Welcome to Kevin's English Room Podcast!
Hello!
Hey guys.
I sounded like a stupid guy.
You probably did.
Hello!
Can we show up on?
What?
On the cameras? No?
Uh, yeah...
What does that mean? Be not?
No.
Okay.
Yeah.
Okay, great.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Okay.
Yeah.
So.
Um.
Okay, that wasn't...
Okay, here we go.
Okay.
Um.
Kevin-san, Kage-chan, Yama-chan, konnichiwa.
Konnichiwa.
Nama-haishin wa nakanaka mirarenai no desu.

Um-hum.
Ya, I have.
You have?
Last time I was in a business meeting in English.
Oh.
With Amazon-san.
When was the last time?
Three months ago.
Okay.
Three, four.
Um-hum.
I was not able to speak as fluently as I wanted to.
Oh, really?
And I felt that my English was deteriorating and I felt devastated.
Okay.
Wow.
Yeah.
That happened.
Okay.
Yeah.
Is that your expectations was like got too high or your English skill get too low?
That's a good question.
Yeah.
Um.
So do you feel your English is getting like lower?
Um, so I think, you know,
I think that my English is getting higher.
Higher.
Yeah.
However, if you were to express it with a graph.
So the moment I was in the U, the moment I moved to Japan, first year of high school,
right?
That was when the decline started happening, right?
Okay.
Because I'm not in the English community anymore.
Yeah, of course.
It started going down.
Yeah.
And it keeps going down.
Okay.
03:00
Right.
And then around college, out of university, it went stable.
It stabilized.
Okay.
At this low level.
At this low level, okay.
After I started doing Kevin's English Room.
Yeah.
It started going up, up, up, up.
And I am not sure whether if I have passed, if I've surpassed the beginning level.
I don't know.
Yeah.
I don't know if I'm higher or lower.
That I'm not actually sure.
Yeah.
But I think I'm at a decent level.
Okay.
And I've, right now, it feels like it's going up.
Continuously going up.
Great to hear that.
So it went down and then it went up.
Okay, okay.
Okay.
I feel like I'm more better.
Excuse me.
That's better.
I'm sorry, guys.
Excuse me.
That was my peanuts.
Yeah.
That was my nuts.
Yeah.
Mixed nuts.
Excuse me.
Yep.
I feel like...
The burp, I just erased everything in my mind.
The burp just...
All gone.
So what I was saying is...
Oh, okay, okay, okay.
I feel like I know more vocabularies.
Okay.
Than when I was back in the US.
Oh, great.
Like I'm an adult now.
I know, like in general, like I have more knowledge in general.
Yeah, of course.
With that came the vocabulary as well.
You went through so many things.
Yeah.
So in that sense, I feel like I'm better.
I know more words.
Yeah.
But I guess...
My image was like, I felt like the flow of the conversation maybe was getting lower,
I felt like.
Okay, okay.
That was in me.
That was kind of like the insecurity in me.
But like, remember we talked with Salem, at least?
And I kind of realized that, okay, maybe it hasn't deteriorated as much.
Maybe I wasn't, I'm not that off.
Yeah.
Like I didn't have any trouble communicating with her.
Yeah.
And I felt like my vibe wasn't that off.
Yeah, yeah.
Like I kind of gained confidence after that.
Okay, great.
And that's kind of where I'm at.
Okay, okay.
Oh, great.
So even you, you have some, you know, sometimes you, oh, I didn't,
I haven't done that as I wanted to be.
Yeah.
Sometimes you did, oh, I did it perfectly.
And it's like a little type of up and down.
Yeah, all the time.
Okay, okay.
So maybe you shouldn't worry about that that much, you know?
Okay.
Do you get it, man?
I don't, of course.
I do.
Of course.
Do you feel like, okay, so do you feel like that you're expect, do you meet your expectations?
Do you think that you can, in your mind, do you feel like you can get more out?
06:06
Do you feel like you can express it better?
But when it comes to actually communicating in English, do you feel a barrier that you didn't
see when it was in your head?
Yeah, I mean, I'm not that like disappointed every time, but my expectations are much higher
than I actually can express in this spot, on the spot, at the moment.
So always feeling, you know.
But I'm not like disappointed about that.
It's just like that, always having that expectation and I can, you know, try to reach that and
that's what I do.
So has your expectation gotten higher from the very beginning?
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Oh, really?
Higher than that.
Yeah, of course, of course, of course.
So it's getting higher and higher.
Yeah.
Your expectation.
Yeah.
And I guess my level is kind of slowly getting higher, but my expectations are getting higher.
So it's like, the disappointment is getting bigger.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Yeah, I mean, that's good, right?
Yeah, it's good.
And that's how you improve yourself, right?
Yeah, because at the beginning, when we started this podcast, my expectation was just tell
what I'm thinking to you.
That's all.
That's, you know, success to me.
But now, my expectation is like a speak like Brad Pitt.
Okay.
You know, it's like a...
