Welcome to Kevin's English Room Podcast.
Hello.
Hello.
Another great day.
Another great...
The sky is fairly clear.
So nice.
Very, very nice.
I love winter.
Oh yeah?
I love winter days.
Oh yeah?
Because it's sunny.
And it's not that cold.
Like if you wear a lot of stuff,
it'll be okay.
Go outside.
It feels so nice compared to summer days.
It's dry.
It feels so nice.
Oh really?
What do you like to do during winter?
During summer, you get to go outside,
go to the beach,
and there's all this stuff you like to enjoy.
Any winter activities out there?
Just going out.
Camping, winter camping, that's one thing.
Winter camping is a thing?
Yeah, but it's...
For extremists.
A little bit, yeah.
But you know, outside drinking hot coffee,
enjoying something warm,
that's lovely.
Or going to onsen place.
That's nice.
That's one big activity.
Yeah, like sotoburo, right?
Sotoburo is nice during winter.
I gotta give you that.
You know, have you seen the picture
of people
in the outside bathtub?
And also some monkeys
coming in.
Yeah, I've seen that.
I wanna try that one.
I've never done that.
To this day, I don't believe that's real.
Is that true?
Is there a place out there in Japan
where monkeys come to your public bath
and join you?
That's cool.
I don't know.
It's in the mountainside, I guess.
I heard like some...
But not like typical one place,
but it's like
in a mountainside, onsen.
That's cool.
I wanna try that.
Looks scary.
Imagine if monkey come
just next to you.
I mean, they are animals.
Yeah, they are wild.
They can sort of attack you.
And I can't...
They are pretty unpredictable.
Have conversation with them.
It's not negotiable.
If they wanna attack, they do it.
But I've never seen any footage
of those monkeys in public baths
just attacking people.
I'm guessing they are calm
and nice and chill.
Enjoying that.
You think it feels good on their side?
You think they're like,
Oh, this is nice.
Yeah, I think so.
That's why they come and get inside.
How do they...
Do they go down to their neck?
03:01
How do they do that?
I think I saw some pictures
like they're getting like...
Up to their shoulders?
It's just like a human being.
Yeah, inside.
But I'm not sure if it's
like very common or not.
It's just one picture.
It could be rare.
That's cool though.
Yeah, I wanna try that.
I like skiing and snowboarding.
I don't go but...
That's one of the biggest
activities in the winter season.
Oh, actually, yesterday
I went to skateboarding.
Ice skateboarding.
Yeah.
It was fun.
Like the one in cities?
Yeah, the one in cities.
Not like the one in Kasetsu.
It's not the Kasetsu-jou
where it's really small.
It's inside.
It's a big stadium-looking shit.
Yeah, you have like
the seats and everything.
Yeah.
It was fun.
Have you ever done that before?
I've done that before several times.
I think it was like two or three times before in my life.
Yeah, it was fun.
Is it common in the United States to do that?
No.
Roller skating is more common.
Ah, I see.
Yeah, there's roller skate parks
and places.
Yeah.
Are you good at doing that?
Well, I can go
at like a
semi-normal speed.
Okay, okay.
Semi-normal speed.
Like I don't look like I'm a pro.
Definitely not.
I don't look like I'm experienced
by looking at my
form and everything.
It was like two or three
second or third time.
But I made it without slipping.
I made it without falling over.
And so, yeah.
It's fun.
But I had a Cairo in my
Hokkaido
in my pocket.
I wanted to take it out while I was
skating and I dropped it accidentally.
But you can't
really... I don't have the skills to do
sudden stops or like
turns and stuff like that.
I was like, oh no, it's all gone.
But like there's kids
that are extremely
skilled in those parks.
There's kids that are spinning.
There are kids that are doing those like jumps and stuff like that.
They're very, very fast.
And those kids, I was like,
oh no, no, no. But those kids came.
Hi.
Oh, arigato.
Just goes away.
They were
superheroes, man. They were literally
superheroes out there.
Huge.
Yeah, they were really...
Their patrols were really like...
06:01
Out of this world.
I'm going to be like a professional.
They just continued their, you know,
working on their craft.
I can see them
being on TV, you know, being on the Olympics.
Gold medals.
They were really good.
Yeah.
Nice.
That's a lovely winter activity.
It was.
I wonder if you can do that during
like midsummer day
or it's like extremely hot outside.
Skateboarding?
Ice skating?
Can you do that?
Because the temperature difference
is just so much.
True.
They must have it though, right?
Yeah.
My mom used to do that.
Ice skate?
Yeah, figure skating.
A few years ago.
Oh yeah, you told me about that.
And I remember she went there
even during the summertime.
Some special...
Because I thought, you know,
if it's winter, I'm sorry,
if it's summer,
you're wearing a t-shirt
outside but when you go in
you're wearing like sweaters
and like gloves
and stuff like that.
I feel like it's just a huge temperature difference.
It's like...
Right?
Kind of like bad for you or something.
It's like the opposite when you...
True.
Which may be
one of the reasons why people might
want to do it in summer, right?
It's so cool inside maybe but...
True.
But yeah, I'm sure they...
I'm not sure
if they like open
in the very, very hottest summer times.
Yeah.
Because like the AC could be like
fucking like overused
or something.
Could be.
Have you done ice skating before?
Yeah.
How was it? Fun?
Yeah. It's been a long time
since I did that last time.
But I love that.
But as my mom was
really good at it,
I was kind of never like
reached to the level.
Always, you know.
So much better than me.
All the time.
You're like squishy.
And when you try new things
and then if you failed,
you slip.
Physically that hurts you.
It hurts you. Literally.
That's one thing I didn't like.
You know.
Like for example, like football.
If you do like new trick or something,
it doesn't hurt you.
It's just you couldn't reach that.
But ice skating,
literally it hurts you.
There's like a physical limit.
Like how much you can withstand pain.
09:01
So you can't continue
to pursue that.
You can't do it physically.
Yeah.
All right.
That's it.
Thanks for listening, guys. Bye-bye.
