Welcome to Kevin's English Room Podcast!
Hello guys!
Hey!
So...
The last episode we talked about the challenge.
Yes.
The professional challenge that we're looking to accomplish or hoping to.
And I've talked about mine.
And how about you, Yabun-chan?
Okay, thank you.
Mine is...
See, Shisen-san,
You and I are both working from the office, and we've been changed careers.
So we might already be able to do what we want to do.
Yeah, that's kind of correct.
But, um,
I want to...
accomplish something in music.
Mm-hmm.
Music...
Music industry.
Yeah.
And, um, so I've been challenging.
My challenge has started yet.
But I haven't accomplished nothing yet.
So it's just still continuously have to try.
But there are two things that I want to challenge.
And...
That those are...
One is...
Uh...
Try...
Uh, kind of collaborate with some musicians.
Mm-hmm.
That's one.
And the second one is try do a live gig.
Oh, okay.
In front of people.
Are kind of my step.
Uh-huh.
That I have to... not have to, but I want to try.
Right, right, right, right, right.
Yeah.
Um, I guess one or two years ago, I kind of talked about this, you know, what...
What music to me and what I wanted to...
Mm-hmm.
Um, trying at the moment.
But, like, one year ago, I was more, like, focusing on
how can I be better as a musician or as a singer.
More like learning phase, kind of.
Mm-hmm.
Because I was really, really not professional.
Okay.
I was just graduated from, you know, a cappella circle.
Mm-hmm.
Didn't know nothing.
So what I need to was study about English music and try to, you know, get closer to that professional.
Mm-hmm.
Yeah, I was focusing on more, like, more my side, like inner side.
Mm-hmm.
But now I kind of... I'm not saying I'm now professional.
Professionals, I have professional skills.
03:00
But kind of as a phase, I want to do some things with, you know, better musicians
so that I can learn things from them and make better work together.
Mm-hmm.
And that will be fun.
Mm-hmm.
So that's fun.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So it's... the one you said about the gig.
Mm-hmm.
That's something that... is it because you want to perform in front of somebody?
Or is it, like, the fact that people coming to your life is something that can't be accomplished
if you don't have, like, popularity or, like, if you don't have a name to yourself?
Which one would be more closer to how you're feeling?
Ah.
What's the second one?
Second one would be, like, you'd want to, like, see your... see how good you're doing, like, in terms of, like,
by how many people showing up at the gig or, like...
Okay, okay.
Or is it just because you just want to be in a room where there's music and there's people listening to it?
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Is that the beauty of it or, like...
Yeah.
Which one is more closer to you?
Okay, thank you. The first one.
The first one.
Yeah, I just want to... yeah, of course I have to think about the second one.
See, you know, how I can, like... I can survive in the music industry.
How... if I can really, you know, monetize all these things or not.
You have to think about that. Of course that's really important.
But in my mind it's more like, I just want to perform in front of people.
Just kind of... yeah.
I just want to deliver my song directly to the people.
Yeah, that's basically what it is.
Why don't you do that?
Yeah.
Isn't that possible?
I mean, it's possible.
Like, if you don't care about the place, you just go to the Shibuya stations and you can do that.
Ah, street performing. Okay.
That's one possibility to me.
But at the same time, you know, I want it to be like...
Like a live house.
Yeah, like quality performance.
Right, right, right, right.
So there's like the right amount of onkyo.
Yeah, like the...
The right quality.
There's the band maybe.
I see, I see, I see.
Yeah, yeah.
It can be like some kind of cafe place without any microphones or anything.
Completely live performance.
But I kind of need like maybe the guitar player or drum player.
I see.
How do you find those people?
Like, is that findable?
Like, how do you...
06:01
I want to know that.
Right. You're a solo performer.
Yeah.
And if you need like a live band, where is the go-to for...
True.
You don't know either.
I don't know.
See, there are so many people like me who are acting as indie musicians.
But basically they are from kind of maybe like Keion circle.
Okay.
Like band places.
Then they know some musicians.
They have connections.
Yeah, even though they are not professional, but they have certain friends who can play drums, pianos, guitars.
