Welcome to Kevin's English Room Podcast!
Hello guys!
Hello!
I hope the YouTube audio is okay because we've been trying out this new method of like raising
the bar.
What do you call this?
The bar?
Yeah.
Yeah.
Hope it's okay.
Mm-hmm.
Yeah.
If not, tell me.
I'll fix it again.
Yeah.
I'll see what I can do.
Thank you.
Yeah.
As always.
Thank you.
We've got a professional engineer.
Oh yeah!
The Kevin, Kevin the engineer.
Kevin the engineer.
Yeah.
So what I do, what I do if I have to engineer my video is I get the file, right?
I put it on iMovie.
Okay.
Yeah.
And then I raise the volume.
Oh!
And then I export it.
Oh my goodness!
Well that's a, yeah, that's a very professional engineer thing.
Right?
Simple is the best, I guess.
It's true.
It's true.
Okay.
So, yeah, I've got a topic about, see, there's so many messages saying that I found you on
TV.
Oh, right!
We gotta talk about that.
Yeah.
I found you on a drama.
Right.
I found you on a TV screen with Nagano Mei-chan.
That's so something, something.
We got so many messages.
Thank you.
Yeah.
So right.
I, my first debut on a TV drama.
Yeah!
Wow!
Congratulations!
Thank you!
Made a TV, Rendora Shutsuen.
Yeah.
Yeah!
It's a one-time thing though.
Of course.
Like a guest kind of thing.
Really?
Yeah.
You're not someone who will, you know, return in some several episodes.
Probably not.
You know, in the future.
No, probably not.
You'll be like, really?
I was the...
Ano toki no ho.
Yeah.
No, it's probably not gonna happen.
No?
I don't think so.
Okay.
Okay.
Um, did you look at it?
Yeah.
I saw the short clip.
Oh, okay.
And it was really funny to me.
Yeah.
Unbelievable how nervous my face was.
I was so nervous.
You were like...
I know, right?
Unbelievable.
Why was that?
Okay.
Yeah.
So why was that?
Completely because I was just... it was a new environment.
I was nervous.
Can you describe the environment and settings here?
So me and Tsuji-san are our managers, right?
We go into the studio.
03:01
Wangan studio, whatever that is.
And we go up several... like third floor or something.
That's where they were shooting.
In the studio thing.
Yeah.
Yeah.
The set.
Yes.
The so-called set.
Right?
And then they've got all the...
I think it was like an office setting.
Sort of, I think.
And I guess it's meant to be like a venture company kind of setting.
Yeah, yeah.
So they've had this PC.
They've got this chill kind of meeting room and stuff like that.
And the set was filled with staff.
Filled.
Hacked.
Wow.
I don't know how many people there were.
About like 20, 30.
Wow.
Yeah.
How big was that, you know, the room?
Pretty big, actually.
As big as this floor.
Okay.
Pretty big, right?
Yeah.
But 30?
30.
That's a lot.
Yeah, that's a lot.
Yeah, and I don't know any of their roles.
Yeah.
I have no idea who to listen to.
Okay.
Me and Tsuji-san were just sitting in the corner.
Yeah.
Right?
Yeah.
Yeah.
And then Nagano-san walks in.
Okay.
Right?
She's like over there, walks in.
And then like, Mizu-san, we're like, "Oh, that's a battle."
What?
That's some big ass eyes.
Yeah.
God.
Wow.
Skinny arm and huge eyes.
Oh, really?
Yeah.
Wow.
It was like, it was almost inhumane.
Yeah.
Okay.
In a good way.
In a good way.
Of course.
In a good way, guys.
Of course.
Yeah.
And then she does her thing, right?
She takes some nankatoka.
Okay.
And we sat there for like two hours.
Unbelievable, by the way.
Two hours?
Two hours, right?
You guys are sitting in the corner of the room.
We sat in the corner of the room for two hours doing nothing.
Wow.
And...
But it's okay.
But it's okay, you know, I had my role there.
That's the TV industry, right?
Yeah.
That was a little bit of a...
I would say, "I could have spent that time doing animal."
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Or something like henshu or something.
But like, okay, first time experience.
This is what I bought into.
Yeah.
So, I waited.
Yeah.
And then two hours later, they called me up.
And then, "Ah, next is Kevin-san."
And then like, everyone like started clapping.
I'm like, "Ah, nice to meet you."
