エスプレッソマシンの体験
Okay, welcome to Kevin's English Room Podcast.
Hi, good morning. Good morning. Good afternoon.
Good afternoon. I bought a latte.
You bought a latte.
At 7-Eleven, but I put it in the latte machine, but it said the machine doesn't accept this type of cup.
Apparently, I bought an iced coffee.
What do you mean? You bought a latte?
I bought it. Yeah, I thought the latte and the iced coffee is the same cup.
So I thought you could just buy this and then put it in the latte machine and push the latte button.
But it recognized the cup saying it was not for latte.
I see. It's only for like iced coffee.
Yeah, I did not know that. Is that how it is now?
You don't buy lattes?
You don't buy lattes?
Especially, is it like you have like a, you know, fridge?
And it's got special cups.
That's right. It's a cup filled with ice.
And what you do is just take one and then, yeah, bring that to the cashier.
Yeah, I know that. It's not the one, like it wasn't filled with the ice.
It was, this was filled with ice.
Oh, okay.
This was filled with ice.
So, yeah.
Because especially, like usually if you bring this cup from the wherever,
and then you bring it to the register, I think you cannot choose the lattes.
You cannot choose lattes?
You were like a...
I didn't tell them anything. I just gave them the cup and I just went with the flow.
Oh.
I thought it was just, you just buy this and then put a latte in here.
Oh, I see.
No, I didn't know that.
Okay, okay. So you just bought a regular iced coffee cup?
Yeah, because that's the only machine that would accept this cup, right?
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
So I bought milk afterwards and decided to add it.
It's not the same though, right? It's not the same.
Yeah.
Yeah, it's not that far.
Yeah.
It's a little thin. It's like...
The coffee is...
It's very thin.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Very thin.
Very thin, okay.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah, it's right.
Right.
So it's not something you actually wanted.
But better than like the black coffee, I would say.
Okay, okay.
Yeah.
You put milk in it.
Yeah.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Are you enjoying your machine life, the espresso machine life?
Yeah, what I'm doing right now is I'm trying all these different beans from Starbucks.
Oh.
There's like 12 or something.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
From very light to very dark roasted beans.
Yes, yes, yes, yes.
I've always thought that espresso beans should always be dark,
but I've actually tried some very light beans with espressos and
that itself has its own goodness, I thought.
Right, right.
Not bad, so.
And the thing about the espresso machine that I have, somehow,
even if I use the same type of beans that the store uses at Starbucks,
I get this weird something, this weird little, this weird sharpness to it.
Sharpness?
Yeah.
When I do it with my home espresso machine, it's just not the same.
Okay.
And I don't like that sharpness.
Oh, you don't like that sharpness.
Yeah, you never taste that sharpness when you're outside drinking lattes.
Not only at Starbucks, but in general.
In general, you don't, yeah, I never have it.
Sharpness, okay.
Yeah.
And there was this one time where I received beans from the store,
because you get beans sometimes, they give you for free.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
And then I put that in the machine and it was actually pretty good.
It didn't have that sharpness and I liked it,
but the thing is, I forgot which bean it was.
Now I'm on a journey to try every one of them
and see if I can taste the same goodness in them.
Okay, okay, okay.
So far, I tasted eight.
Eight?
Eight beans.
Okay, so four left.
Yeah.
Isn't there like any seasonal specials?
That's right, that's right.
There's seasonal ones too, so there's always a possibility.
It might've been a seasonal bean, but yeah, so far no, I'm not able to find it yet.
I wonder what's the sharpness that you're having with your machine.
I know, it's probably the grinding, how it pushes out the extract, right?
That's the only difference, right?
The amount of pressure that the machine can provide,
how many bars it can provide, right?
That matters too, right?
True.
Freshness?
スターバックスのドリンクと好み
No, I'm for non-freshness.
Because the beans aren't completely the same.
Right, right.
You use pure water, like our usual.
Yeah, like from the sink.
Should I use like a purified water?
I'm not, you can try though.
Yeah, I'm not, I have no idea, but it might be, you know,
changing thing.
They say water is most of the coffee, right?
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
I should try that.
Yeah.
When I went to the UK and try some, you know, coffees, I taste the taste of water.
Oh, okay, I see, yeah, yeah.
Well, when I came back to Japan and tried those Americanos,
and then I didn't taste the taste that I tasted in the UK,
then I noticed, oh, that was the taste of the water.
