suspense, crime scene, like serial killer.
Yeah.
It kills a lot of people in a row, that's cereal too.
So, yeah.
Right.
Cereal.
Yeah.
Cereal.
Cereal.
What else in Japanese do we say in that meaning?
Cereal.
Cereal.
But only cereal code, right?
Yeah.
Can you imagine?
Cereal number.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
UNIQLOの発音に関する考察
Completely random question, but if you were to say Uniqlo in English, do you think it's
Uniqlo or Uniqlo?
Uniqlo.
No?
I thought it's Uniqlo.
So, the reason why is it's the word unique, right?
Yeah.
So, if you think they're implying the word unique in there, if it's that, then it's uniqlo,
right?
Yeah, uniqlo.
But it's written like U-N-I, so it's not like unique, uniqlo, right?
How it's written?
U-N-I.
Okay.
Uniqlo.
I like this.
Okay.
U-N-I-Q-L-O.
Yeah.
How do you pronounce this, like without thinking anything?
You just see those words.
Uniqlo.
Uniqlo.
I would say uniqlo.
Yeah.
So, right, from the spelling, I guess it doesn't imply that it's unique.
Uniqlo.
Rather, like the uni, as in like unified uni, like the one, one uni.
So, if that's that, then it's definitely uniqlo.
Yeah.
Yeah.
True.
Yeah, but if you know that the meaning behind everything, people can say like uniqlo.
Right.
Maybe.
Unique clothes.
Uniqlo.
Uniqlo.
Oh.
Yeah.
What is the origin of the word uniqlo?
Like how did the, what's the meaning behind it, right?
You know?
Uniqlo?
Isn't it like unique closet?
No?
Oh, unique closet?
Yeah.
That's what I...
I don't know that.
But I'm not sure.
That's what I...
I've been thinking.
Yeah.
Oh, yeah.
It's from unique clothing warehouse.
Oh, I didn't know that.
Unique clothing warehouse, uniqlo.
So it's...
Uniqlo.
Uniqlo.
Uniqlo.
Uniqlo.
Uniqlo.
Uniqlo.
Uniqlo.
Uniqlo.
Uniqlo.
Uniqlo.
Uniqlo.
Uniqlo.
Uniqlo.
Uniqlo.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Oh.
I still don't know.
But I heard some people saying like uniqlo.
Oh, uniqlo?
Uniqlo.
Yeah.
That makes sense too.
Yeah.
UNIQLOのイントネーションについて
That makes sense too though.
If you only read the words then...
It is, you're right.
Uniqlo.
Uniqlo.
Yeah.
Nice.
But it's not totally wrong if you say uniqlo.
Yeah.
Because I heard a lot of people say uniqlo.
Oh, uniqlo?
Oh, yeah.
Right.
All right.
So, I don't know about that.
But...
Okay.
Thanks for sitting guys.
Thank you.
Bye.
