Good evening everybody. Here is Yusuke.
Hello, and here is Sandra from Tokyo.
So, today, we had a lot of guests this month.
We had one month's house full of Swiss people.Literally.
It was nice to know where tourists going nowadays.
What's popular in Tokyo and in whole of Japan. What they like, what they don't like.
We picked the best out and we will share it withyou guys.
Because maybe if you wanna travel to Japan in thefuture, you can make notes, take notes.
So, we talk about popular destination and a littlebit about food.
And at the end, stay until the end, we will giveour private recommendations for you.
Yeah, alright. So, I just picked up like 5destinations for Tokyo and except Tokyo.
This is based on what we heard.
Some places we never been to, but most of them, Ithink we know.
Alright, so, Tokyo.
Number 5, Uniqlo Ginza.
Yeah, I think by now, maybe everybody that has alittle interest in Japan knows that Uniqlo is fromJapan.
And it's really good for like basic clothes andlike heat tech in the winter, airism in thesummer.
So, a lot of our guests wanted to explore Uniqlo.
Yeah, by the way, this rank is mostly from Swisspeople.
Yeah, from basically my family.
Yeah, so Uniqlo Ginza is the biggest in Japan.
And there are like...
I think it's 12 stories.
I think so. I might be wrong, but...
Yeah, so I think you can see a lot of times onInstagram, social medias that Uniqlo Ginza is thebiggest and it's really, really big.
And maybe we need to point out that right now, theJapanese yen is still a little weak.
So, if you earn your salary in Swiss franc or USdollar or I don't know...
I think wherever except Japan.
It's like paradise.
So, coming here, it's like, wow, everything is socheap.
03:00
And me and Yusuke are crying in Japanese yen.
Yeah, and also Uniqlo has a sister brand calledGU.
And this is pretty much everywhere, I think.
Yeah, in Japan, yeah.
Yeah, it's a little bit cheaper price range.
And same, basically, same brand.
Yeah, and we like to get, for example, for ourkids, pyjamas from Uniqlo.
Our oldest son just got some new clothes from GU.
Yeah.
And quality-wise, it's really amazing, especiallyUniqlo.
And we get like heat tech for the winter.
I like the down jacket.
Yeah, it's really warm, right?
Yeah, it's really warm, so I think it's reallyworth to check it out.
Yeah, and the bag.
Oh, yeah, everybody is carrying this.
How do you call it?
I don't know. It's like a half circle shape.
Yeah.
I don't know.
Like watermelon shape, I don't know.
Watermelon bag is famous.
Everybody has it.
And I saw that that was the most sales in Uniqlohistory.
So apparently, everybody has it.
All right.
And now let's move on to number four.
Number four is Asakusa.
Yeah, Asakusa, including Skytree.
Yeah, around that area.
Yeah, it's very famous.
Everybody wants to see the temple, the Skytree.
Especially if you're from Switzerland and you goto a big city like Tokyo, you want to see the viewfrom the top.
And there is no higher building than Tokyo Skytree.
And first time I went up there, I literally gotdizzy.
It's so high. There are so many houses.
It's over 600 meters.
And I think really short term, but it was thenumber one in the world.
After that, Dubai, I think, or China somewheretook over.
It's crazy to see the view.
And you realize you're such a tiny little humanliving in this world.
It's massive.
And you can see Yoyogi Park. You can seeeverything.
And on a good day, you see Mount Fuji, right?
It's cool. It's really cool.
Yeah, and Asakusa is kind of like easily to feelhistorical side of Japan.
And temples and that Kaminarimon is really famouswith a huge lantern.
And the whole town feels like the past.
Yeah, and I actually took my parents there and wehad a tea ceremony there.
If you're interested, you can text me on Instagramand I can give you the details.
Because it was really, really great.
And we learned how to make our own matcha.
We even bought the sets.
And yeah, it's a nice place.
But be prepared that it might be crowded becauseeverybody goes there.
06:02
Yeah.
Okay, number three.
Number three, Shinjuku.
I love and hate Shinjuku at the same time.
It's so many people.
The train station is a mess for me.
Yeah, the train station, I don't know thedirection to.
It's so easy to get lost.
It makes me feel better.
