Hi there, it's Asami. This is going to be a short one with a little announcement to make for
what we're going to do for the next few weeks, for the remainder of 2024. So,
a while back, Len and I found, well, I found these very extremely funny reels on
Instagram, as one does, and that got us inspired to do a little Christmas stories in this, you know,
classic childhood bedtime story style, and with a little nerdy details to throw in there for,
you know, since we're science podcast. So, we have talked about this since maybe the end of November
and thought this might be a fun little creative exercise to do. So, what you're gonna hear for
the next couple weeks, wow, it's already December 15th as I speak. So, for the couple weeks remaining
of 2024, we are going to be releasing shorter episode consisting each of, you know, a chapter
in this short stories that we individually wrote, and we had in mind was sort of hopefully this can
be a little accompaniment to especially those of us including myself who cannot go home during this
holiday season. I, for one, particularly feel like
海外で過ごしてますけど、そのうち maybe half of the time I was back home in お正月, and actually
03:02
in terms of vibes, I kind of prefer going home in winter in お正月 than going back home in summer,
even though I have a higher chance of getting sort of like a longer chunk of holiday off during
the summer. I don't know, there's just something about spending your 年末年始 with your family
and your, you know, going back home to your 実家 and spending some time there that really
really resets you, I think, and I know that, you know, maybe not all of us have a 実家 to go home to but
I feel like being able to spend time with the people you love during this time
when it's cold outside, I think it does mean very special things. A number of times I did spend
my winter holiday either on my own or just, yeah, like kind of traveling a bit to kind of avoid
like 一人旅, you know, to avoid being stuck, being left behind on campus.
That has happened quite a number of times and sometimes people take pity on it
and invite me for their Christmas dinners, which is very nice. Sometimes I just, you know,
have a nice little New Year's Eve or Christmas on my own, which is, if you haven't done it,
I recommend you try at least once. I mean, maybe you feel extremely lonely but to me it's kind of
nice. It's also a different way to spend your 年末年始, just really focusing yourself and
trying to really tune in, listening to, you know, where I am, what do I want to do for the next year.
I cannot remember off the top of my head what or who did this study but there's a study
basically saying that whenever there's sort of like a segment in your life, like something that
punctuates your life, you know, whether it's your new birthday or new year, new semester,
something like that, and, you know, when you finish your school there's no concept of semesters
and sometimes you live in a country where there's not even a concept of season, you know, so
06:03
um it's kind of hard as an adult to have that kind of resetting factors and I think
New Year's, regardless of what religion or, you know, how you celebrate it, is a pretty universal
time to reset and sort of recalibrate, you know, what went wrong last year, what went right last
year, and kind of try and think what do I want to be, where do I want to be next year, this time
around. So anywho, this is, so for the next, I think, yeah, two weeks or so you're gonna get
a shorter episode every day and each of them are gonna be a chapter in a longer story
of, you know, these kind of all holiday themed short shorts, I guess, is what people call it
these days and I hope you enjoy and, you know, I think if you're traveling, either going home
or going somewhere else, I think winter time is a travel time, so if you are traveling,
these stories might be a good little heartwarming companion to your travels.
If you're traveling, have a safe travel. If you're not, you should still have a good day and have a
safe time wherever you might be at and if it's, if you're in a northern hemisphere, stay warm.
If you're in a southern hemisphere, I mean, go have fun at the beach or something.
Yeah, so that's it from me and I hope you enjoy our little Christmas skit for all of you listeners
and thanks so much for tuning in to us this year and we hope to entertain you
for the next year as well. All right, bye! That's it for the show today. Thanks for listening and
find us on X at Eigo de Science, that is E-I-G-O-D-E-S-C-I-E-N-C-E. See you next time!