But see, me and you, like we're from a cappella circle.
True.
Then nobody plays the instrument.
Yeah, we're not supposed to have instruments, right?
Yeah.
So we have some friends who love music, but...
True.
See, nobody can play some instruments.
That's true.
So, I'm kind of curious about how they do.
But yeah, that's why I need connection, as I said before, the first one.
I want to collaborate with musicians.
I see.
So that I can, you know, make connection.
I see.
Yeah, but the problem is how to collaborate with them.
Oh, wow.
Yeah.
Okay.
I see.
I still don't know.
Oh.
I thought there was...
I wondered if there was like a site where like...
Yeah.
That connects those like...
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Like, I want to play for...
Yeah, like a matching...
Like a solo.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
I need a guitarist or like a drummer or like a...
That can exist, maybe?
What?
That can exist.
Yeah, I feel like...
Yeah, it's a simple matching site, right?
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
So...
Yeah.
Maybe it's out there, I don't know.
Yeah.
Yeah.
That's what I need.
Are there more singers than there are drummers or like bassists?
Like, does the supply and demand match is what I'm trying to ask.
Like, are there more like singers who needs a live like drummers and bassists more than
there are actually people out there that are drummers and bassists that wants to perform
with a singer?
I don't know.
No idea?
Yeah.
I feel like a lot...
My intuition is like there's less.
There's less drummers and less bassists than vocalists.
Yeah, yeah.
I guess you're right.
There are so many people who want to perform in front of people singing, but less drummers
or like bassists or guitar players.
But one thing is drummers basically, they're professional about playing bass or playing
drums.
They can kind of play in some different bands.
Okay.
Oh, okay.
Like supporting several different singers at the same time.
09:05
So that's what they do.
So there are some famous drummer in Japan.
We see him so many times.
Wow.
For example, like music stations, live TVs are different.
There's also same drummer again with a different artist.
Oh, I see.
Yeah.
I see like Hoshino Gen in Japan.
Of course he plays the guitar really well.
But when he plays the performance, he got bands.
But that's not his band.
He's got support musicians together and then he performs.
So you need to find a way to get into that network of like, for you to be able to share
that band with somebody.
Oh, I see.
And I don't know.
I don't have any idea how can I do that.
So one is just, you know, put my songs out with very high quality and then musicians
come.
Right, right, right, right, right.
Maybe that's the best.
Yeah, that's the best.
Yeah, the most cleanest.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Yeah, it's true.
Yeah.
Or like, how about like you DM all the drummers?
Yeah.
That's a good one.
DM all the guitarists.
Yeah.
Like, here, this is my song.
Can you perform for me?
Yeah.
If I have live events.
Yeah.
Great.
Yeah.
I should do that.
Yeah.
Thank you.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Or find like the one of those matching sites.
Yeah.
Vocalists versus guitar.
That's something I have to go.
Yeah.
And I mean, if the site exists, yeah, you've got, there's your massive, right?
Yeah, if I can find that, that's great.
That's something I want to.
I'm gonna find that.
Yeah.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Right.
Yeah.
Or maybe I invite you as a drummer.
Yeah.
Yes.
Yes.
Do you still have the...
I still have it.
Oh, you still have it?
I still have it.
I still have not let it go.
Oh, great.
Yeah, it's just that I can't play it because I'm, there's people living under me.
Yeah.
And like, I don't want to like, make trouble.
So I'm not able to play, but I still only, and I want to.
Oh, man.
Boy will I say okay.
Okay, thank you.
Yeah.
Keep that in mind.
Yeah.
You're not gonna have quality drumming.
Yeah.
Just letting you know.
Okay, thank you.
Yeah.
You always do the older fill in.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Yeah.
And I probably won't be able to keep track of the tempo, right?
12:02
I probably need some clicker in my ear.
Yeah.
Okay.
Yeah.
Yeah, but those are the, you know, things that I want to try to challenge as a next step.
Nice, nice.
I hope you do well.
Yeah, thank you.
Yeah.
Thank you.
Okay.
All right.
Yeah.
Thanks for listening, guys.