Yeah, but I start to get better with Shinjuku, Ithink.
I realized I actually really love Shinjuku GyoenPark.
It's such a nice atmosphere there.
Yeah, it's really arranged and a lot of things.
It's big and you cannot imagine that this natureis in the middle of Tokyo.
Yeah, and Shinjuku is fun, especially at night, Ithink, to see all the lights.
You know, sometimes there's a high building withlike, I don't know, 10 different shops inside.
So everybody has like, everyone, all the shopshave their own advertisement with the lightingboard.
It's so cool to see.
And like, it's on all the sides, you know, it'slike light.
And I think it's a lot of times shown in themovie.
And this is Tokyo like kind of things.
Yeah, so everybody imagines pretty much like that.
Yeah, and you can go shopping, you can eat a lotof different Japanese food.
And yeah, of course, the park is nature.
Oh, it's pretty good.
And everybody wants to see Kabuchiko?
Do I say it right? Kabuchiko?
Kabukicho.
Oh, Kabukicho.
Oh, my God.
That's kind of like one of the main areas.
Yeah, or Golden...
Golden Gai, Golden... Yeah, that's a lot offoreigners going.
I mean, tourists going.
Small, tiny space bar, izakaya-ish.
I think you should experience like izakayas.
And you meet people, other tourists and talk.
Yeah, it's really nice, I think.
OK, let's move on to number two.
Number two is Shibuya, Harajuku, Omotesando area.
Yeah, including Yoyogi Park, Meiji Shrine.
Yeah, that area.
And I hear from many people that they think the Shibuya crossing is much bigger in real life.
I mean, it's actually big, but yeah.
And then it's actually easy to start.
I recommend always there because you can walk.
If you start in Shibuya, you can easily walk toHarajuku, then to Omotesando.
Before you check Yoyogi Park and Meiji Shrine, ofcourse.
They're all walking distance and they're reallyunique shape buildings and shops.
Yeah, I think it's representing Tokyo.
Yeah, but if you walk, make sure you wear goodshoes.
Because I think my family made average almost like15 to 20 steps a day when they did this ShibuyaHarajuku thing.
09:07
I think you easily walk around 10 kilometers.
Yeah.
And I also love that if you enter Meiji Shrine, it's also like outside is so busy city life.
And then you go in the shrine and it's calm.
You hear the birds and it's completely differentatmosphere.
And I love that.
That's the beauty of Tokyo, I feel like.
Yeah, even for Japanese people, it feels like, howto say, like holy.
Yeah, you can feel it's a special place.
Yeah, it's really like different atmospheresuddenly.
And Yoyogi Park is fun because you can sit thereand you see so many people and you can just watchpeople.
Because there's everything there.
Yeah, some people practice guitar, some peoplejust play.
Juggling, picnic.
With kids or family, drinking a lot and a lot ofcherry blossoms.
In the spring, yeah.
I think Yoyogi Park is one of the best for doingthe picnic.
Yeah, and everybody wants to see the TakeshitaStreet in Harajuku.
Yeah, I used to be excited there, too.
But now I'm just like, oh, it's so crowded.
Yeah, I think probably these places are not reallyfamily friendly.
You can go, but be prepared for many people.
If you go, research first.
For example, you want to see the rainbow sugar, how do you call it, sugar cone.
And then you go there, take the photo and then, you know, it's OK.
But if you walk there with kids in strollers, packed with a lot of people, it's...
But if you have a goal and you know what you wantto do, it's good.
Yeah, I think it's also nice for shopping.
Oh, and everybody likes the Starbucks in the topof, what is it, Tokyo?
No, Tokyo, I think.
Nata or something.
In the crossing, because you can go up and it'soutside.
Harajuku, man.
Yeah, and then you can take a nice photo.
And there's so many new things around Shibuya.
There is, for example, Shibuya Scramble Square andyou can go up to the top as well.
And there's a really nice viewpoint.
But I think you have to book it online in advance.
And there is an escalator, which is so popular nowall over TikTok and Instagram.
Because you can make this really, really nicecinematic movies like over the skyline of Shibuya.
I haven't done that myself yet, but one day I'llgo there.
Also, Shibuya, Harajuku, not Harajuku, but Shibuyais nice for the nightlife.
