But like in the same vein of things though, I feel like ballet dancers are also very weird. Don't you think?
Yeah, I think so, too
and
Yeah, how do you yeah, how do you say 物好き in English?
It's very difficult to explain, right? But I think that's kind of like
um shared idea between you know, the henshin and all kind of fields
And those specific profession including dancers too like they love what they do
Their pursuit is endless
like
They can never reach
the destination but they try to
You know improve themselves every day
And I feel like the pathway
Is similar to the research pathway. They're trying to figure out the
You know new findings or something. Oh, yeah, I I think especially for
classical ballet, I think
It's very directly related similar to
Research. I think the kind of people who get attracted and become really passionate about classical ballet
uh are the kind of people who are
very like into investigation they like
They don't mind repeating the same thing over and over and over again
And every time making tiny tiny changes
hoping that you're making the changes in the right direction, but
You don't always know that but you keep doing it for years
and
At some point you realize you will never
Never ever become
The like the the version of yourself that you envision but you try to get as close as possible
uh to that
And there's a time limit, you know, like our bodies are not eternal, you know, we are exposed to a lot of stress
and a lot of
Unusual amount of physical stress that normal human beings don't experience
And um
And and yeah, it's it's really it's very kind of research
Maybe that's why I like classical ballet still like i'm not even that good at it and I still really really like it
And maybe that's because
But like it's
you know like
I
The fact that I don't mind at all to put a lot of effort into something
03:04
that
has like
nanoscale improvement
When you look at it overall
is like
Oh, yeah, that's that's like a very fortunate thing to have encountered in my life, but also
a pretty weird one
Yeah
Very nanoscaled
This is so true
Like at this at our age at our age is yeah exactly
I was about to say the same thing
The time has come
This is totally off the topic of the topic of the
science is introduced more into
like athletes dancers and all kind of entertainment and you know, you're bringing the idea of science into
art the paintings
Different kind of science is introduced
Science has like
that helped and
They can you know
Be professional or be in the professional stage for much longer years
Right or even the recoveries also if somebody gets injured and yeah, it's not career ending anymore
No, that could yeah that could have terminated your you know lives
There are some options
Yeah, like
I think when we were kids
Being a professional ballerina past like 35 was like whoa, you must be superstar, right?
and
now
Regularly like many dancers can keep their prime dancing period
into late 30s even early 40s and
Yeah that the wendy whalen when she retired from new york city ballet. She I think it was like 45 or something
I mean, she's wendy whalen but
like
still and
It's so nice to see
That there's a little bit more buffer time
between
like the technical maturity and
artistry maturity
You know, I feel like ballet or like figure skating and these kind of like
young
prime athletic
kyogi
Tend to reach
06:00
technical prime when they're really young
And but like the things that different about ballet and you know
All these other olympic sports is that it's an art form
so
your your dancer needs to be needs to develop as an artist too and
Usually I think in the past we didn't have a lot of time for dancers to develop that artistry
when they're working so hard on their technical mastery
and
now I think the the window of time where they can do both at the same time has
Gotten longer
so
We as audience get to enjoy more of that
Yeah, like the new extended part of their life, yeah, yeah like it's and it's so
Interesting to be able to see somebody's career
For more than like 10 years, you know
Um
Right like like they're regularly like prima ballet dancers
who are
Who have been principal now for like
Nearly two decades and I feel like that was very rare easily
That was that was very rare before
That couldn't be possible maybe like now, you know, we can name quite a few who've been
You know dancing the principal roles if not promoted to the principal officially
But who could be you know in the center of the production for a good 20 years?
