Welcome to Kevin's English Room Podcast.
Hello.
親切な看護師たち
We talked to you a lot about the struggles and the difficulties of being hospitalized and after hospitalized.
But there were several many bright and positive and great moments while I was being hospitalized.
And I'll tell you about that.
First and foremost, the people.
The nurses were so kind.
The nurses were just so cheerful.
They were so caring.
Very positive, thoughtful.
They were very nice people.
Very nice people.
The lunch lady was nice.
The cleaning uncle was so nice.
I had on my favorite anime right now, Kimetsu no Yaiba.
Look at that.
It's Kimetsu no Yaiba.
It's so funny.
Did you see it?
The movie is amazing.
I love this anime.
Congratulations, man.
You'll feel great probably.
You did a good job.
Thank you.
I'm so happy, man.
When I couldn't take a shower, they cleaned my body for me.
I couldn't move, right?
They were so kind.
Let me move your body like this a little bit.
Are you not in pain? Are you okay?
They're so kind.
So kind.
That's number one.
Star players of the hospital, I would say.
Star players.
That's good.
I need to feel that.
That's one delight.
Another delight would be...
病院食の楽しみ
Well, the hospital food was actually not that bad.
I mean, even though the first several meals were ryudoushoku,
it was just ekitai.
Okay.
Kind of soup?
Yeah, soup-ish thing.
Probably because I had nothing to eat.
I couldn't eat for seven days, six days, seven days.
The joy of that was included as well.
But, you know, it tasted great.
And after the ryudoushoku, I started going back to normal food.
You know, kokeibutsu.
Yeah, I mean, pretty good.
You know, I even felt like some of them were too salty.
Oh, really?
I did, I did.
Wow.
Probably because I had nothing to eat for seven days,
my palate was fucking like...
But still.
But still, I mean, it was tasty.
I mean, if you enjoy that, that's good.
I was so thankful to have food.
That was great.
I mean, I was so happy.
The moment, you know, I first drank water.
I was so happy, man.
Yeah, so the moment I got back to the normal kokeibutsu,
now you can go to 7-Eleven and buy anything you want.
I was so happy, man.
What did you buy?
I bought a tonyuu.
I didn't want to go for nothing too crazy.
I don't want to go for karaage or anything like that.
I knew that was too bad for me.
I see.
So I went for tonyuu.
I drink tonyuu every day.
Okay.
So I went...
Did you enjoy that?
It was so good.
So good?
It was so good.
That was joyful?
Yeah.
夜のロビーでの出来事
One night, I was like around midnight, I couldn't sleep.
I went to this lobby where there was the huge window.
Yeah.
It's a free lobby.
It's open 24 hours.
Okay.
And people come in, maybe do a phone call, you know, maybe do work,
maybe do some refreshments, shit.
Anyone can use it.
Yeah.
I was there alone, right, and looking out the window, as always.
This grandma came.
Okay.
This grandma came with the gara gara, right, and walking very slow.
Yeah.
You know, she sat down.
She started calling her husband, right, on the speakers, right, probably.
And it was alone, just me and her.
She's on the speakers with her husband and, like, just, you know,
doing the everyday calling, you know.
I could overhear her, right, you know.
It was so loud.
And I was like,
I was calling him, and the ojisan was like,
Oh, the conversation was, I was, I almost cried.
I literally, I didn't cry, but, like, I almost cried.
So touching.
It was so touching, man.
It was so fucking touching.
And I was like, the ojisan was like,
I was like,
Oh, so touching.
So touching.
It was like, it was like pure love.
I mean, it was so, I mean, that I got to hear that conversation, you know,
in the hospital was so heartwarming.
I was so joyful, you know, so joyful.
Yeah.
So pure love, you know, pure love, pure.
I mean, I would probably never able to hear that kind of conversation anywhere else,
you know, like hospitals really kind of, you know,
really extreme situation where, you know, love does really come out, you know.
So, yeah, the fact that I was able to experience that, you know,
right next to her kind of was very, a big moment, you know.
Very joyful moment.
Yeah.
Yeah.
That's a good story.
It's a good story, right?
Yeah.
Good story.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So that was great.
Yeah.
Other good moments.
隠れて外出した冒険
I sneaked out the hospital once.
Yeah.
I actually went to Shingokubo.
Okay.
It was a, I think it was like an hour and a half minute of a walk.
It was kind of near my de-hospitalization date.
Okay.
So I was kind of like, kind of fully recovered, like, you know.
Were you allowed to do that?
No.
No.
Absolutely not.
Well, like I did.
Okay.
Okay.