You go out and a lot of bars and nightclubs.
Yeah, and there are so many nice new restaurantslike under Miyashita Park.
12:00
There's like, how do you call this small little...
Izakaya places?
Yeah.
Or like Shotengai.
Shotengai.
They light it up.
You eat outside.
The atmosphere is really good.
Yeah, I think so.
So this was number two, right?
Yeah, this was number two.
Okay, what is number one?
Number one is Team Love.
Yeah.
So for all the people that stayed with us this onemonth, everybody backed us to go there.
We went like two times each or something.
And now we changed location.
Yeah, one of them, yeah, I think both of us movedto different place so that we didn't go.
I'm not sure if it's same as past or not.
But the feedback is amazing.
And also here, make sure maybe you book it inadvance.
Yeah.
And yeah, it's such a cool experience.
I think also for kids, it's fun.
Yeah, I think so.
If they're a little older, like four maybe.
Yeah, it's basically like projection mapping, alot of projectors and lighting and animation.
It's super, super cool.
Yeah, there are two places called Borderless andPlanet.
Planet, yeah.
And both are, I think, really well done.
Yeah, so this was the highlights for Tokyo.
Of course, there's so much more to explore.
But we just picked the things that all of ourSwiss guests really wanted to do this one month.
So now let's move on to the rest of Japan.
Okay, rest of Japan, top five is Fukuoka.
Number five?
Yeah, number five.
Yes.
So my sister and her boyfriend traveled there andthey were blown away.
Me, myself, I have never been there, unfortunately.
Oh, you've never been there?
No, but it's on my list.
Yeah, take me there, husband.
I have been there and there are a lot of goodfood.
Where did you go eat?
Hakata and Itoshima.
Oh, I'm sorry.
Yeah, I heard the atmosphere is so nice.
And if you love ramen, the tonkotsu ramen isreally famous there.
I do.
So yeah, a lot of nice food and yeah, many placesare nice.
Like Itoshima, I love Itoshima as well.
It's really beautiful.
Yeah, take me there.
Next time.
And number four is Hiroshima.
Yeah, I think history-wise, it's quite aninteresting place to visit.
Me, myself, I've never been there.
I think I've never been there too.
Oh, we should go there.
But we heard a lot of good feedback from Hiroshimaalso.
So it's quite sad to see the museum and theaftermath of the nuclear bomb.
15:07
I think we should really go there.
It's kind of a must.
I think so.
And there is one famous shrine called ItsukushimaShrine.
The one in the water?
Yeah, the gate is in the water and it's reallybeautiful.
Yeah, I've seen photos.
I've never been there.
And they're also famous for the oyster.
It's really good.
Oh, I can't pass on that.
Fresh oyster.
And I think autumn is really the season.
Take me there though.
All right.
Number three is Gifu, Takayama.
Yeah, everybody wants to go to Takayama at themoment.
Yeah.
Also, me, myself, I've never been there.
Yeah, me too.
I've never been there too.
We googled and we saw the photos from my sisterand it looks so nice.
So definitely it's on our list.
Basically, they have really beautiful mountainsand also really old towns.
I wonder if this is just interesting for Swisspeople because Swiss people like mountains orgenerally for tourists in Japan.
Yeah, maybe Swiss people cannot stay in Tokyo morethan one week.
I really believe so.
Not all of them, but most of the people that come, they need to get out.
Oh, I need to calm down in the nature a littlebit.
OK, number two.
Number two is Kawaguchiko slash Mount Fuji.
How many times did we go this year, Yusuke?
Yeah, it's really accessible.
It's not so far away.
We always take them there by our car.
And usually there is a traffic jam and it's apain.
If you want to really take really nice photo ofMount Fuji, you go to Kawaguchiko, that area.
I think the most famous photo of Japan, the onewith Mount Fuji and the tower, like old stylebuilding.
And the sakura.
And sakura, that photo is from there.
Yes.
So I think, yeah.
And some people goes to Mount Fuji and it'savailable until like only summertime.
You cannot climb up.
To hike.
Yeah, to hike.
Yeah, never did.
Yeah, I never did too.
But we've been to Kawaguchiko a lot.
Yeah, and there are also Outlet Mall and Fuji-QHigh Run.
