Welcome to Kevin's English Room Podcast.
Hello guys. How's it going?
We talked about football and FIFA World Cup iscoming.
And the host country, the United States, Mexicoand Canada, I guess.
They're building the atmosphere.
They're starting to, you know, building things up.
Mainly, the United States, they do some shows.
You know, a little informational shows.
Yeah, like commercials.
Yeah, not like commercials but like TV shows thatintroduce what is soccer to the country.
And then, they introduce like the United Statesnational team members,
how they do, the coach and what is World Cup andeverything.
Right, to get people more interested in the showand have them watch it.
And I would say we, the traditional footballlovers, we're happy about that.
They advertise it and like they start to letpeople know those things.
Bigger community.
Yeah, but the way they do is, first of all, it'svery interesting.
Okay.
And then like, so first of all, it's not a biggercommunity.
It's like, so the United States is smallercommunity than the football community.
Sure, sure, sure, sure.
But they're very good at like marketing thenational team.
Oh, okay.
And they're saying like, this guy is like a toptier player that, you know, Cristiano Ronaldo,Messi and this guy, the American guy, Christian Prusik.
That's the name of the player.
Top three players in the world.
But no, I mean, I'm sorry for the Christian Prusik.
He's a good player though.
But globally speaking.
Yeah.
I mean, it's.
They don't make the list.
Yeah.
I mean, it's very.
I mean, he's a good player though.
I understand it.
But like it's, no.
Or like they make 50 players that you should watchor like the next generation top star players andthey make a list.
And then like, I kind of understand it, but like,I don't know, like 20 American football, American.
Oh, okay.
Players are ranked in.
And like many of them, like we, I'm sorry, but wedon't kind of know.
Okay.
Oh, oh.
And then like many of those like star players arenot in the rank.
03:00
And then like we were like, oh.
Fuck is this?
Yeah.
Very much skewed.
It's like the U.S. side.
Very interesting.
Wow.
Super biased.
Yeah.
And in the studio, they film those like.
And then like a NBA top player.
Yeah.
The basketball player.
Yeah.
Who.
Like a commentator?
Yeah.
As a commentator.
They invite NBA player as a commentator.
And that NBA player is, oh, look at that stat.
That was NBA.
And like, no, it's a different sport.
Yeah.
Very American.
They don't have three points?
I don't know.
I don't know if he understands football.
Yeah.
It's very American.
It's very American.
But it sounds funny.
It sounds fun.
I'm happy that they're building the atmosphere.
Yeah.
At least they're doing it.
At least they're trying to get people on board.
Yeah.
So I'm happy about it.
But I'm looking forward to the competition.
Are there any, like actually, are there anyAmerican players that's actually on a global levelthat should be on the watch list?
I think, honestly, two, three players.
Two, three?
That plays in the highest level.
OK.
Who is that?
Just like me to my level.
OK.
So that's Christian Prusik.
Forget the name.
Aaron something.
OK.
He plays in the...
Yeah.
Aaron...
I forget the name.
But...
OK.
But there are about three.
Yeah.
Three players.
Four players.
Three or four?
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
OK.
How...
So for us Japanese, you know...
Matt Turner.
Matt Turner?
Yeah, that's a goalkeeper.
OK.
Yeah, sure.
It's one of the three or four players.
Yeah, I would say.
So about like Mitoma.
So my first question is, is it safe to say thatMitoma is globally the top Japanese player?
Yeah.
To date, right?
And so without being Japan biased, without being, you know, skewing to the Japanese, how much Mitomais getting spotlight?
And how much, you know, yeah.
How good is Mitoma?
No bias.
No bias.
Globally.
I would say one of the best winger.
06:01
OK.
Winger is the position.
Sure.
One of the best dribbler, I would say.
OK.
If you name...
Maybe not five, but if you name seven best dribbler in the world, Mitoma's name will be in thelist.
OK.
Yeah, not five, but...
Not five, but maybe seven.
Seven, yeah.
Got it.
Yeah.
I see.
Yeah.
That's the...
Your reality.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
I see. OK.
And so every week they have the league matches inmany countries.
And every week the FIFA, I don't know, someorganization decide the best 11 of the week.
OK.
And they pick the best player of the week for eachpositions.
Yeah.
And then Mitoma's name will be the list sometimes.
OK.
So, yeah.