Okay, like a native speaker.
Yeah, yeah.
So...
Wow, that's such a, that's a level up, you know, that's a huge step up from your original...
Yeah, that's why I like that.
But, you know, in theory, if you continue doing it, like you will get to that
place, right?
Yeah, sometime, someday.
Someday, right?
I can reach through that Brad Pitt English.
Brad Pitt level.
Yeah.
Failure teaches success, right?
Yeah.
True.
Wait, yeah.
Yeah, yeah.
Yes, I've never thought, I mean, I've never thought, I've never accepted those things as
a failure.
Oh, okay, got it, got it.
It's just, it is.
Like a motive, like almost like a motive.
Yeah, true, true.
It's okay.
Makes sense.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So I don't disappoint about that, but...
How well can you communicate in Korean?
See, when we start this podcast, the levels are almost same, like Koreans...
09:01
Really?
English and Korean are the same?
Yeah.
I thought, I think so.
When we start this podcast.
Yeah, like back in two years ago, right?
Yeah, like...
Or maybe not, but now my English is, you know, as my English level is getting higher.
And also I've never spoken Korean for...
Right.
Maybe 10 years.
Okay.
So I don't know.
So 10 years ago when you, when you've last spoken in Korean.
Yeah.
Were you able to communicate with them?
Yeah, I remember I...
See, I had a friend in Korean.
Okay.
We've talked in Korean.
How deep of a communication level were you at?
Well, we were a child.
So just, you know, kind of, of course, play around, played around.
See, it was like not like the talk about businesses or life.
Or life.
Not those things.
It was just played around and just, you know, kind of express your feeling.
Just, I'm angry.
This is fun.
Yeah.
Let's do this.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
That's...
That's cool.
Yeah.
That shouldn't be like that.
Or it's like that.
Easy conversations.
The child conversations.
So...
But at least in my memories, I was able to communicate with Korean friends.
You were having fun in Korean.
Yeah.
We played together.
In Korean.
In Korean.
Of course, I now I can think that those Korean friends, they spoke easily to me slowly to me, of course.
But...
Yeah.
Yeah.
Wow.
Imagine if we would have done...
If the podcast wasn't in English, but like it was all Korean.
Yeah.
Do you think that your Korean level would have...
It's just right now, it's English is like this.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Boom like that.
Yeah, I think so.
Because you are like the Korean native speaker and then spoken in Korean.
Right.
Yeah, then...
That's true.
Yes, sir.
Oh, that's...
Yeah.
It's fascinating.
Yeah, I should...
You should think about it.
Yeah, I should train that.
I should practice.
That's fascinating if you think about it.
Yeah.
Just speaking with somebody just get your...
I mean, it's obvious, but like...
Yeah.
To think that your Korean level might have been here.
Yeah.
You know, if we've done all this in Korean, that's...
That just fascinates me.
Yeah.
Right?
Yeah.
True.
Yeah.
I...
I should have done that.
Yeah.
Yeah, I mean you should do it, man.
Yeah.
You should start a Korean podcast.
Yeah.
Because I can...
Do you have a Korean friend?
Because I want to join your podcast.
Oh, really?
Okay.
Let me think.
Any Korean native...
I mean, I have friends in Korea.
Oh, in Korea.
But, you know, they can't come to Japan to do the podcast.
12:02
But, for example, like the ladies in college, the Sakura.
Somi or something.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Yeah.
I mean, me and Somi, we were in the same band, like the starting band.
Oh, great, great, great.
So, like...
And she speaks English as well.
True.
Perfect.
So that's a perfect...
Yeah.
Guess what?
She's in Georgia right now.
Why?
She's in Atlanta, Georgia right now.
Really?
I saw her stories, she was in Atlanta, Georgia.
Wow.
She lives there right now.
Oh, she lives there?
Yeah.
I don't know what she's doing, but she's...
Wow.
I don't know why, but she's in Georgia.
Wow.
Yeah.
I was like, "Damn."
Wow.
She was at the Coca-Cola Hon-sha headquarters.
And she's walking up?
No, no, I think she was at the museum.
Oh, okay.
On vacation or something like that.
Wow.
I was like, "Oh, damn.
Wow, you're in Georgia."
Freaked out.
Oh, great.
Yeah.
All right.
Yep.
Okay.
Yeah, I should...
Yeah, recently I'm thinking that I should practice my French again.
Oh, yeah, that's good.
Practice my Korean again.
Yeah.
Practice my...
Yeah.
Get that multi-language going.
Yeah.
Because my languages levels are getting lower.
You know?
Okay.
All those languages except Japanese and English.
Okay.
And they say three is good, right?
Yeah.
True.
Yeah.
That's true.
Yeah.
All right.
I should do that.
Yeah.
Yeah.
If you're doing Korean, count me in.
Okay.
Great.
I want to do Korean.
Okay.
Let's do that.
Yeah.
All right.
Thanks for sitting, guys.
Thank you.
Bye.