Yeah.
That's the Dora Coaster.
And Two Lakes.
Yeah.
And some museum around.
Yeah, there are a lot of things to do.
It's very touristic as well, I think.
Yeah.
The museum, the open house, open air house, museum.
Yeah.
It's a nice place.
And I feel like Mount Fuji...
It sounds like you're not enjoy it.
Yeah, I enjoyed the first time.
18:00
And second, third, fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth time.
It's like, oh yeah.
No, but for me, Mount Fuji has a very, I can'texplain it, like magical atmosphere.
And I love seeing Mount Fuji.
It's like a power spot.
I think so.
I don't mind going there.
It's just, traffic jam is a pain.
It doesn't happen all the time.
Yeah.
And this year is the first time in 13 or 14 yearsthat Mount Fuji didn't have snow in thesummertime.
But now it has snow.
Yeah.
It was really weird for me.
Yeah.
It looks weird without his little white hat.
Yeah.
I don't know.
That's the beauty about Mount Fuji.
Okay.
So drum rolls for number one.
I'm sure everybody can guess.
Yeah.
Number one is...
京都大阪!
What?
Really?
And maybe Nara?
Yeah.
Everybody wants to go to Kyoto.
Which I understand.
It has a lot of history.
So many beautiful things.
And I've been there actually.
So...
Before this mess, right?
Yeah.
I actually was really lucky that Yusuke had workin Kyoto.
So we could go during the corona time.
Where the borders were closed.
So I was really lucky that I got to see the shrineand temples with almost no tourists.
And it was amazing.
It was so fun.
That was a business trip.
So...
Yeah.
You couldn't really go like nice places.
But it's still...
And then we had Leo.
He was a few months old.
But we went much before.
Yeah. We went before too.
I mean like...
And we went to the Universal Studio.
Yeah.
And we traveled.
I think we saw like...
The Harry Potter area.
Yeah. And we saw almost everything in Kyoto.
Like so many things.
Yeah.
We traveled with your parents once.
We went alone.
I once went with Tanya.
I once went with my friend.
So I've been to Kyoto a lot.
Cause it's nice.
Yeah. I understand.
I think the famous one is the lot of gate.
The shrine.
The Fushimi Inari.
And I think Kiyomizu temple is really famous too.
And Arashiyama.
That's the bamboo forest.
Yes.
And if you walk a little bit further up in bambooforest.
You have the beautiful view over the lake.
I don't know the name. Sorry.
Of the lake.
But...
I'm not sure.
It's beautiful up there.
Yeah. There are a lot of...
And also the structure of the town.
It's...
The city is totally different.
It's like a...
Maybe New York.
Yeah.
Like...
Straight like square.
The crossing a lot.
Yeah.
Yeah. And I love all the little shops.
And...
The tea houses.
The whole atmosphere there.
Yeah. It's amazing.
21:01
Yeah. I understand the hype.
I really do.
Yeah. And we took...
I think...
Bicycle?
Yeah. Once we took bike. Yeah.
Yeah.
And you can also buy...
Bus ticket.
That you can...
All day.
Yeah. You can...
Take bus as many times as you want.
I think bike trip...
Bicycle trip was pretty fun.
Yeah. We like going around by bike.
Yeah.
Alright. That's...
That...
Top 5 except Tokyo.
Yeah.
From our guest.
Yeah.
Okay.
Alright. So...
And Yusuke.
What do you like the most?
Or what do you...
What would you recommend to visit?
In Tokyo or...
No. No. In Japan.
In Japan.
I personally love...
Hokkaido.
Me too.
And...
Okinawa.
Yeah. It's 100%.
And that's like...
The north part and south part.
South. Yeah.
They are completely different.
Different.
Oh, my God. I'll just take what you say.
Yeah. Like Okinawa is more like...
Peach...
Ocean...
Tropical.
It's very tropical.
Yeah.
And Hokkaido is more like mountain.
Switzerland.
Switzerland by the ocean.
Yeah.
Yeah.
A lot of seafood and...
The food are really awesome in Hokkaido.
Yeah. The food is amazing.
And...
In Okinawa too.
I like Okinawa food.
Yeah. Okinawa food is unique.