So you'd say he's like globally known.
Yeah, yeah.
I see.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Yeah.
But if you...
It's a bit different from like Cristiano, Messi, you know.
Those like...
Stars, superstars.
The superstar, the face of the...
The soccer industry.
Yeah, World Cup.
Yeah.
I've been hearing news or rumors from social mediathat Ronaldo is losing his touch because he'sgetting old.
Is that true?
Well, yeah, true.
He's been making mistakes that an average soccerplayer wouldn't.
He's not handling his soccer balls correctly.
Yeah, recently, yes.
OK.
Because he's like 40 something.
Let me check.
How old Cristiano Ronaldo is.
41.
41.
Yeah.
OK.
Yeah.
His prime was, I don't know, 5, 10 years ago.
So, yeah, it's true that he's like aging and thequality gets lower.
Especially he was very fast and, you know, solidplayer.
OK.
And as he gets older, you know, a bit slower, lesspowerful.
I see.
Less like accuracy and everything.
That's true.
But still.
Still very good.
Still good.
Super extremely valuable.
Yeah.
He makes goals somehow.
You know, he doesn't like dribble like longdistance and like pass everybody, pass througheverybody and just score like crazy goal.
Not like that anymore.
But great position, positioning in front of thegoal.
09:02
OK.
Just one direct header.
One quick shoot and like decide the match.
I see.
And win the, you know, the games and everything.
So still a good player, decent player.
So it's not as obvious and flashy as like atricky, like, you know, skilled play, but morelike quiet, high skilled playing.
Yeah.
Experienced.
He still has it.
Yeah.
OK.
I see.
Still.
That's good.
It's crazy.
Crazy good?
Crazy good.
Think about his age.
Oh.
That's 41.
Nice.
That's amazing.
Amazing.
He's going to be in the World Cup, right?
I think so.
I think so.
The other guy?
The Messi?
Yeah.
Messi will be in too?
I think.
I don't know.
He said he's retired from the national team.
In the last World Cup, he won the title.
Dalzentino won the title.
And then...
Mepiso, Mepinapisi.
Yeah.
Everybody thought that was the last moment forhim.
The last dance.
He won the title.
And that was the thing he was saying before theWorld Cup.
The Qatar World Cup.
He said like, this is my last World Cup.
And then he won it.
So everybody was like, oh, come on.
That was the drama.
Oh, okay.
And after the Qatar World Cup, he's still playing.
He's still got it?
To me, it's like, what are you...
You're lying?
I thought that was your last play.
That's why I bought your shirt.
But he's still playing.
I see.
He's still playing, so...
Oh, wow.
He might be on the cup again.
He's lying.
He's saying like, this is my last World Cup.
And just still he's playing.
I don't know.
Mbappé?
Oh, yeah.
You're gonna be in it?
Yes.
Okay.
Which country?
France.
France has the craziest players in the world.
Number one is Mbappé.
Yeah?
Yeah.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Who's number two or three?
So, Mbappé in Holland.
I've heard of him.
Yeah, the big guy.
The big guy, yeah.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
And Lamin Yamal.
Oh, first time.
Oh, you should check him.
Okay.
To me, he's the best player.
Okay.
He's from Spain.
And...
What was it?
Was it Filet Mignon?
Lamin Yamal.
Gotcha.
Y-A-M-A-L.
12:03
Yamal.
Yamal.
Gotcha.
That's the name.
All right.
And Vinicius Junior.
Vinicius Junior?
Yeah, from Brazil.
Okay.
Those are the stars, I would say.
Oh, got it.
I got to check that out.
Of the countries.
Yeah, I got to check that out.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Or Judo.
Jupelling?
Bellingham.
Jupellingham?
Yeah.
Gotcha.
Yeah.
Icons, I would say.
I can't say.
Icons.
What?
Icons?
Yeah, the stars.
Oh, the icons.
Yeah.
Gotcha, gotcha.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Lots of star players in France.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Yeah.
But they're not doing as a team.
They're too selfish.
They battle in the world, in the team.
So they're not...
They're not cooperating with each other.
Yeah, we don't know.
Quality is the highest, but...
Like individually.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
But they're not doing as a team.
They don't...
Classic.
Yeah, they don't work as a team.
Classic paradox.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
All right.
Thanks for listening, guys.
Thank you.
Bye-bye.
