A YouTuber video or like a podcast content is somuch more easier to understand than like a
Hollywood movie.
100%. Yeah, 100%.
Well, I agree with that. I agree with you.
So, I think there are two reasons. One is like thewords are very special.
Like even in Japanese, sometimes you don't getsome words like, I don't know, special words.
Typical in those environment. That's one. Andsecond is like it's the way they say it.
Oh, yeah. They're acting.
Sometimes it should be like when you're, it's notclear speaking like this,
but it's like more like when you're dying, maybe.Or I don't know, when you're running,
when you're fighting and you say it. So, it'sjust, it's simply just hard to catch.
Absolutely. Yeah, I think those two reasons arebig.
Yeah, yeah. I agree, I agree, I agree. I can thinkof several other reasons.
Adding on to that, for example, the audio itself, how you have the background music and like the
noise, ambient noise, that's there as well.Especially like, you know, for example,
03:04
like the Christopher Nolan movies. It's famous foryou can't hear the actor's voice in those movies.
That's one. The other is like, maybe it's similarto your first reasoning, but like,
let's say, for example, you have a CIA agenttalking with another CIA agent, right? You're
never in that world. So, it's like the terminologythat they use and like they only, you know,
it's not very, they don't explain everythingfully, right? They're in a different world.
So, it's just, it feels so harder to understand.Yeah.
Yeah, I get it. Right. It's like, you know, it'slike, you know, you go to, you enter a new company
and then you hear your employees next to you talkto each other and you have no idea what they're
saying. Like if you go join a kaigi or somethingfor a new company, it's no idea, right? It's
kind of like that, you know, they have their ownkind of, you know, topics, own kind of like way
of saying, you know, terminology that makes theviewers a little bit, you know, need some sort of
knowledge to sort of fully understand it. So,yeah. Or like, you know, like medical movies,
right? Yeah. The doctors, two doctors likespeaking and it's very, medical is a very, you
know, highly
terminological feel, I guess. So, those things, right? Yeah. So, in that sense, maybe like CIA
movie or like a medical movie is much harder, whereas like a romance movie might be a little
bit more easier to understand. True. Or like acomedy movie might be a little bit easier to
understand. Human drama movies, right? Maybeeasier. Like those things could, you know,
maybe helpful. Yeah. Right. The other day I wentto see Spider-Man, the latest Spider-Man movie.
Yeah.
I would say I understood 90% without watchingthose, without reading the jimaku. Okay, okay,
okay. I think because it's the, you know, theenvironment and situations and everything are
not that super special. Okay, okay. Or they hadenough explanations
for people like me and like living in general.Yeah. So, it differs. It depends on the movies.
Right. Yeah. Right. And you said it's easier incomedy movies, but to me it's a bit difficult
because I don't know the real American culture.Okay, sure. That's true. I have no experience on
what was on TV, like GMOs or like what was theproduct's name. Okay. The references that they
make. Yeah. Like, you know, elementary kids inAmerica, everybody knows this, but I don't know
that. That's true. So, sometimes I don't get thoselike comedy, the jokes and everything.
06:00
Right. Sometimes that happens. Okay, that's true.Yeah. True. What about movies like Hangover?
I mean, I understand the whole concept, basically, yes. So, it's a funny movie,
I understand, but I think I missed some of thejokes. Okay, okay, okay. Some of those,
yeah. Okay, gotcha. I'm sure I missed something.Okay, gotcha. Yeah. Yeah, that's true. That's
a little bit tricky in a different way. Right. That makes sense. Yeah. Yeah.
But yeah, so maybe start off from easy ones. Notspy movie. Yeah. Not, what, medical movies. No.
Medical movies are really difficult for me aswell. Maybe one of those,
not daily life. Yeah. Like a reality TV show. Oh,yeah. True. Yeah. Those things.
National Geographic. That's easy to understand.
A Disney channel. Huh. Disney movies. Disneymovies. Relatively easier to understand. True.
They're making this in a way that kids canunderstand as well, so. Right. Yeah. Nice,
nice, nice. But Disney does have a lot of jokesthat I'm sure Japanese would not understand.
Okay. Yeah. Like a play on words joke. Thosethings. That's another thing. Yeah. There's a
lot of those. I look at the Japanese jimaku withthe English audio and I'm like disappointed.
Right. Many times. Me too. Every time I see thesubtitles, I mean, they tried their best,
I'm sure. Yeah. And if I do that, I, I would screwthat too, but. Yeah. It's, it's, yeah,
you have to, it's difficult. It's almostimpossible to do those, like,
dajire things or like jokes. Those ones. Right.Words playing. Right. Right. Right. Yeah. Yeah.
In spider movie, Spider-Man movie too, there aremany of those like word playing. Right. You know,
like I forget the situation in the specifiedphrases, but sticky as a dajire things and
using in many, many places, but. Okay. Okay. Okay. And translated into different
vibe. Okay. Okay. Yeah. I get it, but. Yeah. Oneof the questions that I wanted to ask a
Japanese viewer was, you know, how in Japanesesubtitles in an American movie,
when they make a joke, there's like a dot on topof the Japanese subtitle. Oh yeah. When there's a
word play, is that, do you guys understand that?So I think the answer is yes, but it's a
different,
it's all already in turned into a different joke.I see. Than the original ones. Okay. Okay. Okay.
09:03
They changed into understandable joke to Japanese.Got it. Got it. So we understand that way,
but it's different from the original. I see. Isee. I see. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Okay. Right. Right.
I was like wondering how is this translated tolike, how is this taken to the Japanese people,
but okay. Yeah. Yeah. But I think it's verydifficult for the translator to, I'm sure it is.
Yeah. It's a, I'm sure it's a, yeah. Right. Okay. Thanks for seeing guys. Thank you. Bye.