Like it's slightly different culture they have.
They have own culture.
So...
Okinawa food is a bit different from normalJapanese food.
Yeah.
And...
Yakushima.
Oh, yeah. Yakushima is fantastic.
It's near Kagoshima.
Or it's in Kagoshima.
It's in Kagoshima.
And...
It's island.
It's an island covered in forest.
Yeah.
And little hills.
And the wildlife there is so cool.
You can drive around.
You see everything from monkeys, snakes, deers, insects.
I mean it's so nice.
The nature.
Like the nation.
The nature.
Like it's amazing.
And I...
Oh, I wanna go there again.
I think that...
The food is amazing too.
Yeah.
Island itself is world heritage.
And I think very famous for the trees.
Over 4000 years old and huge trees are there.
Yeah, they're massive.
Yeah.
I think Nagano is also nice.
Yeah, I love Nagano.
I mean we love Nagano.
It's very nice.
Yeah, we go almost every month.
Yeah, it's easily accessible from Tokyo.
And...
Right now the apples are in season.
And it's like you're eating candy.
And there's so many nice mountains.
So many nice hiking routes.
Yeah, Nagano is famous for apple, peach, grape.
24:04
And yeah, hiking.
Yeah, and they have nice onsens as well.
And in the winter you can go skiing.
Yeah.
And we went to Kamikochi.
Oh yeah, Kamikochi.
That was beautiful.
Like I've never seen that.
Looks like Switzerland.
It was so beautiful.
Yes.
We have some footage on Instagram or TikTok.
So if you're interested, you can have a look atour accounts.
We scroll down.
Yeah, there's so many beautiful places that wehave been.
And there's so many beautiful places that I reallywant to go.
As you heard, I've never been in Takayama, Fukuoka, Kyushu, Hiroshima.
I really want to go.
Yeah, it was interesting that I think one of theguests said
that all the places have completely differentlooks or atmosphere in Japan.
Yeah, it's so true.
It's so diverse.
You can get the beach life.
You can get the mountain life.
You can get the city life.
You can get the countryside life.
So I think it has something for everyone.
It's just the only thing that might be a bit hardis, for example, the summer is so hot and humid.
And people always tell me in Switzerland, it can'tbe too bad.
But it's not the heat, it's the humidity.
And in Switzerland, it's hot and it's kind of dry.
But here, it's so humid.
I cannot explain it.
If you never experience it, it's really hard tounderstand.
That's why we go to Hokkaido or somewheremountain.
So we escape.
But then my parents came in the summer.
Once when Levi was born, my mom suffered so bad.
So if you're not good with heat, I wouldn'trecommend summer.
I think spring and autumn is a really nice time totravel.
Even winter, it's just very dry and cold.
But it's usually sunny during the winter.
I think so.
It's cold, but sunny.
It's colder than the number.
It's because there's sometimes a wind and thiswind goes into your bones.
I can't explain it.
Maybe it's because of the sea.
Because in Switzerland, it's cold and I can manageit.
But in Japan, it's cold and I'm freezing.
Or maybe it's because the houses are lessisolated.
I don't know.
It could be compared to the Swiss house.
And also the buildings make the wind stronger.
27:00
And in Tokyo, where is your favorite place to go?
I have a few, but if I have to pick one, it wouldbe Kichijoji.
From Monday to Friday.
Don't go there on the weekends, it's packed.
But Monday to Friday is nice.
But I think it's less packed still.
Like if you go to Shibuya or somewhere like Shinjuku.
Yeah, like if it's just you without kids, it'sfine.
But if you have two little kids running around, it's...
Monday to Friday, I just go Monday to Friday.
What's good about Kichijoji?
I think I like it so much because you used to liveclose to Kichijoji.
And whenever I visited Yusuke, he had to stillwork, of course.
And then I had free time to kill.
And I would always go to Kichijoji.
So now I would say I know Kichijoji very well.
I know where everything is.
I know where the fun places are.
I know the park.
So I feel very home there.
It sounds maybe weird, but it's just like my comfyplace.
And I love window shopping there.
I know all the good cafes and restaurants there.
So I feel really comfortable in Kichijoji.
And it's not as big as Shibuya or Shinjuku.
But it has everything that you can dream of.