Yeah, yeah.
It's like, "Oh, shit.
This is how it goes.
All right."
Like, ten minutes ago, you guys didn't give a fuck if I'm here.
And now you guys are fucking clapping at me.
All right.
All right.
We're doing this thing.
And then this...
I don't know who that is.
Maybe the director, AD, whatever it is.
That person...
The person escorted me to like this chair.
Chair?
And then all of a sudden, cameras and then the lights and then all the staff's attention
06:01
just boom to me.
And I was like, "Oh, shit."
Wow.
And then they had this...
Okay, then.
Let's start the reading.
Okay, reading.
Okay.
Yeah.
Well, I mean, thank God I was in the drama club.
I knew what a reading was, right?
Yeah.
They didn't even explain to me what that was.
They just started, "Okay, let's start the reading."
Yeah, if that was me, what is a reading?
Yeah.
So, reading is just like...
You don't do the motion.
It's just mouth only.
You sit and you just read the script.
Okay.
So you understand like the tempo.
Okay.
Yeah.
Okay.
So I did that once.
And then I didn't know what to expect next.
Okay.
And then the director goes, "Let's start!"
And then I was like...
And then I did my line.
Okay.
And then I got like a, "You looked down a little bit, so do it again."
Okay.
So I did it again.
I still didn't know if this was like a honban or like a sub-rehearsal or something.
But I still was kind of like really nervous, right?
Yeah.
I said my lines.
And then, "Ai, Aihokadee! Arigatou gozaimasu!"
And then my role ended.
My deban ended right there.
Oh, wow.
Yeah.
Wow.
I didn't even get to check the screen.
So like I was probably going like, "Oh my God, I'm probably really nervous on the screen."
Yeah.
And Suji-san was like over there laughing.
He was like, "Oh, Kemp's like, "You're so nervous."
So you didn't even check the screen.
No, no.
I didn't even have the time to check or like the chance to check.
Okay.
So it was the same as we saw the TV screen.
It was the same timing.
Yeah.
It's the same timing.
Like I didn't know how it was going to end up.
Wow.
Until it was public.
Wow.
So that was my experience.
Oh.
I was actually really like scared to look.
Yeah.
Because I was scared to like find out how nervous my face was.
Yeah, yeah.
And it was actually, it was pretty funny.
Yeah.
How scared my face was.
I told my dad about it.
Okay.
And he gets excited when I get on TV.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
And I told him like, "Oh, man."
"You look so nervous."
"I'm a little bit frustrated."
My dad was like, "But it was a good scene."
"I think it was just right."
I was like, "Well, thank you, Dad."
That's really kind.
Thank you.
He's kind.
He's a kind guy.
Yeah.
So, right, that was the story of how I made it to the RENDORA.
Really funny.
Yeah.
09:00
You did your scene without nobody.
You were alone.
Or like Nagano-san was sitting on.
So, Nagano.
So, because it was like online.
Exactly.
In scenes.
Exactly.
So, at the final henshu, it looks like split screen.
Me, Nagano-san, they're both facing the camera of the laptop, right?
Yeah.
But actually, how I did it was I was sitting down in a chair and there was not a laptop,
but like an actual camera.
Okay.
Like the big ass camera, right?
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
That was right there.
And I was looking into the camera and behind the camera was Nagano-san standing.
Oh, standing.
She was reading the line with me.
So, like I understand like when to say stuff.
That was how it was.
Okay.
Yeah.
Oh, so you didn't shoot at the same time, Nagano-san and Kevin?
No, no, it was just me.
She probably shot her scenes at some other timing.
Okay.
Yeah.
Oh, wow.
Yeah.
So, Nagano-san was standing in front of you.
Well, not...
She was a little bit far.
Okay.
There were so many staffs in between me and her.
So, like it really wasn't like a close by action.
Okay.
It was more like I could kind of like barely hear her voice kind of distance.
Oh, that's sad.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
That's sad.
Right.
Yeah.
But did you say hi to her?
Yeah.
After the scene, the staff, they were like, "We take a picture of the guests with Nagano-san."
Okay, okay.
And I took a picture with her.
Right.
I think I'm in their Twitter account of me and Nagano-san going like this.
Oh, great, great.
Yeah.
That was a...
What a memory.
Yeah, of course.
Yeah.
What a memory.
Was she kind?
Yeah, she was very kind.
Yeah.
She was...