Yeah.
Maybe, I'm not sure if that's sharpness, but.
Yeah, I don't know.
Yeah, right, I'm on a journey though.
Yeah, you always try with the milk?
I hardly ever drink black coffee.
Yeah, only when I'm eating like cake, you know, like birthday cake or something like that.
That's when I only go for the black coffee.
Usually it's latte.
Yeah, okay.
Espresso with milk.
You put sugar in it or like?
I don't, I don't put sugar in it.
Nothing?
Anymore.
Usually, several, like, you know, before I had changed my diet, it was vanilla syrup or caramel
syrup or, you know, chocolate to make it a mocha, you know, maybe a white chocolate to make it a
white mocha or something like that.
But no, now I just go for just a plain old latte, but sometimes with like mocha,
less syrup, like half the amount of syrup.
Okay, okay.
That happens too, but.
You enjoy that?
Usually, yeah.
I don't go for that much frappuccinos anymore, actually.
Oh, really?
Yeah, I remember there was a, you know, we were making shorts and there was one short
that was generated of me saying, oh, when I go to Starbucks, I only go for the frappuccinos.
That was the clip that I would clipped out.
And I was like, wow.
I've changed.
I hardly ever go for frappuccinos anymore.
It's like you cut it out, like automatically.
Yeah, it automatically generates shorts, right?
That's the service.
And it did that for me.
From the really like old videos.
That's right.
That's right.
So I was like surprised that, oh, I've changed really, you know.
True.
Yeah.
So you go to the Starbucks and you just buy beans and that's all?
Yeah, but sometimes I just buy lattes too when I'm like in store, I want a sayo in stores.
But yeah, right, sometimes.
That's a huge change, you know?
That is a huge change.
Yeah.
A huge change.
However, there's one other sweet drink that I still kind of now enjoy, which is a classic
hojicha latte.
That was not, that's a fairly new menu.
From the Starbucks?
From Starbucks.
Yeah.
And now it's like a teban shoki, I believe.
And that's pretty good.
Very good.
I like it.
Is that like, there's no coffee inside?
I don't think there's coffee inside.
I think it's just hojicha and just a little bit of sweetener.
Okay.
I don't exactly know what they put in there.
I don't know if it's milk though.
I don't think it's milk that they put in the drink.
Oh.
Yeah, because they told me that it wasn't milk.
Really?
Yeah.
What's inside then?
I don't know.
It's probably some special made hojicha syrup or something like that.
Oh, okay.
Is that something with the cream or like anything else?
It's not creamed.
I don't think it's creamed.
Like a cream on top or things like that?
Oh no, it doesn't have cream on top.
Okay, okay.
It looks like this.
It kind of looks like this.
It does.
Yeah.
Yeah.
That's good.
Yeah.
So you love that thing.
I mean, you love those.
Well, I mean, especially that thing, I guess.
Like you mean like non-creamy?
Yeah, hojicha.
Oh, the hojicha?
Yeah, I do.
I do love hojicha.
You love that.
Yeah, I do.
Yeah.
Yeah, that's right.
So how's your coffee life?
Have you been finding good coffees recently?
Have you been finding good coffees recently?
You?
You.
Me?
Yeah.
Yeah.
Trying to...
Now, like I'm wanting something good, like, you know, decaf coffees, like decaffeinated coffees.
スターバックスのデカフェ事情
I'm looking for decaf coffees, but tastes nice.
And so far, I found one.
Okay.
Yeah.
One good, two okay.
One good, two okay?
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
But it's not perfect though.
Well, one good.
I'm kind of...
Like acceptable.
Yeah.
Satisfied with that.
I'm completely fine that one is really good.
But still, like, I feel like there are, you know, I only have one option, then it's kind of...
Right.
Very limited.
Yeah.
You'd want more.
I want some choices, you know?
Yeah.
Right.
So I'm looking for something different.
Okay.
The only decaf that I know the taste of is Starbucks.
Okay, okay.
I've ordered some, a lot of decaf Starbucks lattes.
Yeah.
Like at night, or, you know, it's not going at night.
Yeah.
How's that?
I mean, I have to try that.
Oh, okay.
Yeah.
Thank you.
Yeah.
I didn't open that door.
Okay.
It was never an option for you.
I should try that though.
I really should.