I think so. It's like they just picked goodthings.
They have a pretty big park called InokashiraPark.
And also for going shopping.
As we said, Uniqlo is very popular now.
And they have big Uniqlo, like seven stories.
And a huge Yodobashi.
Yodobashi Kyabara, if you like the retro stuff.
And shopping malls.
And fashions.
You have second-hand places.
And also the brand things.
And lots of small bars and restaurants.
It's kind of like a mini mall.
And then just pick the good part of Tokyo, I feellike.
So yours is also Kichijoji?
Absolutely best.
Favorite.
It's my home.
Yeah, I like it so much too.
And then otherwise it depends on my mood or what Iwant to do.
Yeah, like Shimokitazawa is also nice.
We like Inokashira area.
Yeah.
Like right now I'm more focused on what my kidslike to do.
Or where it's easy to take them.
But before having kids, I think I would takecompletely different answers.
But I mean, Tokyo is huge.
And there is really so much going on.
And I think everybody can find something they liketo do.
30:01
Also, if you go big buildings, it's really child-friendly.
Like there are like toilet and the breastfeedingplace.
And, you know, like it's family-friendly, I think.
Yes.
Yeah, very much.
A lot of people are impressed when you go tobathroom.
And then you go in the small space, like smallroom.
And then they have the chair for the kids.
So that they don't run away or they don't open thedoor.
Yeah, and the mom can do or the dad can do thebusiness.
I think I didn't realize because it's normal tome.
But then the funny thing is they put the lockwhere the kid can reach.
And then they open the door.
And I'm like on the toilet.
Ah, please.
Happened a few times.
Yeah.
Yeah, okay.
Maybe what is something you would recommendtourists to eat in Japan?
There are a lot.
But I would pick first, of course, sushi.
Sushi train.
I had my first sushi train maybe three weeks ago.
Yeah, we didn't really go because Sandra is notreally good with the raw fish.
I thought.
But I'm getting better, right?
Yeah, I think so.
We went like twice in a week.
Yeah, twice with different guests.
And I kind of enjoy it now.
And it's really fun experience.
I mean, even though you cannot eat fish, they havethe meat and different meals too.
And I think if you eat Japanese fresh one, freshsushi, you will change your mind.
Was it?
Did I change my mind?
I think so.
You were eating a lot.
And then I think all of my family and cousins andeverybody that came, they love okonomiyaki.
Oh, yeah.
So okonomiyaki is basically cabbage, egg, flour, meat.
It can be seafood.
Seafood.
And if you go in a restaurant, it's usually youhave a hot plate in front of you.
And then either you make it yourself or the waitercooks it for you.
And it's so good.
I guess the sauce is what makes it good.
Yeah, the sauce is special.
So you really have to try okonomiyaki.
With mayo, Japanese mayo.
Yes, 100%.
Yeah.
We also make it sometimes at home.
It's pretty easy to make.
And it just takes wonderful taste.
Yeah.
And also a big hit is shabu-shabu.
Oh, yeah.
What is shabu-shabu, Yusuke?
Shabu-shabu is a...
How do you say this?
It can be soup.
And then it's with the vegetable and the meat.
And you kind of like dip the meat inside the soup.
33:04
And then you eat with the sauce.
Yeah.
So basically for all the Swiss listeners, it'slike fondue chinois kind.
But there's a lot of vegetables inside.
And then you just like take it out of the hot pot.
And there's a lot of restaurants actually.
And you pay and you can eat as much as you wantlike meat and vegetables.
It's really healthy.
Sweets.
Yeah.
And it's winter food.
Soul food.
We could eat like in the summer too, right?
Yeah, we do sometimes.
And we make it at home now too on the table with alittle grill like gas stove.
Yeah.
And it's so good.
And the next day we make it risotto.
We call it ojiya.
Yes.

This I don't understand because sometimes theyserve it but sometimes they don't.
So it depends which cutlet you get or I don'tknow.
I don't know.

I always advise our guests.
When we don't go along with them.
Just walk around.
And suddenly you find something interesting.
And then go in there and try to eat.
And see.
Because it's fun.
Like I love to just walk around.
Even though like same food.
You had in other country.
But in Japan.
Maybe it's different way.
