Welcome to Kevin's English Room Podcast!
Hello!
So, we got a message.
All right.
100% compliment.
Nothing yummy.
Confidence.
Is that like you are good at speaking?
Depends on how she's performing during the lesson but,
I'm assuming like I guess the way she talks is kind of confident.
She speaks clearly like she doesn't, maybe she doesn't hesitate much.
Like she really doesn't stop to think about whether if what she's saying is grammatically correct or not.
Like she just goes at it.
I see.
Maybe that leads to, you know, looking like having confidence.
So it's a different thing about like skill very high or like fast speed.
03:03
Yeah, that's different from whether if you actually can speak English well or not.
Having the confidence. You can be confident without being able to speak very fluent English.
And that's a good thing.
Yeah.
Okay.
Yeah.
Right.
Right.
Well, I guess then just a bit like different from the 自信があるね in Japanese versus like, oh, you have confidence to me.
So you said everybody want to be confident, right?
Yeah, it's always good to have confidence.
It's always good to have confidence.
Okay.
Can you like...
Like what kind of confidence?
Yeah.
So you're trying to figure out what kind of confidence it is that I'm talking about.
Yeah.
Like even in the United States, there are people like that doesn't sound lovely.
Okay.
Right?
Is that right?
Right.
Right.
You're trying to separate like arrogance and self-centered from like what I'm saying was just confidence.
Yes.
Yes.
Like, you know, like受け答えがはっきりしてる.
That could lead to the confidence that I'm talking about.
That means if you say yes clearly, no clearly.
Yeah.
Like, yes, I love pizza.
Okay.
That's confidence.
Versus like, I love pizza.
That's a two different level of confidence that you feel.
Okay.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I feel it.
Yeah.
I see.
I see.
Right.
Okay.
Yeah.
Okay.
Okay.
Right.
So that's a good thing.
Yeah.
Yeah.
It's definitely a compliment.
It's a great thing.
I was amazed at your confidence.
Well, now, right, it does get me wondering how she's answering the questions on Zoom.
Right.
For the teachers to say something like that, right?
Right.
To be amazed at somebody's confidence has to be very confident, right?
Right.
Right.
But, yeah, I understand, like, if you are learning a new language, you're not confident.
Right.
Like, because you're learning.
Because you're not sure.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
But still, she is confident.
Yeah.
That means it's not, like, language skill.
It's, like, more, like, attitude or, like.
Attitude.
Character.
Character.
Yeah.
I see.
I see.
06:00
Okay.
Yeah.
That could very well be a part of why the tutor said that.
Okay.
Okay.
Great.
So you don't need to worry about this.
Oh, yeah.
It's not a this at all.
It's not a, yeah.
Yeah.
Okay.
Great.
Great.
I decided to be confident with my Korean.
Yeah, you should.
I decided.
Yeah, I am.
I am confident.
Oh, you are.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And I can't communicate anything, though.
But, like, you know.
But having confidence.
But having confidence in my Korean is fun on my end.
Yeah.
Probably not on the other.
I mean, that's a great attitude, I guess.
Yeah.
Thank you.
When you, like, learning new things.
Mm-hmm.
Starting, like.
Yeah.
True.
Like, I have one friend in France.
Mm-hmm.
And he doesn't speak Japanese at all.
He doesn't know even, like, sayonara.
I mean, sayonara could be, but, you know, a few words.
Okay.
But he was very confident about Japanese.
Okay.
He was like, I know what is Japanese.
Like, what?
Yeah.
But he was very confident.
Okay.
I know Japanese.
Do you think that helped him excel in learning Japanese?
Did you ever see him learn Japanese, like, at a higher level?
No.
Sadly.
But.
Sadly, not for him.
But I guess that's an important attitude when you learn new things.
Mm-hmm.
It's like, it leads to, like, be, you know, like a...
That's true.
That's true.
A new thing, right?
That's true.
Oh, I have confidence in, like, you know, getting forward.
That's true.
Yeah.
So, I guess that's very important.
That's true.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Right.
Right.
Okay.
All right.
Thanks for listening, guys.
Thank you.
Bye-bye.