Yeah, like sometimes even more than 20 years and they still have like, you know
Another decade or something to go if they take care of themselves really well
So that's really that's really nice. But yeah, I mean I still do think though that um
Ballet dancers definitely a little weird
For sure
That's why I think i'm still in this field everyone is so
um
Entertaining. Yeah, maybe maybe you also like henjin too
like much like I do and like
And you like, um being around other
other henjin's
in your art
um world
Who like are doing every direction
Exactly like it's not limited to dance
I
had
A lot of like funny memories from exhibition too
and
Everyone is so interesting and then they say
something very
unpredictable or
Very surprising to me
and I would never you know, sometimes that
That sometimes annoying at that busy period of time. Yeah, but like, you know as a memory I
09:05
cherished one of everything like
Yeah, that was like very very crazy moments, you know in the
Major sub installation period right before the opening of the exhibition. That would be very crazy
But there are reasons for them to make those actions
For example, like some somebody with scientific knowledge of the art
Very very very tiny change in the art piece is a huge problem
To them and to the art history and somebody is like, oh, this is a big thing and I do understand
Understand
But you know to the general public maybe
some people might say is that
That huge problem right now
But to the science person
Yes, it is
And i'm always in between
So that's true. I kind of enjoy those moments. You are in a role as a producer
To sort of like have to babysit all these henjin people
Who are like no, this is really important. You must stop everything and take care of my needs
And you're like, uh, no
We cannot stop for you, but let's see what we can do, right? Yes, right. So those things
But there is you know, no matter
No matter like small or big reasons behind
There's always a reason for them to be so henjin at that moment
so
I try to understand
Good memories. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah
Yeah, no, I you know, I I I just instinctively thought that you would be a good person to talk about henjin because
You know me very well
but yes now that I think about it, I should have
introduced you as like a professional babysitter of henjin people because that's what you do for your job and
You do a damn good job doing that
um
I know you have run around everywhere of tokyo trying to make full-blown adult
Go from one place to another where they're fully capable of doing it, but they just refuse to try
And
That's true
Yeah, that's you know, you are yeah, you're digesting
My life as a very funny event and that's very appreciated. It's not negative or pessimistic stories
but thank you for like having my you know past experiences as
something funny
I I I always find it. I mean, okay not in the middle of it, but when you tell me
12:01
Afterwards i'm like always amazed at your capacity
for
Being patient and being attentive
wow, if I were her I would be like
Go figure out you're an adult but like
You will go. Yes, you will like bend over backwards to like make sure
That this ballerina has this very specific band-aid so that she can fix her blisters
Or like things like that, you know
That's true and sometimes I feel like
Needs a translation
I know not the translation between different languages
but
I think that's what i'm doing every day. Wow. Yeah. Yeah, I should have introduced you as a professional
Hengine babysitter hengine translator to make sure that hengine the talented lovable hengines
can
function in
Human society, you know
We need the ecosystem that can synchronize this with the normal human being's world
Yeah, well, well, thank thank you for making that happen
Oh, no, i'm still learning and I do enjoy
That's great. I think that's a good note to end this talk. Thanks cari for coming
Thank you for having me
That's it for our show today. Thanks for listening and thanks cari for coming again on such short notice
um, I hope you listeners enjoyed uh hearing her perspective on hengine and our
Fun little discussions around it and
Um, I think my takeaway is that we're all a little bit hengine one way or the other regardless of what we do for living
Or what kind of person as a character we are
Yeah, and I I think I just like
uh the scientific field, um because it enables
different kinds of
hengines to exist and
Flourish and nurture their talents, I guess the same is true for the world that cody's in
Uh, you know in her entertainment
field and the art world, I guess
I genuinely do think the world will be better off if
we allow
different hengines to exercise their different kinds of talent
And
15:00
I hope we're as a society. I hope we're heading towards that direction
Uh, just a quick note though. Um
I did repeat
repeatedly say
Kori being a professional babysitter for these hengine people and that's true. She's very good at it
But that's not the only thing she does
Uh, she has a few actually more than a few
creative directions under her belt. So
um
Yeah, just just making that clear
and so
Go listen to the playlist and i'm excited to hear what other people have to say about this kyotsu topic
Um, thank you shibucho-san for this topic. Bye