It was like, and like, you know,
and like, after like an hour and like 20 minutes, like 10 minutes before I got back,
I noticed there was a phone call from the hospital.
My phone.
Okay.
And I was like, shit.
And I slowly turned my phone off.
Yeah.
I didn't answer.
I was like, you know, it was like, it was only 10 minutes before I got back to the hospital.
So I was like, I'm going to go back.
Okay.
Just pretend that I was in 7-Eleven.
And I got back.
But they were like, it was okay.
It was nothing.
They were like, hey, the doctor was, the nurse was like, hey, sorry, we had to call you.
The doctor said that you had to go take some CT scan or something like that.
And you were in your room.
So we had, I'm sorry we called you, but just go to the CT scan.
It's okay.
So it wasn't like, they were like, hey, Kevin's not here.
Where the fuck is he?
It wasn't like that.
That was fun.
It was really fun.
Yeah.
Yeah.
To be able to sneak out.
Sneak out.
入院中の体験
Yeah.
It was fun.
That's that.
So you could stroll around the night hospital.
Yeah, I could.
I could.
I mean, I mean, you know, I was adjusted to that waking up at 6am, sleeping at 9pm.
So I wasn't that awake at night.
I see.
So I didn't walk around the night hospital that often, but I could.
I did it once.
I mean, it wasn't like, it wasn't dark.
Okay.
It wasn't dark.
Yeah.
It was like half lit.
I see.
I mean, the nurses were still all there.
So like, it was half lit.
Yeah.
Okay.
Yeah.
So other than that, oh, some of my friends came.
That was great.
Yeah.
I heard that from the English speaking girl.
Oh, yeah.
Yes.
Yes.
Yes.
So that's great.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Great.
Great.
Great.
Your wife came.
My wife came?
Yeah.
Thank you.
Thank you, wife.
Was the doctor a good guy?
Yeah, doctor was an average kind of guy.
Wasn't too good, you know.
Yeah.
Very, you know, very professional.
Yeah.
Very professional.
They should be.
Yeah.
Shouldn't be like, I don't know, like too joyful.
Yeah.
Yeah.
That's right.
Yeah.
That's right.
Very like...
Clever.
Yeah.
Cool.
That's right.
That's nice.
Nice.
Yeah.
Anything else?
Did you really not use the VR?
I mean, I usually had that before the surgery.
Before the surgery, yeah.
You know, I was hospitalized two days before, right?
So during that, I was, you know, fully energized.
I did the thing.
Yeah.
But the Wi-Fi was so weak, I couldn't really download anything.
Nice.
It was not really worth it.
Yeah.
Not worth it.
So, yeah, but I guess those are some of the great delights that I had.
Yeah.
Yeah.
You know?
Very...
The people, and especially the grandma, grandpa started out, very touching.
Yeah, I know.
That was a moment.
Yeah.
That was really a moment, man.
Really a moment.
Yeah.
Like in those like very, very tough situations, you can feel the real things.
Right.
Right.
Right.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
That's a...
I mean, I cannot say that's a good, like that's an opportunity.
I cannot say like that, but you see what I mean?
It's a special...
Right.
It's one of the rare moments in life where you get to feel like raw emotion, real love,
and human connections.
Right, right, right.
That's really important.
It is.
It is.
Absolutely.
Yeah.
One of the nurses, very kind nurse, wrote a note saying that, hey, you have four days
left.
I know it's tough.
Yeah.
But I hope it's close to your birthday.
I hope you get out there before your birthday.
Yeah.
I'm rooting for you.
It was so kind.
Yeah, they left a memo.
Okay.
Yeah.
Oh, nice.
It was so nice.
Lovely.
Lovely.
Right.
You celebrated your birthday at your home.
Your house, right?
入院中の思い出
Oh, yeah.
That's right.
That's right.
That's good.
That was the house though.
That's good.
That's good.
That's great.
That's great.
So, yep.
That's it.
Yeah, I mean, it's difficult.
Like, I cannot say like that was a great...
Yeah.
I mean...
Right, the comments are a little bit hard to...
Yeah, I mean...
Right.
It's not great, first of all.
I understand.
But...
Right.
It was a beautiful moment.
Yeah, but those stories are very beautiful.
Very good stories.
That's right.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And I get to treasure them for the rest of my life.
Yeah.
So, that's great.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Oh, nice.
All right.
So, there you go.
Great moments.
Great moment.
Yeah.
Beautiful.
Beautiful moment.
Yeah.
Life.
Yeah.
All right.
So, thanks for listening, guys.
Thank you.
Bye-bye.
