京都の交通手段
Welcome to Kevin's English Room Podcast.
So about the Kyoto. Yes.
This station was where I was living. Okay. This is it. Okay. It's kind of close to the
steak shop. The one that you told me? Yeah. Okay. Yeah. I was living here. Okay. So I recommend
this. Well, I don't recommend this. So if you, you're gonna walk. Yeah, I can walk. I can train.
Yeah. Train. Train or walk. I don't really. Okay. Okay. If you have a bike, the 車輪,
that's the best. Okay. I don't think that's gonna happen. Oh, yeah. Or bus. Bus? Yeah. How come?
Because trains are, they just have one train line and two train lines.
Or three. But if you want to go like here or there. Okay. It's kind of. So for example,
if you go, if you, if you're around here, Gion, it's kind of difficult to just walk until the
train station and just take, you have to like go that way. And then it's, it's kind of very
sometimes. Oh, got it. So there's not much stations. Yeah. So lines are very limited. I
see. So it's basically, it's very, if you go north or south, east, west. I see. So if you
have like precise places to go, it's better using bus or, yeah. Bike is the best, but
um, and cars too. Oh, dangerous. Like the roads is very narrow and I don't know what to drive
through. Oh, okay. So yeah. Bus maybe. Got it. Yeah. So I guess bus would be the best option.
サンジョウ通りの魅力
Right. Right. Or taxi if you want. Or taxi. Okay. Yeah. Um, so, um, the street,
um, Sanjo, Sanjo-dori. Sanjo-dori. Is here. Okay. That's what I recommend. Recommend. Walk
through. Got it. Is there only one Sanjo-dori? Yes. Okay. Yes. Got it. Wait, is that close to
Demachi Yanagi? Or is that a completely different place? Um, so Sanjo-dori is like west,
from west to east road. Okay. So if you go like Sanjo, like here. Okay. So this is the Sanjo-dori.
Okay. Uh, this is it. If you go like east end, it's kind of close to Demachi Yanagi. Oh, okay. But,
um, you, you should, maybe you should take, I don't know, train or bus to go to Demachi Yanagi
because it's kind of, if you walk, it's like, I don't know, 30 minutes, 20 minutes. Oh,
cause it's going to be a big walk. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Got it. So even though it is kind of close,
yeah, I guess it's better to get, right. Right. Right. Right. The bus or something. Okay. But
Sanjo-dori is very fun to walk around, walk through. What's, what's there? Um,
what's good about Sanjo-dori? Very small shops, restaurants. Got it. Small, um, but good quality.
Okay. Closed shop, um, cafes, restaurants, izakayas, and everything. Got it. Um, and,
and then like, it has very good vibe. I understand what you're talking about. Yeah. Okay. Especially
if you go, um, to like east side of the Sanjo-dori. Okay. So, um, so basically Kyoto is, you have,
um, you have like this Karasuma-dori, that's like from north to south. Okay. It's, it's like the
京都の観光スポット
very central road. Okay. The very main vertical road. Yes. Yes. And also you have Karasuma-dori,
that's like from. Horizontal, big horizontal road. Big one. Yeah. And those two roads are,
you should know, it's like the, everything is explained by that. Got it. Two roads. Oh,
got it. Okay. Yeah. So Sanjo is kind of one way up from, um, Shijo-dori. Which is the vertical
main one. Yes. Yes. That's four. And Sanjo is like one north, one northern than Shijo. Okay. Like
Shijo, Sanjo, Nijo. Oh, okay. That's how it works. Okay. So, um, especially the east side
of Sanjo-dori from this Karasuma one, this area. That's, that's good. That's good. Okay. They've
got many little shops, many little everything. Okay. Yeah. So you can walk, walk around,
walk through it. Gotcha. Gotcha. Many things, I guess. That's great. That's great. Nice.
Okay. Here, Ponto-cho. What was that again? Yeah. Ponto-cho? Ponto-cho. You pronounce that
Ponto-cho? Yeah. That's crazy. Yes. Ponto-cho. Oh, yeah. Yeah. It's the name of the street.
It's very, um, good. Aesthetically pleasing. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. I saw the pictures.
That was very aesthetic. Yeah. Yeah. But I don't know the, the crowdedness. I'm not sure about that.
I'm sure it's not as crowded as the, you know, the very popular ones, right? Because I don't,
I've don't, I don't hear these names that much. Oh, yeah. True. On the internet being thrown around.
So. Yeah. Yeah. I think so. Yeah. I think so. I kind of avoid the, the, the crowded places.
Right. Right. Right. Right. That's great. Yeah. That's great. So, you know, you have, um, Gion
district. Yes. That's the, you know, where the Maiko-sans are living in. Yes. I'm aware.
So that's here. Yes. Okay. Around this area. Um, but I guess it's kind of crowded.
