Hi, this is Marcelo, a business producer.
Today, I'll talk about 5 lessons I've learned from my 31-year business career.
I've spent 31 years in various roles around the world at a consumer goods company.
I'd like to share with you 5 important lessons I've gained from this experience.
1. Set flags for what you want to do and take action yourself.
I learned this from my experience in Brazil.
After business trips to over 20 countries, I felt strongly drawn to Brazil.
I directly appealed to the president of the local subsidiary
and continued to show my enthusiasm by displaying a Brazilian flag on my desk even after returning to Japan.
As a result, my wish was granted and I was assigned to Brazil.
2. Think from the field without preconceptions.
My experience in Vietnam is a good example.
Initially, I was told there was no need for granular seasonings because fish sauce was already prevalent.
However, when we actually investigated, we found that many consumers were dissatisfied with existing products.
Based on this insight, we developed a new product that became a hit.
3. Think for yourself without being swayed by others' opinions.
I learned this lesson when proposing popcorn seasoning in Brazil.
Going against the opinions of local staff, I conducted my own market research to understand the actual needs.
I learned the importance of understanding the needs of the majority working class, not just the perspective of the upper class.
4. Survey your workplace members and establish your own position.
This was a challenge I faced during overseas assignments and working at headquarters.
It was important to demonstrate my value amidst language and cultural barriers or a difference in experience.
For example, when working in Japan, I established my position as a digital marketing expert.

5. Develop your skills as a subordinate.
My experience as a manager greatly helped me later when working as an individual contributor.
Understanding the boss's perspective allowed me to work more effectively.
For instance, there were insights into how to proceed my projects and communicate with superiors that could only be gained from management experience.
Summary. These lessons are important points for success in a global business environment.
Taking initiative, thinking without preconceptions, having your own perspective, and strategically building relationships with those around you lead to career success.
Additionally, the insights gained from experiencing different positions greatly contribute to growth as a business person.
Thank you for listening.