I think she was very quiet.
Oh.
And she was very...
She was wearing slippers.
Okay.
She was wearing very fuzzy slippers.
Okay.
Like furry slippers.
And that was a really strong impression of me.
Okay.
She had this straight up like, isho.
Oh, yeah.
Really like on point isho.
Yeah.
But her feet was like really furry.
Okay.
Like huge, like Harajuku styled slippers.
Oh.
Yeah, so that was...
Oh.
But I guess it was because they didn't take the heat.
Yeah, maybe that's the actress thing.
Yeah, maybe.
Something like that.
But...
Right.
Yeah, she was very kind.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I'm sure you had a script.
Script and line.
Some lines.
Yeah.
Did you got the book beforehand?
Oh, no, no, no.
I just got the...
On the spot?
I just got the...
Oh, yeah, I did.
I just got the photo of the page where I was in.
12:03
Okay.
I didn't get the whole script.
Okay, okay.
So like you had your line beforehand.
I did have the line beforehand.
You had time to memorize all that.
I did, I did.
Do you have any tips of memorize those lines?
Yeah, of course, of course.
Then you're a professional actor.
Of course, of course.
Because I'm on national TV, right?
I'm on national TV, had a line.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Yeah, let me tell you.
Just try not to be nervous on stage.
Because the worst thing you could do is have your muscles be very like, sore and have this
facial expression where like...
Okay, that's the tip.
That's the tip right there.
Yeah.
Thank you.
That's really precious advice from the you know, professional.
Oh, yeah.
Oh, yeah.
Oh, yeah.
And make sure that you're in the role.
Yeah, you're in the role.
You have to really like, like let it, let it sink in, you know, just have the emotions
there, you know.
Yeah.
Okay.
You understand what I'm saying, man?
Okay.
That's important.
Okay.
The thing was, I was in the role as Kevin's English from Kevin.
Yeah.
So like, you know how I always, you know how we always like, "Kotowaru di anken" from Tsuji-san?
Like that was the same scenario.
Like, Nagano Mei-san was like, trying to like, do anken with Kevin's English from him.
I was like, "Oh, we're...
No, we can't."
Yeah.
So that was one easy like, natural thing like I always do with Tsuji-san.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
What an experience.
Yeah.
Yeah, what an experience and so many people, you know, watch the, you know, the TV and...
Right, right, right.
Yeah.
It must have been for many people a surprise for them.
I didn't really advertise it that much.
Oh, okay.
Okay.
It must have been a...
Quite surprising.
Yeah.
Oh my God, Kevin-san.
Yeah.
True.
Okay.
Right, right.
Thank you for those that gave me and our Instagram account the DM saying that you saw me.
Thank you.
Well, looking forward for the next drama.
Oh, yeah.
I mean, if there ever will be one.
Yeah.
I don't know.
I mean...
Maybe Shuen.
Yeah.
Shuen, yeah.
Yep, yep, yep.
Yep.
Getsu-kun.
Yep.
Or a movie.
Oh, I remember.
You know, a movie, Shuen.
Yeah.
Yeah, that's great.
Yeah.
The title is going to be like...
Aozora no...
Aozora no oto kimi no yoko de.
That's the title of the movie.
15:01
It's a high school...
Yeah, it's exactly.
Funny.
All right.
Waiting for that, you know.
Oh, yeah, yeah.
I'll give you like a free ticket to the movie.
Thank you.
All right?
Yeah.
Or even probably like a backstage pass or something like that.
Oh, great.
Thank you.
Yeah, of course.
Can I say hi to you?
No, yeah, of course.
I mean, only if, you know, only if I'm done with the script and the shooting and everything.
Yeah, please.
Because I have to...
You know, I can't really...
I can't talk to anybody when I'm...
Really concentrated.
Yeah, because I'm really in the role.
And I don't want to break the balance.
Ah, okay.
You know?
Like...
You know.
Yeah.
I'm sorry.
I understand that.
Yeah.
Respect that.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Yeah, of course.
Yeah.
All right.
All right.
Okay.
I think we're back.
I think we're back.
All right.
We got cut off.
I'm sorry, podcast.
Yeah.
Yeah.
If you look at the YouTube, you'll know what was going on.
Cut off.
Yeah.
But yeah, that was me up here on TV.
Oh, great.
All right.
Thank you, guys.
Thanks for listening guys, bye bye!
Bye.