But I don't...
I doubt it's going to make the list for you.
Right.
When has ever Starbucks been a good quality amongst the coffee lovers?
I mean, they're really strong to me, at least.
Oh, okay.
So I'm not sure.
Like, I don't, you know, compare like just simple black coffee.
You know.
Yeah.
I'm not sure.
Okay.
But, you know, I have to try.
Okay.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
It's a choice, right?
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I tried the latte version, but decaf latte.
Decaf, yeah.
Yeah, sometimes.
But it felt not really different.
Not the vibe?
Yeah.
Well, I mean, in a good way.
Oh, in a good way?
It wasn't that different from like the caffeinated ones?
Yeah, I didn't feel the...
Because it was latte.
So I didn't...
Honestly, like it's like...
Like a milk.
Yeah, it's a latte to me.
Okay.
I was worried.
Yeah.
Oh, I see.
I see.
Yeah.
I should try the Starbucks black coffee decaf version.
Yeah.
But the thing is...
So this is like an ura-ji-jo.
So you don't have to worry about this.
But from like a former Starbucks person.
It's when you're busy.
Okay.
And when it's time, when...
Let's say this is a business guy.
Yeah.
Right?
A lot of black coffees come out.
Oh, in business guy.
Okay.
If it's like a, like, I don't know.
Yeah, like a morning time or...
Morning time or...
Lunch time.
Lunch time.
Yeah, a lot of black coffees.
But if it's like a, you know, a lot of frappuccinos, right?
Yeah.
So if it's like a business guy, a lot of black coffees.
Yeah.
And when they make black coffees, but decaf, they have to use...
So they have two...
Usually they have two sets of brewing machines for black coffees, right?
Oh, okay.
And then they brew one.
And then they use that.
And then they use the second one if that one goes out.
So it's like they would sort of use both, right?
But when it's decaf coffee, they would have to delete one
and then use the whole thing as the decaf machine.
Okay.
So now they only have one caffeinated.
Okay, okay.
And that's one decaf.
No one really buys decaf black coffee.
So you have one dead stock of decaf left.
When we have that, we have like, we have decaf right now.
We can give it to you.
Do you want it?
Oh, I didn't know that.
If you're the first one, you're gonna have to wait a lot of time.
Oh, okay.
So they have to make it from scratch.
Which means the flip side is you get a fresh batch of coffee.
But it is, for me, it's like, all right, we're gonna work with one.
It's like, it's 11.58.
Okay, okay.
We're gonna have lots of black coffees.
This guy wants decaf.
All right, we're gonna work with one set of brew machine for this lunchtime.
All right, we gotta be careful not to, right?
Okay.
So you would be like, are you sure you want that?
Are you sure you want that?
Okay, I'm not supposed to, you're not supposed to do that.
But like, if the customer was like, I'm really not deciding like,
should I go for like a decaf or like a caffeinated one?
I would definitely recommend the caffeinated one.
スタバでのデカフェの最適なタイミング
Oh, this one's freshly batched.
You know, we can give it to you now.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
It's good too.
People like it.
Right, right, right.
I didn't know that.
Okay, okay, okay.
Yeah.
But on the flip side, there's a lot of ways to avoid that.
So it's not that, you know, even though I'm the one that said it to you,
it's like no pressure.
So it's better if you go, let's say,
well, first of all, it's not like the busiest time.
Yeah, right, right.
When is the like, basically?
The most non-busiest time would be, if it's like an office kind of environment,
that would be around 11am or I would say 2, 3, 4pm.
Oh, I didn't know that.
I thought it's like a coffee time for people.
Not really.
12, 1, that's when it's the most like, you know, lunch, coffee break kind of time.
Around 3, 4, 5, that's like, it's not that much.
Okay, well, that's good for me.
That's coffee time for me.
So, yeah, yeah.
Okay, that's perfect for you then.
Okay, I'll try that then.

What about just buying beans?
Buying beans?
Oh, they love that.
They love it when you say, oh, do you want to grind them?
And you're like, oh, please, you don't have to grind.
Just give me the beans.
They love that.
Oh, yes.
All we have to do is just scale it and then boom, we're done.
Yeah, that's me.
I didn't have to.
Oh, yeah, they love that.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
They love that.
Yeah.
I'll try that then.
All right.
Thanks for listening, guys.
Thank you.
Bye.