Okay. You have like very famous shrines here. So you go a little up, a little northern than that,
northern than Gion district, you find Shirakawa-dori. Shirakawa-dori. Yeah. Okay.
It says Gion Shirakawa. So this is a very good place, but less crowded. Okay. Okay. Okay. I think.
Okay. You, you've got this like a, well, maybe crowded, but still better than the main Gion.
Yeah. But maybe crowded after seeing these videos. Okay. Yeah. Like this.
Oh, okay. Gotcha. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Hope they're not that crowded. Yeah.
Oh, you have Jiro. You have Jiro?
Around here. If you, if you want to. I'm going with my wife, by the way.
Yeah. You think she'll enjoy it? Yeah. Why not? Jiro? Why not? Here. This is called Ichijoji
station. Okay. Yeah. You take, um, Eizan Dentetsu. That's very retro. Um. Well, that's great. The
retro trains are, I'd love to ride in one of those. Sure. So it's from Demachiyanagi station.
Okay. This is the starting point of the, uh, Eizan Dentetsu in Eiden. Um, it's very good,
like very small retro vintage vibe with it. Sure. And you go like, kind of, not like very fast,
京都のラーメンスポット
but like like that. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Up through until Ichijoji. Yeah. Ichijoji station is famous
for ramens. Oh, okay. They've got very famous ramen store around. Oh, okay. They have like
ramen street. Mm-hmm. Like a literal street. Okay. It's not like in some shogyoshitsu. It's
like an actual. It's actual road. Wow. Yeah. So you can go inside and then next.
Really? That, that, do people do that? Yeah. Sometimes. Shit. Yeah. And also, um,
right. Yes. I understand. I see. You should take notes. No, I don't think my keyboard is not
necessary for this, uh, moment right here. Yeah. It's from Rokuji. So you have to be careful about
that. You went there. You went there. Yeah. It was so perfect until you showed me that ramen Jiro.
Who goes to a ramen Jiro on a Kyoto trip with your partner? You should go. You should go.
I mean, is that good? I'm going to ask just for the sake of it. Is that good? Um, yeah,
but not the best. Okay. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. But I have to be honest. Your personal opinion. Yeah.
Not the best. It's very new place. Yeah. It's like when I was in Kyoto, they made this place.
So it's, I went to like two days after the opening, I guess, two, three days. Yeah. Okay.
I was very new. So that's why it's, you know, the taste wasn't that like stable. Oh, right.
That's true. Yeah. So that's why I don't. Personally, you didn't go there again.
But maybe now it's different. Maybe now it's better. I want to know. I want to, I want to
know what's your, what's. Oh, I'm not going to worry about that. Don't worry. I'm not going.
Waiting for that. I didn't think we'd be talking about ramen Jiro all this episode.
But wait, just a quick question. I'm curious. Yeah. Do you know, during when they open their
stores, you know, how majority of the, you know, in Shokuten, they're very
humble. Yeah. Because they're just, they're a newcomer to the community. Right. Right.
Especially Kyoto. You have to respect the community. Absolutely. Yes. I can't imagine.
I've never, you know, been to a, never lived in Kyoto, so I don't know the culture, but I'm sure
it's a very community-based vibe there. When ramen Jiro, ramen Jiro was, you know, infamous for having
a very, you know, certain type of a very aggressive, I would say, aggressive seikyaku style.
Right. Yeah. Well, when they opened their shops in Kyoto and you went there, you,
down day two, what were they like? But they were not the strongest in the Jiro seikyaku.
I see. So they were a little bit like, you know, humble. Yes. I guess. Wow. So it's, I guess it's
like a easier for you too. Yeah. I guess it is easier for me, but I'm not going, don't worry
about it. I'm not, I'm not going to go there. Okay. Yeah. Yeah. But they did still have that
Jiro vibe. Yes. Yes. Like people were like, but, but they don't have a culture though, right? Like
ラーメン二郎の独自体験
each store has their own style of like, Hey, you have to line up like this. You have to get the
shoken first or something. They don't have that. Right. Yeah. I guess they're building that.
And I guess the PEEP customers there, they, they're, they all start fresh. So they don't have
like that newcomer. Right. Right. You can be, that's amazing. It's already four or five years
since it's. So I guess, I guess now they have their own like hierarchy of customers, but like
when you went there, I'm sure it must've been, everyone's a newcomer. When I went there, like
nobody knows how to do that. Like, can I get in or like where to line up? And we were kind of.
We were all just like checking up on each other. Oh, that's great. It's great.
That's something that's rare. Right. Right. That's rare. Maybe you can experience that
still today. I'm sure. I'm sure it's not. I'm sure. I'm sure the people there, I'm sure the
Jiro people are fast on colonizing their shops. Yeah. All right. Thanks for listening guys.
